https://www.yahoo.com/celebrity/leah-remini-challenges-church-scientology-235044920.html

Leah Remini isn’t backing down on her stance against Scientology.

Amidst the success of her searing A&E docuseries Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath, the actress and author could soon be living the harsh reality of the latter portion of the program’s title. During Friday’s episode of Larry King Now, Remini welcomed a lawsuit from members of the controversial religious organization, which she followed for 34 years between 1979 and 2013.

“The church calls your reality show ‘a scripted, rehearsed, acted and dramatized work of fiction featuring liars who have, for a profit, been telling differing versions of the same false tales of abuse for years, many reviewed and discredited in courts of law,'” King told the 46-year-old star, noting the group’s disdain for the program, which explores the experience of Remini and several former church members with a critical focus. “They’re saying you have liars.”

“Then they should sue us. It’s as simple as that,” Remini responded. “They say this on every outlet they can. They have said that about every single person who’s spoken out, and not one lawsuit has been brought to anybody.”

She continued: “This is not a group that is scared of a lawsuit. They’re a litigious group. If that were true, they would simply sue us. And I welcome them to do that.”

The Church of Scientology has threatened legal action against its detractors in the past. In 2015, it published a five-page letter in The Hollywood Reporter criticizing director Alex Gibney’s expository documentary Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief ahead of its leader, David Miscavige, threatening to sue his father, Ron, for publishing a tell-all memoir earlier this year.

Remini, who also wrote a book about her dealing with Scientology, titled Troublemaker, told King the church’s bark doesn’t scare her, and she plans to bite back as long as she can.

“What I’m not going to stand for is an organization with this kind of money to continue to do things like that and to bully people and to harass people and to defraud people out of their lives, their money, but more importantly their families,” she said. “I’m just not going to sit around and watch it happen.”

Watch a snippet of Remini’s interview with King above. Check out the actress’ full episode of Larry King Now on Ora TV’s website here.

I've been watching the show with my wife (she's really into it), and I almost get nervous that it is giving Scientology too much press.

I can look at it and say "This is ridiculous. It's a cult". But some people want to be part of something, good or bad, and I just wonder if they end up seeing a surge in joiners.

Kind of like that KKK show on A&E coming out soon. Do we need to give that group any press? I mean, I kind of feel like those jokers are pretty much gone. There's racists in this country, but they certainly don't dress up in silly robes, do stupid rituals, and burn crosses. At least I can't imagine many do. And those that are are probably uneducated, unemployed, lowlives that are hardly a glowing endorsement

So yeah, while the show is interesting, it's hard for me to be that outraged because these idiots sign up for this. I get that they're indoctrinated, but I dunno, I'm just a skeptic. Especially these guys who were physically abused by this leader. He's lucky he hasn't pressed the wrong button on the wrong person and found himself beaten to death with the leg of a chair. For kids who've never known any better, I feel for them. But adults letting themselves be subjected to this garbage, I just don't get it

re: the show

If what the docuseries presents is all or mostly fact, it's not the ideological aspect that's perplexing. People have always and will continue to make sense of the world around them in any way possible.

What's surprising is the financial angle - the amount of money allegedly necessary to move up the spiritual ranks in regards to books, teaching supplies and seminars.

I mean, how many times can someone mortgage their home?

could someone briefly summarize Scientology for me? What is the main belief/assertion?

That is one ticked off woman. I guess I would be too if I found out everything I was raised to believe is a money making scheme.

Scientology teaches that their religion is the true way to bring about the next stage of human evolution. Through scientology they will solve all the world's problems, and reveal the actual truth to where we come from and our purpose in the universe.

Instead, they charge money for each level of scientology learning, and audit people for their beliefs, with the cost being to the student. They ask their people sign billion year contracts of service, as they will be reborn into a new body which will be a scientologist. Most spend upwards of $250 thousand to reach the highest level, which is currently being rewritten to add more levels.

The worst thing they do is separate families, by convincing them that anyone who speaks out against scientology is an enemy of the faith. Some of the people Remimi is interviewing have lost spouses and children that are still part of the church after they left. Those that speak out are harassed and even those that don't speak out are harassed.

It's based of Dianetics, basically a self-help study to unlock expanses and capabilities of the mind to a point where it is free and no longer in need of the body...it's as big of a cult i've ever seen. Supposedly theres an office setup in every church for L Ron Hubbard equipped with all his writing instruments for when he decides to return from whatever or wherever he is to continue, they believe he will and as such noone has been allowed to update the core text of his works since his death...I'm baffled people buy into it...its not a cheap endeavor notallthere

"Instead, they charge money for each level of scientology learning, and audit people for their beliefs."

To clarify this. To 'audit' someone is to ask them very personal questions. So what they do is ask their members in these interviews personal questions and write down everything you say. Then they have you. Especially prominent people in the 'church'. Do you think John Travolta wants his dirty laundry aired. The church silences any talk against it through, for all intents and purposes, blackmail. Imagine telling your priest your secrets then having them hold it against you. That's what Scientology has done to many of its members. It's how they manipulated their way into a tax free 'religion'. Watch the documentary "Going Clear". You'll be pissed these charlatains get away without paying taxes.

There's bigger cults in this world. Salt Lake City hosts one.

I remember reading Dyanetics when I was in High School. After reading the 1st chapter or so, I thought it was either brilliant, or a crock.

It was an absolute crock. lol

I believe any Church that spends more on building a new Church and paying their pastor than it does on charities should pay taxes.

not to mention all the investment in the lesser levels before you are "allowed" to invest in to the final. The average "parishioner" spends hundreds of thousands of dollars before they even get to that point

So that means there aren't really any "normal" people in it then?

I mean, the only people that can join is people with mad bread, cause the amount of money you guys are talking about is crazy.

My guess is they accept everyone's money. They just set "bars" to encourage more donations.

Makes me glad I go to church where I do. Between our church and another, they host a free community meal every Tuesday. Year round, 52 Tuesdays a year. Free will donation. Got 0? Eat. Wanna put $10 in the plate, $20? Go for it.

No money required - for the meals, or for attendance on Sundays.

No, they bilk who ever they can for whatever they've got. Only those that really have the coin can ascend the 'spiritual ladder'. It was only in the higher levels that the 'parishioners' learned of the aliens and such. Those higher up were sworn to keep those secrets they've learned amongst themselves. (Mainly because the church knew no one would start the process if that's where they knew the message was heading.) Now the secrecy has fallen away. They've been exposed. Why anyone would join and give their money to them I have no idea. How the government hasn't stepped in, I have no clue... other than they must have some deep secrets hidden away on folks.

Don't forget the thetans. Once you've reached a certain level, they teach you that you're full of thetans...the souls of murdered space aliens. I saw a show a while back on Scientology, and it seems the farther you rise, the more bizarre things become. Tom Cruise actually believes this crap.
