I bet the refs didn't want to question the female and open that can of worms Hell, question her. I don't care if it was a him. Duke is standing there with the ball, she's totally focused on the pile......and then motions washington ball................hell, she didn't know where the ball was. She didn't have a clue where the ball was!! It was in Duke's hand.

Definitely see a fumble by Duke then a recovery by Duke. The nfl.com video is longer. Still perplexing to me why Duke isn't disputing the fact that he had the ball and jumping up and down.
Did he pull a 2nd ball out of his hat or something??
If it's not Chaos, it's not Cleveland.

such a browns thing to happen
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

just like the official who called the pi NO ... The PI was a bad call .. That happens ... There HUMAN BEINGS .... She did not DO HER JOB CORRECTLY ..... On a fumble the FIRST THING THEY TEACH U at the HS level is to not do a thing UNTIL U IDENTIFY THE BALL ... She clearly did not do that .. She ran in giving the ball to the Skins and then started to clear the pile to FIND THE BALL .. SHE CHOKED ... That's a ROOKIE in HS mistake ... BIG DIFFERENCE BAD ...

Jesus Christ. Some of you sound like the most sexist group EVER. And I don't even care if I get a time out for it. OMG...a WOMAN ref can't possibly be worth a crap, right?!?! I mean, for real, male refs NEVER get calls wrong. EVER.

The ref stood there motioning "washington ball", when Duke was clearly standing there holding the ball. He or she doesn't matter.

In this exact example, however, I care about the ref being 100% wrong, and I don't care if the ref had been my dad. It was the wrong call, blatantly the wrong call.

Why didn't Duke protest? Something we ain't seeing. As clear as that looks, it's baffling. No one on the sidelines does anything. Maybe the Skins player had it when the ref looked, then Duke pulled it away. I don't know. But it sure looks like he gathers it and stands up.

And truthfully, if the announcers hadn't said she was a female during the game, I wouldn't have had a clue she was a "she".

U oughta know me better than that Michelle .. I know 2 NFL officials and a guy that works in the NBA offices ... The women hoops ref is HORRIBLE .. No one wants to work with her ... And the NFL official ... Both guys I know have told me POINT BLANK ... SHES IN WAY OVER HER HEAD ... Maybe u don't UNDERSTAND the difference between MISSING A CALL and NOT DOING YOUR JOB ... She did NOT DO HER JOB ... Like I said ... IN YOUR HS TRAINING they pound 2 things home your first year ... HOLD YOUR WHISTLE and KNOW WHERE THE BALL IS ... But hey .. It's America in the year 2016 ... TRUTH takes a BACK SEAT to PC ... If u want to know who the PC ref is .. Just ask ... I KNOW .. And I know this because NO ONE WANTS TO BE ON HIS CREW ... And he had a SB .. Would it be OK with u if I included him ... Tell Jules I said Hi ..

Remember, you see players come out of the pile with the ball all the time who didn't recover the ball.
I agree with your earlier assessment.....Duke would have been more fired up had he really recovered the ball. If not, maybe he should be cut?

I really haven't watched the play because what's the point? Will the outcome of the game change? But, I was wondering if Duke got the ball back AFTER the whistle blew. If so, what's the big deal?

Actually, the play wasn't over and Duke had the ball when they blew the whistle.
It doesn't really matter. Yes, the NFL blew this call, but the Browns should have been up well before this. Browns need to play better. If the other agent Johnson didn't fumble at the 9 and they score a touchdown this is probably a moot play or never happens and the Browns win.
Browns need to learn how to win, plain and simple. The NFL blows a lot of calls. This is just another on a long list.

Yep, just like they blew the holding call on Washington's tackle during a long run.
Crying about calls is pretty lame.

Fumble Ruling This was the reasoning...I NFL says Duke Johnson fumble ruled correctly, “nothing definitive” to overturn
Posted by Zac Jackson on October 2, 2016, 6:33 PM EDT Cleveland Browns running back Duke Johnson (29) is tackled by Washington Redskins defensive back Su'a Cravens (36) during the first half of an NFL football game, Sunday, Oct. 2, 2016, in Landover, Md. (AP Photo/Carolyn Kaster) The Browns thought that running back Duke Johnson had recovered his own fumble with a little under 10 minutes left at midfield, but the officials ruled that Redskins linebacker Will Compton recovered it.
The ruling that Compton recovered survived a replay review. Several Browns players and coach Hue Jackson protested, but the NFL said after the game “with nothing definitive shown” on several replay angles, there was no evidence to overturn the call.
After taking a 20-17 lead, the Browns turned the ball over on their next three possessions.
The Redskins went three and out and punted after Compton’s recovery, but Josh Norman then intercepted Cody Kessler to set up the Matt Jones touchdown run that provided the final points in a 31-20 win.

I look at it this way:
--If Hue gives the ball to Crow, the fumble probably does not happen.
--If Duke doesn't fumble, there is nothing to dispute.
--The Browns did not lose the game because of that call. They stopped Washington in three plays and then committed another turnover.
Crying solves nothing.

CYA. NFL does it. Proof.
With a scrum going on for the ball, And Duke being about the 2nd person off the pile, holding the ball, and the ref still looking at the pile of players, ignoring where the ball is.............yup, CYA.
Nah, the ref had no idea what was going on.
How can you signal that the redskins had the ball when Duke was standing up with the ..........get this.........the freaking ball.
Ref called washington with the ball, when the ball was in Duke's hand.

TRUTH takes a BACK SEAT to PC ... Truth seems to take a back seat to feelings. Your feelings seem to trump the fact that gender play no factor here. Could you provide factual data, preferably from a peer-reviewed scientific study, that shows how gender plays into the decision making on rules in a sporting event? Truthfully, I don't think you'll do any of this. You'll probably argue how you know people that know people, and how that matters more than any factual scientific data.

Crying solves nothing. Agreed. back to back games of of 'almost'...to win we have going to have to be near flawless both in execution and play calling..still a few head scratcher calls today.. A decent amount of ifs for sure... 3-0-11-3...that is the amount of second half points in each of the first 4 games...for whatever reason, we cannot score 2nd half points...

Damn good point and Rish kinda addressed it in the Post Game Thoughts thread. You guys got me to think about the why:I think Hue is doing an outstanding job of game planning going into the game. He is compensating for his overall lack of talent on offense. However, once teams see what we are doing, they can adjust at halftime and take away our nuances. I think Hue is doing what he can do. I don't agree w/all his play calls and I certainly would give Crow the ball more, but dang, the guy is up against it. Give Hue time!!!!
