Philadelphia on up to NY State. East to South Jersey, West to Ohio.

New England calls it a Grinder.

The South calls it a Sub.

Sub is the more common name nationwide.

Loved Vernors - I still see around every now and then. You get the best burps ever from Vernors, real wall rattlers.

BTW, cream soda is pop. Vernors is pop. Its all pop.

If anyone ever starts a thread called "Underrated Pops", I will nominate RC Cola.

Of course, it all went to hell when they stopped using glass bottles.

I don't remember RC costing any more than Coke or Pepsi ... you must be thinking of Crown Royal.

We called it fake Coke. We hated it when mom bought that stuff when it was on sale.

You must have gotten a flat batch. Because imo, the only time Coke was ever better than RC was in the pony bottles. Its a lot like burgers; no one has ever compared a Big Mac to a Manners' Big Boy, or a Five Guys' Double, but sometimes you just want a Big Mac. That's how it was for me and Coke - usually I liked RC, Pepsi, and Coke in that order. Except when they had the pony bottles - then it was Coke.

Anyway, sorry for the temporary hijack - back to the Pop vs Soda vs Coke War.

Grew up in NW Ohio calling it pop. Now I call it soda. Though I barely drink the stuff anymore. If/when I do it's Coke bottled in Mexico where they use cane sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup. Occasionally I'll have a Vernors or another brand of ginger ale.
It's all just kinda bad for you. Especially the high fructose corn syrup stuff. Hollow calories without a lot of reward. I'd rather get my sugar fix from chocolate or other such actual desserts.

I probably haven't had a sip of anything besides water for about 15 years. I decided that "pop", juice, Gatorade, etc just wasn't worth it

I used to call it pop before the military, after being around so many others that called it soda, I catch myself calling it by both names. It one of those things that just doesn't rank high enough to matter.

You made me remember the drink my grandmother gave me when I spent my first summer with her in Oklahoma. The alka-seltzer of flavored drinks. Fizzies.

Back in the day I think they called them "phosphates" at the soda fountains. Cherry phosphates were awesome.

A trip to Tony Packo's 1.0 is a must. It's worth the trip just to view all the sandwich buns autographed by famous people. The food is top-notch, too.

________________

I do have to add this, however: a trip to/through East Toledo is one from which you may never return!

I've never been anywhere in this world with a more chaotic and senseless street grid in my life...and I actually spent 4 days driving in and around Boston! I actually have nightmares of never getting out of the shadow of the refinery there. Oregon is fine. GETTING TO Oregon is... [shudder].

Last year's holiday concert trip to your neck of the woods was EPIC: closed Interstate exits/on ramps. Through-town detours. In-town traffic gridlock, due to closed routes. Bad weather. Stupid drivers. Honking horns. Road/street rage. I left my house 1.5 hours before The Downbeat, and barely got there with 10 minutes to spare! (Dawg- it's supposed to be a 30-35 min commute...)

I hate My Town the instant I cross the Maumee River.
Can't help it- y'all's traffic infrastructure is totally messed up! rofl

BTW: We'll be back at Clay HS on 12/2. 7:30 PM. I'm even narrating a very cleverly-written piece that is based on "The Night Before Christmas" [hint].

Maybe this time, you'll get to introduce me to your lovely wife wink

Yeah, that traffic was a mess last year. We'll be there, but isn't it on the 7th? Wouldn't want you to get lost on the wrong date, lol.

I don't drink it but, I used to call it "pop" but then moved around and got into the habit of calling it "soda".

My dad always called it "Coke" no matter what it was. Even if he wanted (and preferred) Pepsi it was still "a coke" to him. He was born in Delaware...maybe that is a mid-Atlantic thing?

You're RIGHT! Thanks, Dawg- I got some dates reversed. Clay/Clyde... they're similar, but definitely not the same rofl

Turns out, I'm off-duty for the Clay gig... but you'll enjoy the concert just as much without my ugly mug messin' up the visuals...

enjoy!

You're absolutely correct.

If people suggest otherwise ask them is it a pop bottle or a soda bottle? Is it a pop bottle rocket or a soda bottle rocket?

It's a soda bottle and it's just a bottle rocket, in case you need to use a beer bottle.

Soft drinks (to use a more neutral term) were originally made fizzy with sodium bicarbonate.. baking SODA.. that's how they got the accurate name of soda. At NO POINT have any soft drinks ever been made with an ingredient called "Pop".. So y'all fringe radicals that call it "pop" are just making stuff up and should have your first amendment right to free speech revoked for being wrong. tongue
