I see no reason why we shouldn't keep RG3 for next year. He's under contract and not at a huge price. Even if we do draft a QB at 1b or whatever, there is no guarantee he will be ready to play game one. RG3 has proven he is willing to put in the work and be a good teammate. Having a nice stable of QB's on THIS team isn't just prudent it's essential. Even when we have a decent line, for some reason Cleveland QB's get killed at an alarming rate and with the new concussion rules you can lose a lot of QB's fast. The time of having two on the roster and one on the PS are over. Having 4 or more on the roster might be wise. We better sink a LOT of effort into the line this offseason or it just won't matter who is QB. He won't be starting for long..... We better remake this line....

They would all be in the meetings, all present during walkthroughs and practice and I would have them all with headsets listening in on the play calls etc. Until we find THE QB and build a line that can keep his ass healthy keeping a large group of QB's on hand seems very wise to me. This season we lost #1 game one, #2 game two, and had a rookie starting game three while we scrambled to find a body to suit up as a backup.... QB injury is endemic to the Browns. Preparing for it might be a good idea.

Cleveland Browns
Who will be the starting QB in 2017?

This seems to be the question every year, but for good reason—26 different starting quarterbacks since 1999 will do that. 2016 saw a turnstile at the QB position, but seemed much worse than usual in Cleveland, as six different quarterbacks (if you count Terrelle Pryor) took meaningful snaps for the team. Robert Griffin III was placed on IR after the first game, only to return for the final four games. Josh McCown was forced to miss several weeks due to a broken clavicle. And rookie Cody Kessler missed games due to multiple concussions.

While this sounds like a terrible situation on the offensive line, the quarterbacks were heavily to blame for much of their sacks and hits, as four of the six Browns’ QBs ranked in the top six in longest time to throw, with McCown being the fastest at an average of 2.78 seconds per throw (13th longest in the NFL). Griffin (47.8) only got five starts, and while he showed improvement, was it enough to warrant another season for a career revival? McCown (45.5) looks like a veteran hanging on to loose thread, but Kessler (74.2) showed some promise for a viable QB in the NFL.

Kessler lacks NFL-caliber arm strength, but that can improve with growth and an NFL offseason. Kessler’s accuracy was extremely impressive, ranking fourth in adjusted completion percentage, at 78.2, first in adjusted completion percentage under pressure, at 79.4, and sixth in passer rating under pressure, at 82.4. Performing well under pressure is vital for success in the NFL. The Browns’ staff needs to figure out if Kessler can be the long-term answer, or whether they should go after New England’s Jimmy Garoppolo via trade—or take a shot in the draft.

When I watched RG3 the last few weeks I kept getting this impression of him as a QB who isn't willing to do what he's supposed to be doing. I guess the best way to describe it is to compare him to Kessler and his inability/refusal to throw the ball downfield. It's like his body posture says he knows he should trow it, says that he wants to throw it... but he can't bring himself to pull the trigger.

It was like that with RG3. He gets the snap, he's looking, he's looking, he's looking... and I'm like "what is he waiting for???" Then if he doesn't get sacked he runs.

Maybe it's just me but I feel like RG3 trusts his ability to run with the ball than he does to throw it.

In another QB thread I half joked about getting Hoyer back. Half joked. I don't care who we put under center as long as they are the type of guy who consistently makes his throws in that 2-3 second range. Our QB's this season have left waaay too many yards on the field because they spent more time hoping the right conditions developed instead of getting the ball to the play makers.

Yea.. I see that too. Cant tell if the receivers are ALWAYS covered or if they just dont trust the read. I'm tired of slight build shorter QB's that need to run. We need a 6'4 240 LB guy with a rocket arm and can take a licking. Or one that can take 2 or 3 drop steps and throw.. Something like MOST NFLS QB's do all the time.. Our slants and screens SUCK.

RG3 must have used a Jedi mind trick on this gullible front office and coaching staff. they really thought was a viable answer at QB.
He's a rec league flag football qb at this point
he's shown he can't read basic defenses or analyze what's in front of him
he tries to solve everything with his legs
if he's on this roster this year he's just taking snaps away from a
better option at qb

Well, I hate to say it, but it sounds like you want Deshone Kizer, and he won't be available at #12, let alone #33 imho. This kid will have front offices drooling in the room with a white board. He is intelligent, knows how to read defenses, understands football...Then he gets in a game and makes bonehead throws to avoid interceptions. It's like he loses confidence between 5-20 yards...He is great on quick slants and WR screen throws...he can drop a football in a bucket 40 yards down the field, then he will throw a ball 25 yards down the field into a spot where there is no chance for a defender to catch it, unfortunately, his receiver is no where near the ball either...

As for skill set, he has it in spades. Prototypical size, he is custom made for the AFC North. If he could only make those intermediate throws, he could be a future All Pro, but I have seen no evidence of him snapping out of that.

Most posters just want to see SOME improvement in players, most beings rookies, but as it happens RG has shown improvement game to game. Which is more than some other QBS weve had over the years. So yeah, if he comes back and tears it up in OTA's by all means let him start 2017.

Unless we get Garrapolo or get stupid by reaching for a QB, that probably will be the way we roll.
