I loathe Kelly Holcomb...no one ever points out his best games came against pitiful secondaries.

so its OK to annoint Joe but not BQ??? *LOL* .. OK then .. I don't believe I've ever said that. I assume that since you have this "vision" with football players that it translates over to everyday life as well. Can you buy me some Lotto tickets?

"Pittsburgh was a terrible secondary???"
Actually at the time it was...Steelers was an attack D who gave up the big play if their attacks weren't successful (blitzes) mainly cause their Secondary was their achilles heel. They solved that somewhat and - well got the Lombardi. But we exposed their weakness pretty bad.
JMHO - Oh and Vers I'm right all the time without any inside info...lol

Wow...........a lot of BS floating around on this thread. Mensa: Actually, the media supported Timid, and many fans did too. The reason the switch was made was because Holcomb outplayed the Timid one at every opportunity and the players were ready to revolt if Butch didn't name him the starter. You can take that one to the bank. Diam: I see you are in full attack mode. Whatever. When you grow up and can talk about BQ w/out getting the sniffles, we can have some fun again. Gotta love that comment to Pete that you made. Just how is it that Anderson played better than Charlie? Oh.........you just want to be an ass. Quote:
Sorry but just like with SMELLY, Luke and Spurge he will be a BELOW AVG. starting QB no matter the talent around him .... just like smelly he will be a GREAT BACK UP .... thats his upside ...
we should call this guy Smelly Jr. ... HORRIBLE STARTER, GREAT BACK UP ..
Let's just hope that we don't start calling BQ, Timid Junior. LOL........and then the excuse machine will be headed by you and it will never have run faster or more often.
Quote:
I could care less what Ver's and Tabbers and Toads WORRIES ARE .. there based on a LACK OF KNOWLEDGE due to a LACK OF INFORMATION .. they'll see ... just like U ...
Where have any of us ever said he sucked? What's your freaking beef? Dude, I thought it was funny for awhile when people were saying the "man crush" you had for Quinn, but man........you really do have one.
The kid slipped to # 22. Many GMs had questions about him. Many guys who evaluate QBs had some concerns, but you ignore all that and keep bringing up the Weis endorsement. If BQ was as good as you or Weis say.......he would have went first overall.
Now........I still think the kid has the potential to be very good. I ain't saying he will bust, but Jesus man.........you are making it hard to stomach.

Theres a difference between dumping a QB and throwing a hissy fit any time someone says something negative about him.
Last year makes it impossible to judge Frye just because of the mess that the Browns were... There were however some things that Frye did horrible. His field vision looked poor to me, as there were plenty of times where the play would break down and someone would be standing wide open and he would force the ball into triple coverage... Then there were times where he would put the ball spot on and you would think he was great again... Then he would follow it up by running away from pressure and just dropping the ball, then that would be followed off by a dropped pass that would get intercepted...
There was no way you could blame Frye for everything that happened, there were however some things he did mess up on that you can blame him for, I'll be shocked if he doesn't start week one, and when he does, the only chants of a QB you will hear me yelling is "Charlie Charlie Charlie"
The name on the jersey matters less than the jersey itself.

I think that's the way most of us are, during the game itself....
Problem is, after the Browns lose a game, in which a poster's preferred QB doesn't start or play, usually, all hell breaks lose on the board... Ask anyone who was around for the Couch/Holcomb Brouhaha....
Last year, Frye fans, didn't like Charlie being criticized. Anderson didn't play enough, with an uninjured Frye as backup, to really start up a much of a controversy on the board, but a lot of people thought Anderson showed enough to be given the chance to compete for the job. Now we add Quinn into the mix..... and yes, Quinn has supporters, even though he has yet to play a down in the NFL....
This year is going to be a long year... I suspect the Browns will finish anywhere from 5 - 11 to 8 - 8.... With 3 of our first 4 games being within our own division, a division in which we are the weakest team... Well, welcome to the 2007 Cleveland Browns QB Controversy....

Hey Pete .... I'm just curious ... when DA played his 2 or 3 games ... did the OL block better and the running game produce more and the WR's all of a sudden start running the right routes??? *LOL* ...
Actually he played 4 games and he sucked...just like the team sucked. Imagine that.
Lots of folks seem to have this vivid memory of DA just lighting up other teams like Johnny U.....is that what you recall???????
And don't give me this "I'll go back and look at the tapes".....don't bother. I remember he sucked...

I think it's Kelly Holcomb.....I'd have to get out my translating sheet to make sure....
Let's see----
PP was James Jackson.... David David David was the next bestest receiver to come out in history...
Hmmm, what were the others?? Nothing like a trip down memory lane, eh?

You can't forget "Toast" Fuller. The nicknames make me laugh. But......I know what Diam is up to. Hell, it might even be fun to archive his posts this year and compare the reasons/excuses he gives for the play of our QB. Of course, it only will be interesting if both Charlie and BQ both play this year. Guaranteed it will be like the the two quarterbacks had completely separate supporting casts.

Well, let's see,, some nicknames were; David David David, but I thought that was about David Modell Leon = Braylon Edwards PP = James Jackson (I think that stood for powder puff, I'd like to see the guy that coined that nickname stand up to Jackson and call him a PP, now that would be fun to watch ) Timid = Tim Couch Bam Bam = can't remember the guys name but he was a Center during the late 80's.. I think it was Mike Baab) But Smelly rings NO bells to me.. Thus the reason I rail against calling anybody anything other than thier real names,,, at least until someone comes up with the definitive guide to nicknames for Browns Players anyway

Me too. BUT I think he surprised alot of people because the overall performance wasnt much different than when our "starter" was in. Thats where it started and we all know what can come of such a thing.
Quote:
make no mistake about it .. HES THE FUTURE .. and when it arrives .. all the QB Crap is gonna stop ... CAUSE WE'LL FINALLY HAVE ONE
I hope and pray. For us to even be lamenting on who should be the starter between DA and CF is utterly sad to begin with. I think we all agree that the best guy should start, but when you look at what we are working with it is easy to see why we have such awful success with the QB position and on the field in general. Try talking to the fans of other nfl teams and explain how it is a good thing that we are going to have to let Derek Anderson & Charlie Frye battle it out for the starting QB spot. Brady's day cant get here soon enough for any of us. In the end it may be a godsend that we are dealing with this Anderson and Frye "dilemma" this season.

They picked Quinn because they felt he could/would be the franchise QB for the next 10+ years. I hope they are right about that.. It would be wonderful if we wouldn't have this topic to beat to death year in and year out.
But, when it comes down to it, do any of you really care who the QB is? What I mean is, if whoever is out there is doing the job and the team is winning, do you really care what name is on the back of the jersey... would you really care if it said Frye, Quinn or Anderson or Dorsey for that matter?
I would not! I have NO man crush on any of these guys. Been down that road and been burned before. Don't want it to happen again... All I want is the best fit out there.. The name on the back of the jersey means NOTHING!
Man, I'm just tired of the Browns being a doormat!

No and dont care at all. I just think that Anderson and Frye are below average quarterbacks. The fact thats who we are picking a starter from, sucks.
I look forward to the day Quinn gets his chance because he is the best QB talent we have had in cleveland since the return in 99. What happens once he is the starter nobody knows, but I think I have seen enough of Anderson and Frye to know that even with an improved O-line and running game, we can only hope for them to be efficient game managing QB's. Niether one of them makes me think that they can be "special".
BQ at least still is an unknown quanitity.

i'm confident that Romeo will start the one that will give us the best chance to win. We'll see lots of struggles as the O learns the chud playbook. My opionion is that the O will show some flashes this year, but have a really hard time as all the players get the timing down. Next year is when we'll see the O do better. Romeo knows what he has in chuck & anderson. Quinn is most likely going to have to earn his spot. Here's to the best guy starting, whomever it is
We're trying to throw the ball downfield and he checked the ball down to Trent Richardson and the Indians on the choice.

I don't think anyone on the board cares who plays QB... AS LONG AS WE WIN. QB controversies come from lack of victories.... We are arguing over Frye, Anderson and Quinn, because we haven't been winning.
I know, Denver changed QBs when they had a winning record, then missed the playoffs. Denver thought they had the pieces in place to win with Cutler, then move to the future... They probably will this year. With a rookie QB, there are growing pains, as Browns fans are already well aware.....
The losses last year were not ALL Frye's or Anderson's fault, but as the most visable player on a losing team, they get the grief.... There were more problems with the Browns TEAM than QB... If the TEAM WINS, we won't need a new QB.... That's why I advocated fixing other problems in the draft, then draft a new QB next year, if needed, a la Denver...
The question is, which comes first, the QB or the Wins??? Kinda like.... which came first, the chicken or the egg???

Is a bettor OL going to make his arm stronger like it did for Smelly??? is better WR play going to make him al of a sudden more accurate like it did Wynn?? is a better running game coing to make him capable of better decisions just like with McCown?? sorry bro ... just cause u can't see it dont mean i can't ... and DA played BETTER against Balt and Pitt than Frye did against almost any one ... and those were two of the better D's we played last year ... just cause U dotn wanna admit it don't make it not true ... now maybe if u care to take your head out of Frye's Ass (tell Vers I said Hi .. must be crowded up there ... *L*) you'd realize we drafted BQ for a reason .. and its not because we think Frye OR DA is starter material .. thats all that matters ... U guys can all have your fun with me .. and thats fine .. knock yourselves out .. as usual time will tell ... and we all know whos side history is on .. and its not on the side of the ones who have trouble breathing due to the crowd up Frye's ass ...

I was just messing with you about the wins/losses things, but I do just want to add that DA looked worse against an aging Tampa defense than Charlie did in any other game last year IIRC.
Moreover, I think debating who would be the better backup is somewhat pointless and unknown as we stand.

Wow, what's new? More make believe stories from Brady Quinn's #1 fan.
3 common opponents for Frye and Anderson
vs the Ravens 90.2 - Frye 85.8 - Anderson
vs Pittsburgh 89.1 - Frye 78.2 - Anderson
vs Kansas City 131.4 - Frye 95.5 - Anderson

Ummm, Diam said Anderson played better vs Baltimore and Pittsburgh than Frye did vs any team. I proved that wrong, but then your hatred of Frye showed up. Typical of a 'typical' fan.
Frye and Anderson both played better vs KC and Baltimore than Manning did, but Manning played better against the rest of the teams in the league. Hence why the final QB Ratings on the entire season were:
101.0 - Manning 72.2 - Frye 63.1 - Anderson
I'm amazed at the lack of reading comprehension skills on here.

At least he has something other than just the old " because I said so"
Even without the stats, Charlie played great in the first Ravens game, he played great in the first half of the KC game. Eyeballs tell you that. Ill give the Pitt game to Anderson though, his balls were on the money that night. Even if the receivers werent catching.
Meet the new boss, same as the old boss...
