If we don't calm down on the politics we are not going to have a country .. You look at the electoral map and the East and West Coasts are mainly Blue and the WHOLE MIDDLE is RED!!
NM and Colorado where the only Blue to stand out .

We even have division with-in States .. Northern Colorado has been talking cessation from down State for some time now..

Better start talking about things that bind us , not separate ..

Except that the majority vote doesn't count for anything, so you can't put too much value into it.

People in say, California, know that Hillary is pretty much going to win the state no matter what. So there's no real incentive to show up and vote Trump because the vote wouldn't matter anyway. I say California, cause it's a huge state with a lot of potential "popular count" votes that could swing a Popular election count easily into Trump's favor, but the same applies to other states as well that are in the extreme Red or Blue zones.

But the point is, our elections aren't run that way! I'm getting tired of all the people crying on Facebook that we need to do away with the Electoral college system because the election didn't turn out in their favor and their candidate would of won if we suddenly played by different rules.

It's like saying in the 9th inning of the World Series that instead of giving the trophy to the team that wins the best out of 7, it should go to the team that had the most runs after 7 games ... because the Indians would of won! I'm sorry it doesn't work that way. And if those were the rules going in, then the games would of been played completely different. Teams would try to run up the score in any game, regardless if they were winning the game or not.

The same goes for the election. Campaigns and voting would be completely different if they knew it was the overall vote that counted. The founding fathers set up the election the way it is specifically to avoid that.

Maybe we should in the future refer to the Simpsons for our prognostications and polling.

so my vote and yours didn't matter? why the hell did we even bother LOL.

Get all those electoral people in a big convention hall, let the candidates stand there and answer questions and then choose one.

Simple LOL

I can't think of another situation where a vote takes place and the winner didn't have the most votes.

So is it accurate to say that your individual vote on truly matters in your state?

Your vote counts ... but towards your own state's electoral votes. The process has always been about your states voting for the President, not the general populace. That's how the founding fathers wanted it.

Our government tries to do this all the time. The simple majority won't get you a lot in American politics and for good reason, we must protect the minority from the majority.

My hypothesis. I see a demographic/geographic shift in the country that is causing the electoral college to be less and less appropriate. While Ohio has a huge number of electoral college votes the state is losing many of its college educated liberal residents. I got tired of living in a state that didn't represent my interests. So I like many of my buddies, graduated from college and got the hell out of Ohio. All of us going to already more liberal places, California, Oregon, Colorado, Washington. Oregon and Washington gains more liberal, educated citizens but only hold a fraction of Ohio's electoral college votes. Ohio in turn becomes more conservative by their loss.
This shift is taking place. Look at where the blue is on the election maps. Major cities and the coasts. We liberals are abandoning the rust belt, and the Bible belt.
Thoughts?

The young and Liberal are not abandoning the rust belt because of some silly set of lofty ideals, they leave because of a lack of good paying jobs.

Which is odd because these states have prized the free market above everything else, but still have no jobs.

That certainly comes into play. Though I was gainfully employed in Ohio. Cost of living was cheaper. My family is all there. Yet, I moved. So yes. Many of us do move because of ideals.

To add. If there are no jobs why aren't the non liberal moving too?

An ideology difference I can see being a cause of a demographic change is the concept of settling down and raising a family. It seems the millennial generation isn't concerned with having a family at a young age if at all. So why would they live in a rural rust belt area and not a more urban-active environment?

So now we have gone from you saying, "We liberals are abandoning the rust belt, and the Bible belt" to "Yet, I moved. So yes, many of us do move because of ideals."

Up and down the emotional scale with your positions and posts.

Are you abandoning or are some of you moving out?

Read what he said again. One is a highly emotional Abandoning of the rust belt while the other statement is a much more subdued I left, so did some of my pals so others left too.

On another note ......

Trump and Obama were supposed to meet for a couple of minutes, then come address the media. I think that was supposed to be almost an hour ago. I wonder what they are discussing all this time? I wonder if they make the Cavaliers wait? lol

CHS lives in LA, he'd be more of an expert than me.

Also, there's too many threads going on right now talking about the same things. It'd be nice if mods cleaned that up instead of focusing on individual posts to secretly delete.

The meeting has ended, both Trump and the Prez seemed to enjoy each others company. They discussed many issues which went well with a few apparent disagreements. They shook hands and said they looked forward to meeting again.
Trump said they were supposed to spend minutes together but it turned into an hour and a half. Trump said as far as he is concerned, he could have spent the entire day discussing issues with the President.

So far, the passing of power seems to be running smoothly.

They are moving. I don't dispute why you moved from Ohio, but I know a ton of people who have moved from Ohio and it's almost always due to the economic situation and the weather.

I made a couple of lists on another thread as to why I thought Clinton and the Democrats lost and I don't want to be too repetitive, but their ideals have lost hard-working, middle class America.

And this notion that the media and even her campaign put out there that those who don't live in cities are ignorant blew up in their face.

There are plenty of people who aren't musicians, artists, celebs, professional athletes, high-priced attorneys, etc who are intelligent and morally sound. We are nurses, doctors, teachers, engineers, electricians, carpenters, plumbers, accountants, etc and just because we choose to not live in the city does not make us ignorant or inconsequential.

We are tired of footing the bill and being ridiculed and blamed for the problems of every group. We are tired of being told our daughters have to shower w/males. We are tired to have our religious beliefs mocked. We support cops over criminals. We support working for something rather than extending our hands. We are tired of hearing about free health care, free college tuition because we know that once again..........we will have to foot the bill. We are tired of good jobs evaporating and large companies abandoning the country. We are tired of how both the very rich and the very poor exploit us.

No, we are not ignorant. We are not evil. We are just sick and tired of being abused.
