Cleveland Browns offensive lineman Joe Thomas was voted to his 10th consecutive Pro Bowl. Thomas now holds the Browns record for most Pro Bowls, passing Pro Football Hall of Famers Jim Brown (nine) and Lou Groza (nine).
“It’s always an honor to be recognized by the fans, coaches and your peers,” said Thomas. “It is a feeling that never gets old. When I think about Jim Brown and Lou Groza, I think about not just two of the greatest Browns, but two of the greatest players to ever suit up in the NFL. It’s humbling to be mentioned in the same sentence as them. Those guys helped the Browns capture championships and that is one of my goals. Individual recognition is always nice, but I would trade it all for team success and that is what we work towards every day.”
Thomas joins Pro Football Hall of Famers Merlin Olsen (14), Mel Renfro (10), Barry Sanders (10) and Lawrence Taylor (10) as the only players in NFL history to make the Pro Bowl in each of their first 10 seasons. Thomas’ streak of 10 consecutive Pro Bowls is the longest active streak in the NFL.
A three-time Browns Walter Payton Man of the Year honoree, Thomas has played in all 9,791 offensive snaps since joining the Browns as the third overall pick in 2007. It is the longest active stretch in the league. He has started the past 158 games at left tackle, which is also the longest active streak in the NFL among offensive linemen. The 2017 Pro Bowl will be played on Sunday, January 29, 2017 at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida. The game will feature a return to the traditional AFC vs. NFC game format following three years using a revised, “unconferenced” format. In addition to Thomas, DB Joe Haden was selected as an alternate.

This is why we all like Joe so much, this guy will be here until he decides to leave. Something very few players ever get to do, write their own ticket.
WE DON'T NEED A QB BEFORE WE GET A LINE THAT CAN PROTECT HIM my two cents...
“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”
the fact that haden is an alternate is an embarrassment however
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Boston is far to the left as KC settles into the slot. Fannin is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Sampson are split in the backfield as the ball is hiked ... Here we go."

how? Haden has been solid this year when on the field.

Congrats Joe T.!!! You're the only guy we Browns fans can count on year after year. I want my Browns to turn it around because I am a big fan but I'd like to see it happen just as much for you.
that's the thing .. he's a role model in all regards

I know this is a congratulatory post but since we on the Joe topic...how much longer should we expect from him? Other than the outlier Matthew's every major LT has retired after what would be Joe's next season or the one after. Thoughts?
Joe Haden is picked as an alternate? how in the heck??
That should increase his trade value.
Ok for those wanting Garrapalo i will give NE Joe Haden and a 4th for him and NE gives me back a 5th ...

I just get sad a bit having the best LT in the game and not having our Franchise QB in that span of time. Oh well. Play on Joe!
Because Browns we'll end up drafting our 'franchise QB' the year Joe does retire. Then we'll spend the next 4 years trying to replace him while our QB gets physically destroyed from the blind side, then run out of the league for not developing or being injured. Rinse repeat. (Battered Dawg syndrome over here.)

No offense and not that it's all JT's fault but our QB's have been getting utterly destroyed anyways.

Joe Thomas reflects on 10th Pro Bowl: 'It doesn’t ever get old, that's for sure'

Thomas became the team's record-holder for most Pro Bowls
Joe Thomas says his 10th Pro Bowl in as many years is just as special as his first.
“It doesn’t ever get old, that’s for sure,” Thomas said Wednesday. “To be able to represent the Cleveland Browns at the Pro Bowl is something that would never get old.”
Thomas received his 10th consecutive nod to the league’s all-star game Tuesday night, becoming the team’s record-holder for most Pro Bowls, passing Pro Football Hall of Famers Jim Brown (nine) and Lou Groza (nine).
“This guy is going to be a Hall of Fame football player. That’s what he is. Like I told the team today, I do not think they get what playing with Joe Thomas means,” said head coach Hue Jackson, who described Thomas as a cornerstone of the franchise.
Thomas joins Pro Football Hall of Famers Merlin Olsen (14), Mel Renfro (10), Barry Sanders (10) and Lawrence Taylor (10) as the only players in NFL history to make the Pro Bowl in each of their first 10 seasons.
“It won’t really resonate with them until they are out of here five years or maybe removed from their career that they will say, ‘man I played with Joe Thomas,’” Jackson said. “I know that’s how I feel about coaching him. I’m coaching Joe Thomas, one of the best players to play the game, in my opinion, in his position. So it’s special.”
Jackson also pointed to how Thomas has kept a team full of rookies and younger players together through an 0-14 season. “You talk about a guy that the day he walked in here has been a Pro Bowl performer from the first year to the 10th year,” he said. “What I get disappointed about, and I will say it again and I'm not going to run from this, I'm disappointed that he has not won games in this league like I think players like him deserve.”
Asked if he’d trade Pro Bowls for the postseason, Thomas offered a chuckle and played down the honor.
“I think obviously making the Pro Bowl is really special,” he said, “but having the team success to share with your brothers that you work every single day of the season with and in the offseason would be something that's impossible to quantify because it’s something that would be so special and something we’re working toward every single day. It’s easy to say you’d give up the Pro Bowls for the Super Bowl rings.”
To be sure, Thomas remains one of the league’s most decorated and durable players. He’s played in all 9,791 offensive snaps since joining the Browns in 2007 and has started the past 158 games at left tackle, the longest active streak in the NFL among offensive linemen. Thomas acknowledged that kind of production over the years comes with a certain wear and tear.
“Playing 10 years at any position takes a physical toll on your body and you definitely don’t feel very good Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. Every year you get older you feel worse and for longer — it’s kind of a sobering thought,” he said.
“But I think as a competitor you still always keep that thought in your mind that, ‘I’m going to do everything I possibly can to block everything else out to be able to go out there on Sundays and give my team the best chance to win. I think that’s kind of been my motivation forever and I think it’s always superseded any injuries or any other things going on in a locker room and I think that’s when of the thing that’s kept me motivated through tough seasons.”
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Boston is far to the left as KC settles into the slot. Fannin is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Sampson are split in the backfield as the ball is hiked ... Here we go."

Arguably the greatest Browns' player ever? Top 5, for sure, and that's saying something because we've had some immortals. Congrats, Joe.
I am not at all surprised that Joe Thomas made the Pro Bowl, but I am absolutely stunned that Joe Haden did.
However, it's a great accomplishment for players on a winless team too make the Pro Bowl.

Joe Thomas is probably my favorite football player of all time. His jersey number is the ONLY one I ever wear.
You can't fix stupid but you can destroy ignorance. When you destroy ignorance you remove the justifications for evil. If you want to destroy evil then educate our people. Hate is a tool of the stupid to deal with what they can't understand.
While I'm happy for Joe, he deserves all the kudos he can, the fact that Haden was chose as an alternate just strengthens my feelings of the ProBowl, as just a popularity contest. I remember Polamalu making it in a year he was injured and hardly did anything.
It's a nice honor, but to me it just doesn't mean anything. I've seen players who were way better than some in the probowl never even get mentioned. Then, guys on Superbowl teams don't even show up, and the "alternates" play, and get "probowl player" on their resume'.
I like Haden, but to say he had a probowl season, is a stretch. There are no name corners all over the league that have played better than him this year, but they don't have the name recognition, so they are overlooked.
Joe Thomas is excited for Pro Bowl dodgeball, and has ideas for other events
BEREA, Ohio a Joe Thomas understands if you don't want to watch the Pro Bowl. He's never watched it, either. But the Browns' 10-time Pro Bowler has ideas on how to make the event more viewer-friendly.
Thomas was excited to learn that dodgeball will be part of the 2017 event in Orlando. Not because "I am excellent at dodgeball, a 10-time Pro Bowler going back to middle school." But because the NFL seems to have listened to his suggestions.
"Not to take any credit, but I'm taking credit here, that was one of my suggestions to spice up the Pro Bowl," Thomas said Wednesday. "To do skills challenges that aren't specific to your position."
Thomas was part of conference calls in recent years about how to improve the Pro Bowl. While he didn't specifically suggest dodgeball, Thomas said it's similar to the ideas he had.
"I thought it would be funny to make fat linemen try to throw a football or catch a football," he said. "Or make quarterbacks have a long drive contest or lift weights or something out of their comfort zone. I think people are going to watch it."
Thomas also liked the idea of bowling on the beach, a home run derby or 3-point contest.
"Everybody in an NFL locker room, they all love basketball, all grew up playing basketball," said Thomas. "They would die to have a 3-point competition and a home run derby. I think that would be so fun."
Along with dodgeball, this year's event will also have a relay challenge, as well as passing and catching competitions. All this diverts attention from the actual game, which is often criticized for lack of defensive effort. But Thomas isn't ready to do away with it.
"That's the way the Pro Bowl has always been," he said. "All all-star games are like that, with the exception of baseball because there's no contact. Make it fun. Make it entertaining. Fans will watch."

Even on our team I think BoddyCalhoun has possibly outplayed him. Or at least it seams like I've heard his name more. Though that doesn't count for the fact that teams may not be throwing to Haden's side as much.
