Erving's blocking has been much better, it's his brain farts that are game killers. Some interesting takes on Erving, "now".
I pointed out the fact that Erving had only played 4 or 5 games as a center in college...and that alone did not make him a center.
...he is not a center! What's your address? We will send you a cookie. Lots of people didn't care for that pick...or many others for that matter. I'll pick up a giant box of cookies just in case. He's likely another wasted pick from the past that we need to move on from. I read regularly that his best position may be G...which is somewhat horrifying to my eye. I can't imagine he'd get to the point of pushing Bitonio or Greco...or even Paztor/Bailey/Drango for that matter. I'm stunned that he wasn't put on IR with that injury. The line play has been noticeably better since he's been out.

I still think Erving can be a very good Center. I've liked what I've seen from him in terms of growth but he has made some bad decisions, no doubt. I'm not saying he's the next Alex Mack or anything, but I'm willing to let him play more at Center.

rowns elevate OL Anthony Fabiano to active roster
BEREA, Ohio -- The Cleveland Browns have signed OL Anthony Fabiano to their active roster from the practice squad. To make room on the roster, the team waived DL Gabe Wright.
In addition, the team signed TE E.J. Bibbs and OL Michael Liedtke (pronounced LID-kee) to the practice squad.
Fabiano is a 6-3, 303 pound rookie out of Harvard. Originally signed by Baltimore as an undrafted free agent, he was waived on Aug. 29 and has spent the first four weeks of the season the Browns’ practice squad. A native of Wakefield, Mass., Fabiano graduated from Wakefield High School.
Bibbs is 6-2, 258 pounds and in his second NFL season out of Iowa State. Originally signed by the Browns as an undrafted free agent in 2015, he appeared in seven games last season and had one reception for seven yards. He was waived this year on Aug. 29. A native of Chicago, Ill., Bibbs graduated from Bogan High School.
Liedtke is 6-3, 305 pounds and officially in his first NFL season out of Illinois State. Originally signed by Miami as an undrafted free agent in 2015, he spent part of his rookie season on the Dolphins’ practice squad and the 2016 preseason with the Jets. A native of Woodstock, Ill., Liedtke graduated from Woodstock High School.
Wright spent the first two weeks of the season on the club’s practice squad and appeared in the past two games. He logged one tackle and one pass defensed.
Waive Gabe Wright ... he looked good haha

Welcome back EJ Bibbs!
I think Erving needs more playing time to help him. I agree though, he's not been productive.

I thought Wright has looked pretty good in limited action. Two PS signings doesn't leave room to put Wright back on it unless someone else gets the axe.

I'm not saying he's the next Alex Mack or anything, but I'm willing to let him play more at Center. I don't buy that. The guy is a wuss. He might be big and strong, but he isn't a fighter. He has to understand that he is playing to eat, and others are trying to take his food. I am convinced that there are a bunch of 145 lb boxers who could kick his ass from here to next week. His size alone should preclude that, but the guy is a wuss. He closes his eyes before contact. That is why he whiffs block after block. If you can't keep your eyes open to see what is happening to afford a counter punch, you "ain't" going to make it....

I think the PS should have much more space. Paying a guy to practice, that can be signed to the 53 by any team at any time, has zero negative effect on the game.

However, it does affect the money .... from an ownership aspect, and it affects the amount of money the players who actually play receive.

The Panthers have signed cornerback Zack Sanchez from the practice squad and released cornerback Bene' Benwikere less than a week after giving up 300 yards receiving to Atlanta's Julio Jones, according to a league source.
Benwikere is still younger with some experience. Not a ringing endorsement after last week, but he'll get a chance somewhere

Yeah, but it beats working for a living. I think that's a bit harsh as a general statement. But it's true in some instances.

Patriots cut Jonathan Cooper Posted by Michael David Smith on October 8, 2016, 1:23 PM In a surprise Saturday roster move, the Patriots have released the player they acquired in this year’s Chandler Jones trade. New England cut guard Jonathan Cooper today, Field Yates of ESPN reports. The seventh overall pick in the 2013 NFL draft, Cooper was viewed as one of the best guard prospects ever to enter the draft. But he never panned out in Arizona and has now washed out in New England as well. Cooper never got on the field in the Patriots’ first four games this season. Cooper will still have opportunities to catch on elsewhere, but he’s been a major disappointment in the three and a half years since he was drafted. Although Cooper was the player the Patriots received in the Jones trade, the primary reason they made the trade was to acquire the Cardinals’ second-round draft pick, which they then traded to draft two players, guard Joe Thuney and wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell. PFT ------------------------------------------------------- Probably not a good fit for us but he is interesting.

We have the culture that Cooper needs. As great as the Patriots are, they don't just put together lines like we do and neither does Arizona. You can learn a lot from watching Joe, Joel and John work all day. Those men are true professionals. You can see by how the young guys like Joel and Spencer have bought in.

That was my first thought as well.
I mean if you're a dominant guard in college, it seems like that would translate to the pros.
Unless maybe you don't like football.
LOL - The Rish will be upset with this news as well. KS just doesn't prioritize winning...

Think he's had foot/lower extremity injuries. Pretty important for people who have to push/plant on every play.

he is more of a zone finesse guard also that really cuts your chances of sticking with a team.

Most likely he's a bust (for whatever reason) ... but you never know I guess.
A guy like Peae (SP?) has thrived thus far for us after being cut

Cleveland makes multiple roster moves amid injuries
The Cleveland Browns have signed QB Kevin Hogan and DL Gabe Wright to the active roster from the practice squad. To make room on the roster, the team terminated the contract of QB Charlie Whitehurst with an injury settlement. In addition, the team signed WR Mitch Mathews to the practice squad.
Hogan is a 6-3, 218 pound rookie out of Stanford. He was originally selected by Kansas City in the fifth round of the draft. He has spent the first five weeks of the season on the Browns’ practice squad. In college, Hogan completed 727 of 1,103 passes for 9,385 yards, 75 touchdowns and 29 interceptions. He also rushed for 1,249 yards and 15 touchdowns. A native of McLean, Va., Hogan graduated from Gonzaga College High School. Wright is 6-2, 284-pounds and officially in his second NFL season out of Auburn. Originally selected by Detroit in the fourth round of the 2015 draft, he has appeared in nine career games. Wright has appeared in two games with the Browns this season and spent three weeks on the club’s practice squad. A native of Columbus, Ga., Wright graduated from Carver High School.
Whitehurst made his Browns debut as a reserve last week. He completed 14 of 24 passes for 182 yards and one touchdown. He injured his knee in the fourth quarter.
Mathews is a 6-5, 220-pound rookie season out of Brigham Young. Originally signed by Kansas City as an undrafted free agent, he was waived on Aug. 30. In 41 games at BYU, Mathews registered 152 receptions for 2,083 yards and 24 touchdowns. A native of Beaverton, Ore., he graduated from Southridge High School.

whitehurst plays, gets injured, loses, then gets cut (but also gets paid) He could still be sitting at home. Least he came in, got some play time for other teams that may need a stop gap at the position and got paid. No harm, no foul here.
