Mitch Trubisky is better than Kizer and nobody talks about him in the media.

But is he worth 1/1? That's all I really care about.

Trubisky had a hell of a day. Hes a more polished Kizer. He might be the best QB in the draft.

Sure as hell is not Watson, though

you had a good run Hank.

I understand a few people, namely a QB or two, will get hyped up this offseason..

But is there really any other option than Garrett?

He would transtorm this defense over night.

Ugh. We're totally not ganna end up with him..

He's gotta be bound for Texas or LSU, especially now that Houston is gonna be "cheap" and Houston isn't gonna go to the Big 12

What's up w/the Big 12? They talk about expanding and get all these schools spending money to try and join their conference, and then just say "Never mind."

What a dumb-ass conference.

No one wants to compete with Houston for recruits in that conference. Texas and Houston is too much of a hot bed for talent. The Big 12 didn't want Houston to siphon all their talent.

based on what I've gathered, the big 12 has a TV contract with ESPN/ABC/FOX ... those companies REALLY didn't want teams like Cincy/Memphis/Colorado St, or whoever, to join ... so the networks shelled out money for that NOT to happen.

I may be incorrect

So what I'm getting, is that the major Big 12 schools would rather have more money, than working towards a better chance at making the playoffs?

You add two teams, regardless of who they are, add a Cinf title game, and you're right back in the mix if one of your teams goes undefeated or only has one loss..

But now, a 1 loss Big 12 champ is meh. And that's not even based on the fact that the Big 12 sucks..

I heard something to the effect that if the Big 12 added schools to get to where they could have a playoff, their TV deals had automatic escalators in them where they got paid for the new schools and each original school got an additional $25 million a year (or something like that)... adding a couple schools increased their TV deal by more than $800 million... so yea, I could see where the networks were fighting against it... especially if the TV market was small like Memphis...

Yeah, UConn was also in that group.

(hoping to get into Big 12 - so as to be in a Power 5 Conference)

I guess it would have meant a lot of potential revenue for the school. The Big 12 rejection made front page news here.

My guess is that, if there is no giant blowup, Texas will be in the Pac-12. Oklahoma to the SEC.

If there is a huge blow up, I can see us going after Kansas for basketball if we can't get those 2.

Good. I don't want Oklahoma or Texas. They're garb and far away. There's a midwestern type and quite frankly, we can't dilute the pool anymore. At least the New Englanders are intelligent. We must go after Kansas though. They can keep the rest. No reason to put another B1G team in Iowa.

Houston discussing 'reasonable' extension parameters for Tom Herman
play

Ryan Clark and Mike Golic share their thoughts on the Big 12's decision to stop pursuing expanding the conference and how this affects Tom Herman's future as the coach of Houston. (1:43)

University of Houston officials have had "very general conversations" about a contract extension for Cougars football coach Tom Herman, but athletic director Hunter Yurachek said Tuesday that the school's offer would have "to be reasonable."

Herman, the former Ohio State offensive coordinator who is in his second season with the Cougars, agreed to an extension last December that more than doubled his salary to $3 million annually, including incentive escalators, through the 2020 season.

He has guided Houston to a 19-2 record while winning the American Athletic Conference title and beating Florida State in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl, fueling speculation that Herman would leave after the season for a job in a Power 5 conference.

Herman has a $2.5 million buyout clause in his contract if he opts to leave before Feb. 28, 2017.

"We have what I consider to be one of the hottest coaching commodities in all of college football," Yurachek said Tuesday, according to the Houston Chronicle. "It's my job to continue to do due diligence and work with [president Renu] Khator and [board of regents] chairman Tilman Fertitta and put together parameters for what potentially could be a new contract offer for coach Herman as we look toward the future and retaining him as head coach."
Tom Herman, who has a 19-2 record at Houston, is a hot commodity among the coaching ranks, however UH athletic director Hunter Yurachek said the school is "committed to making it very hard for him to leave." AP Photo/Darren Abate

Yurachek said talks have only been at the administrative level and nothing has been discussed as of yet with Herman or his representatives.

"We're committed to making it very hard for him to leave here at this point," Yurachek told SB Nation 1560 AM on Tuesday. "Somebody is going to have to come and really take him and offer him something really phenomenal, because we are going to make it really hard for him to say no to the University of Houston."

Houston was a candidate for Big 12 expansion. However, the conference on Monday decided not to go that route and said it would stand pat with 10 teams.

Yurachek confirmed in September that Herman would receive a $5 million bonus if Houston were to join a Power 5 conference under his watch.

the question will be, how much will LSU/Texas/ND or whoever, offer Herman

Kaaya has some nice throws, but still not that high on him overall.

VT has a few nice looking players. I'll have to look into the Edmunds brothers some more. Bucky Hodges is looking good, too. Was he hurt last year? Or has he dropped weight since moving to WR from TE? He looks a lot more effective than I remember him playing against the Buckeyes.

Good tools, but pretty raw and inconsistent at this point. Fuentes has done a good job of working with his strengths and Hodges and Ford are catching everything right now.

Prescott is probably the comp, but he's not as far along in his development.

Thanks

A couple weeks ago I heard Kiper mention his name on the radio. Didn't say much else. The only game that I got to see him in has been the game they played in the hurricane.

Cam has done an okay job when one on one. Not dominating Garrett but keeping in check. Bama is double teaming him a good bit.
