Boston

Pittsburgh won the super bowl in January of 1979 and the World Series in the fall of 1979..

Good luck to you living in the windy city.

If the Cubs get in that will be the story line throughout the series while the Indians get ignored or treated like an afterthought.

I'm not worried about how early we clinched the Pennant, those stats are kept so they can one day be broken and I'll be rooting for just that.

No one ever came back from 3-1 down in the NBA Finals before this year either.

I think they had already sold out at that point and that's why it wasn't loading. I was on there trying to buy more tickets and had the same thing happen. Or, I'd click to select the section and it'd crash.

I am selling my tickets to game 1 and 2 though because I'll be out of town for work. Keeping my tickets to game 6 (should it happen).

Has anyone else noticed that Indians pitcher Bryan Shaw looks like Indians pitcher “Shoup” from the movie Major League II?

Shoup was played by Kevin Hickey who had been an actual pitcher for the Orioles.

Anyone see the movement going around trying to get The Indians to bring in Charlie sheen as Vaughn to throw first pitch, looks like sheen is down for it. That would. E about the best possible way to open the series I think

Would probably be Lebron any other night.

I don't think they'll let Charlie do it. I do hope they pick someone cool that will really fire the crowd up.

Tom Hanks would be cool.

But the Cubs are the best story. Bigger city, more well-known franchise, 100-win team, classic stadium, a billy goat curse, Bartman, more household names, 108 years without winning, 70-something years without being in a WS.

While we have a 68 year drought, we were in two WS since 1995 and our town just won an NBA title.

The Cubs ARE the story, if they make it. With that being said, the pressure on them would be a lot higher (media, city, and fans). I wouldn't mind being the less talked about underdog again.

The movie Major League came out before those mid-90s Indians' teams.

Before the mid-90s, the last Indians' team to win the American League was 2 years before I was born. (1954).

Major League was a real tear-jerker for diehard Indians' fans my age.

I went from age 0-to-40 without the Indians winning the AL.

Anyway, I'd love to see Charlie Sheen throw the first pitch.

Oh you mean the teams that couldn't get the job done, no thanks. Keep that bad juju away. Having the wild thing theme blasting and having him walk in from the BP would make that place explode. Only that would make it better would be having Lou on the mic saying give em the heater Ricky. I think it should be something fun

Rocky Colavito - back in the day, he was as big as Jimmy Brown here in C-town, maybe bigger. He arguably saved baseball here in Cleveland when he got traded back in 1965. At that time the current owner (Vernon Stouffer?) was flirting with New Orleans and Tampa about possibly moving the franchise.

It's still going to be incredibly annoying.

But it's clear this team loves being ignored and counted out. I love the quote from John Smoltz saying he's never seen a team in sports have a chip on their shoulder like the Tribe does.

That would be something if they could get Lebron to run over and throw out the 1st pitch. I am not really crazy about many of the other options. How about, maybe, Omar Vizquel or Kenny Lofton? Maybe Andre Thornton? How about Buddy Bell? Luis Tiant? Julio Franco? He might still be playing somewhere though. lol Tom Candiotti? Maybe Mark Price? Bernie? Tim Couch? rofl How about Joe Thomas? I think that would be great.

With 'Wild Thing' not an option, who do Cleveland Indians fans think should get a World Series first pitch? | cleveland.com

CLEVELAND, Ohio — As the Cleveland Indians advanced to the World Series on Thursday, fans began to sound off on the names of celebrities they would like to see throw out the first pitch at Tribe home games during the Fall Classic.

One thing we know for certain: Rick Vaughn isn't walking through that door any time soon.

A Cleveland Indians official said bluntly on Thursday that the team is not entertaining the notion of bringing Charlie Sheen in to throw the first pitch for a World Series home game and reprise the role of the ex-con Vaughn who helped the team to the pennant in the 1989 film Major League.

But the official did say anything is possible, as Major League Baseball is in charge of setting celebrity appearances at World Series games. Though the official confirmed that the team has lined up a host of Indians alumni who are ready to throw a first pitch.

However, the question remains for Tribe fans: who would they most like to see throw out the first pitch at Progressive Field as the Indians host games 1 and 2 of the World Series?

Some options:

Jose Mesa - The team could exorcise the demons of 1997 by bringing Mesa in to toss the first pitch to former battery mate Sandy Alomar Jr.

LeBron James - The Finals MVP could sprint across Gateway Plaza in his Cavs uniform to toss the first pitch before heading back to get his championship ring at The Q.

Barack Obama - A notorious White Sox fan, the President might be more inclined to throw a first pitch at Game 3 if, say, it was at Wrigley Field.

Ernest Byner - The ex-Browns running back authored The Fumble in 1988, but the city embraced him during the Cavaliers championship parade in June.

Jim Thome - The franchise leader in home runs and 2016 Indians hall of fame inductee is about as good a candidate as you're going to find out there.

Drew Carey - If you're looking for a guy with glasses to do the deed. Carey is a more likely candidate than Sheen.

Tell us what you think. Vote in the poll below and then back up your answer in the comment section.

I don't remember his name, but the guy that has been beating the drum in the bleachers since the 70's -- he should get to throw out the first pitch.

John Adams. But no, he's not the one to throw out the 1st pitch. There are season tickets holders who have been going longer.

That would draw a big yawn from the crowd.

One of the games I attended in June or July had a lady in her 80's playing the Key Bank Deal or No Deal game or recalled attending the 48' World Seroes with her father and has been coming to games ever since.

Well, we should have the previous champions "pass the torch" to the hopefully future champions ... But since most of those guys will be playing next door at the same time, the solution is obvious: Have Delly throw the first pitch. grin

The Indians biggest enemy going into this World Series is “rust”. “Rust” of the batters.

Good Major League batting requires players to be sharp. To have ultimate reaction to the pitches.

It’s one of the main reasons why MLB has a month of Spring Training. It’s why we hear every year that “The pitchers are ahead of the hitters”.

Going into the first game on Tuesday, the Tribe offense will have not faced major league competitive pitching in almost a week. Their longest layoff since March.

The Tribe’s opponent will not face this obstacle. Their batters will be ready.

Keep in mind that “rust” could impact a single batter’s swing on a single pitch at a crucial moment.

This is disconcerting. I wonder if and how Francona is dealing with it.

I’m so frightened.

Drew Carey, that was a disaster, Browns opener in 1999 remember , we got crushed by Pitt and never recovered, keep him at Price is Right or wherever he is.
