Thanksgiving time again. Always a favorite time for me.
I like the weather this time of year. The packed shopping malls. The food.
The Thanksgiving Day NFL games
I love that creamy, cheesy, crunch, green bean casserole.
Used to spend it over the in-laws from ~ ‘79-to-’94. My ex-wife was one of 8 kids. The mother-in-law used to go all out. The dad-in-law too. They had a good sized house and there was a zillion people (sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews, grandma, doggies etc…). Me and the other brother-in-laws would chop wood or throw a football around; listen to the “Top 1,000 Rock ‘n Roll Songs of All-Time Countdown" on the radio (a local FM radio station tradition out here). Drink seasonal beers.
A lot of fun. A million things going on.
The in-laws both got old and died ~ 2013. The 8 kids split in all different directions. It’s a 21st century thing.
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."
I have a new job with 12 hour shifts, so for the first time in my life, I will be postponing the Thanksgiving meal until Sunday. At least I will still have football on, even though I will be watching the Browns.
20+ pound turkey, smeared with softened butter. Salt, pepper, a little garlic on top. I'll stuff it full of celery stalks, as you always get a moist turkey when you stuff with celery. I provide the turkey and mashed potatoes, while my mom provides the other foods like sweet potatoes, stuffing, gravy, pies, carrot and celery sticks.
I always make the stuffing when my mom does Thanksgiving dinner.
Bread; potato, white, sourdough, an/or wheat, eggs, chicken broth or bullion, butter, celery, mushrooms, onion, carrot, peppers, sea salt, seasoned salt, pepper, parsley, sage, rosemary, thyme, tarragon ..... (and sometimes a little bacon with all of the bacon fat) then stuff it in the bird till his eyes pop out. lol Then put the heel of the loaf of bread over the stuffing, and let it cook away. The bird, and stuffing, and always nice and moist. Some people use sausage in their stuffing as well, but I am more of a purist. ;)I also don't dry out the bread beforehand. i want it moist when i stuff the bird.
I think that the reason many people wind up with a dry bird when they stuff is is they they use a stuffing that is too dry. The stuffing needs to be almost wet when the bird is stuffed. It makes sense that your celery idea would also work, because celery has a lot of moisture in it. I'm just not a huge fan of celery by itself.

In the late '90s and early 2000s I had a job as a computer operator. One of my main tasks was running computer file back-ups that had to be run every day regardless of the day.
Push a few buttons and wait for 2 hours to push some more buttons.
I always volunteered for the main holidays (Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas).
I'd go in early morning with an iced six pack cooler of beer. The office was empty.
Sit in my cubicle, listen to holiday music and post on the Official Browns Board. (connecticutdawg)
I'd be done by noon @ and get 1 1/2 time off. - (1 1/2 vacation days accrued)
We always have both Turkey and Ham (I prefer Ham) and I love my wife's home made noodles
John 3:16 Jesus said "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life."
We tend to eat late afternoon around 3/4ish. So, I'll get up early and take my dogs on a long walk come back, help my wife cook while the Lions game is on in the background. After dinner we usually go for another walk (but not as long) and then come back, light a fire, poor a drink and play a board game like Trivial Pursuit, Clue, Scattergories, Pictionary etc.
I'll be frying a turkey as I have the last 6 years. I wanted to smoke one this year, but the family insists on fried. We're eating late also, so I'll miss some of the Lions game while frying the turkey. That game is huge for Detroit.

Yesterday I drove from Atlanta to Tampa to spend Thanksgiving with my Dad. There was some rather interesting new scenery. When I got to Brandon I noticed on my left a church with a gigantic white cross. It must have been hundreds of feet tall. I was like Oh that's nice. Then a couple more miles down the road there was a new huge honkin Confederate Flag on the right side of the road. It was HUGE. Later I googled that it is the largest confederate flag in the world. It made me chuckle. Florida is turning into a red state.

Man, WKRP was a fantastic show. Too bad we don't have shoes like that today.

"...play a board game like Trivial Pursuit, Clue, Scattergories, Pictionary etc."
These were some great games that came out in the '80s. I loved playing them all.
My all-time favorite was a lesser known game called Initial Reaction
The two spinners were for the first and last initial of a name.
When it was your turn, you spun the spinners, got your initials and your team (or individual) had 60 seconds to come up with a famous person's name with those initials.
This is a picture I took last winter off the deck of my apartment.
In the picture, a couple hundred yards away, beyond the parking lot and trees, down below, that is I-91, the main north/south interstate from Vermont, New Hampshire, Western Massachusetts and Central Connecticut (mainly Hartford) to New York City and south.
I'm posting this picture because I-91 is currently a parking lot headed both directions.
People headed north for Thanksgiving (that would be my preference) and south.
Rocky Hill is like at the geographic center of Connecticut (adjacent to and just below Wethersfield on this map)
eating day is here! have a good one guys. count your blessings
