Who gives a crap. We're so hung up on the "I'm the better patriot than anyone else" stuff. Pffft.

Yeah true we let the likes of you slide all the time when you put down our government.

Our government is currently bloated, corrupt and our leaders are looking for good seats at the table of the New World Order. Our enemies laugh at us and our allies don't trust us. We face the embarrassment of Yemen and the rise of ISIS. Vietnam has become the short war as we languish in the Middle East. The Middle Class living paycheck to paycheck as our good jobs and Corporations line up to get out of here, the inner cities are basket cases with schools unfit to teach. 109,631,000 Americans lived in households that received benefits from one or more federally funded "means-tested programs" — also known as welfare — as of the fourth quarter of 2012, according to data released by the Census Bureau.
Liberals support this status quo.
I don't.

Not being in the military, we have the freedom to call our leaders corrupt and the freedom to protest against our government. That includes not standing for the NA in protest if we wish. I bet a few posters here protested this way during the Vietnam war growing up in the 60's. But whatever, it's mostly just another "we're a bigger patriot then you are stance so shut up and stand up for the NA or get out of my country"

So that being said you need to shut up about how this country is being led or get out of my country. naughtydevil

She deserves to be punished but I have no idea what the appropriate punishment is for this. I'm sure there is some kind of precedent in UCMJ... Kicking her out seems a bit harsh to me.

My biggest concern would be going forward, where her heart is. If called upon to actually defend, can she be counted upon to do her job.

That is where I would draw the distinction between Swish's examples of DUI and popping on a drug test.. those are bad but they don't cause me to call into question your ability or your willingness to do your job when called upon...

Problem is, she is currently serving and does not have the same rights civilians do to protest.

Would any of you applaud this if the reason she did this was in protest of the affordable care act, or some crazy concern over a birth certificate?

No.

And she wouldn't be required, as just a normal citizen, to do that anyway. If, as a military person attempting to protest Obama care, she'd still be wrong. (and I need to note this for the zealots out there, I've never said she should get a dishonorable discharge)

I haven't applauded Kap, nor have I attacked him either.

I've noticed 2 things though, since Kap got "caught" not standing. (and I word it that way because my understanding is he did it before)

A few others have taken that liberty, to not stand. BUT, the bigger thing I noticed is the number of people that are standing AND crossing their heart during the anthem.

And this ain't just in podunk Archbold. I really saw it last weekend, in Toledo. 8 team volleyball tournament. Had a rich catholic school (Newark Catholic), 2 small schools - Archbold and Holgate. D 1 Toledo Start, D 1 Springfield, Bellevue, D II bowling green, and some other school I can't think of now (from Toledo)

Black, white - all stood, and most crossed their heart during the anthem.

Just my observation.

So now you're extra patriotic if you stand for the national anthem?

No, we have conscientious objector laws if you are opposed to war.. but there is no such provision if you are opposed to other perceived social injustices. And those involve you either never joining or allowing you out of the military. You don't get to object and keep earning a paycheck.

If I openly protested my own companies policies, I would expect to be fired. I might NOT be, but I would expect to be... and that's what she is doing, she is saying she doesn't respect her employer.

I wonder how many sit on their asses at home when the anthem plays.

The anthem usually doesn't play when you're at home; you usually get a commercial or a view of two craptastic announcers talking about how your team has a chance.

That said - I have absolutely stood for the anthem in my living room. But, even if I didn't, I'm not doing so as a public statement of anything; it isn't a deliberate act of disrespect.

If you are making the point that sitting during the national anthem is no big deal.. then his protest is no big deal... so we should treat it as no big deal.. and we should all just stop talking about it.

Yeah, I'm real for real and you make me sick. You wear your chest out thumping about something like this like she killed your kid. She decided to stand for what she believes in.

I served in that Navy, I know what it takes and what it costs and I earned the right to have my opinion. So don't talk down to me 'Dude'... more like dud.

He had to take it beyond being reasonable arch and make it personal. That's what sent me off. I see both sides, but you don't ruin somebody's life for standing up for themselves, peacefully and nobody hurt.

I have zero clue what the crime and punishment is in a situation like this, so I won't speculate on it. However, does this take away her GI Bill rights?

You are not required to stand at all. It's not a law that you will, but a sign of respect. If they have it on TV for a game (any game), I do sit quietly and listen. If the singer does an exceptional job, I have gotten my wife and showed her a replay of the anthem. It's about respect for your country.

If you've ever noticed, the announcer always says, "Please stand for the national anthem", not, "You must stand".

Then why are people complaining if it isn't required?

I get the navy chick. It's required by UCMJ.

But overall, if people aren't gonna stand at home, don't cry when you see others not stand because of what they perceive as social injustice.

That wasn't aimed specifically at you, just a general response.

I thought you wanted people to complain. If nobody complains, if everybody takes your approach of "this is no big deal" then there is no conversation about WHY he is doing it. And the reason people are complaining, the reason this has become such a big deal is because of his stated reasons for NOT standing...

Remember the time Obama didn't put his hand over his heart for the NA and photos swirled around about how disrespectful that was? His stated reason for not doing it was that his grandfather had taught him that you put your hand over your heart for the pledge of allegiance, you keep your hands at your sides and sing for the NA... He had no protest motive for not doing it and the story quickly died...

So it's Kaeps motive that is at the heart of most of the anger you see..
