Windy as all hell in Euclid, right by the lake. Lake is not frozen anymore.
...And at least it's not freezing out anymore.

Crested Butte in Colorado had to close its slopes because of too much snow. A few others closed today because of avalanche danger on the mountain pass .

We're getting snow again tonight. Could get interesting in the morning. The nice thing is we're getting 12" up on Hood. I'm skiing this weekend. First time out this season. Can't wait.

If the snow keeps falling like it is, I'll be skiing in July.

Lol - yeah, I have about 10" of snow and counting... I have 12" and counting in NW PDX. I took my dogs on a walk and went into the hills. As there was no traffic to worry about they just ran through the streets having a great time! Snow depths ranged from 12-18". So far on the 6th snow day off school but, as the thaw wont start until the weekend...I don't see us going in for the rest of the week. At this rate school may finish around 4th of July!

Went out to clean my truck off just in case I need it. There was a good 10" on it. I had to get up on a ladder and clean the Direct TV dish off as I had no signal. Cleared a path to the hot tub. Cleaned the heavy snow off of some of my younger trees and such around the yard. I'll have some clean up to do this spring as a few very large branches fell from my Fir trees out back. Thankfully sparing my cedar fence and garden fence.... It's still snowing.

It took me 4 hours to get to it (eventually got here by train), and of course all flights were canceled last night and this morning...I can hear that some flights have taken off and I've been rebooked for a flight in a couple hours. Still snowing though. It'll be interesting to see if I can get home tomorrow from the airport.

I have a pair of extenders, used for painting high places, that I strapped together, and connected to a medium sized "scrubby" type tool, and I can use to knock the snow off of the DirecTV dish, when it really builds up. It is fairly lightweight, and I usually have to use i a few times/winter. I don't know why they can't build a couple of small heating elements into the dish, and make it so if you have no signal because of the snow, you could just hit a button on the remote, and heat the surface of the dish just enough to melt the snow. (for areas in snowy areas, anyway)

My neighbors and I just got done cutting a big tree that had fallen across our road. Two chainsaws, a bow saw, an axe and 2.5 hours later....job done. I am pretty sure we have 1.5' here now....it's pretty deep. Haven't seen this since 2008. In terms of extended lengths of bitter cold, snow, ice storms, downed trees etc. this has been the worst winter in Portland since I have lived here (2007).

It was 50+ degrees and sunny here in CT.
An exceptionally nice day. Normal daytime highs now are ~ 35 degrees.

] My dog in my backyard early this morning. ] My car and truck buried under the snow. Took the truck out to get some groceries this morning. Roads sucked but the truck handled them well. It's a relatively flat mile to the store. Not a lot of vehicles out there. Manly trucks, ATVs, and snowmobiles in this hood. The store was busy...really really busy. I think most folks are expecting to be locked down until the rains this weekend.

Thanks. We often get compliments on his looks. He is a really good looking dog with a sweet face and even sweeter disposition. He'll be 4 this summer. A Humane Society adoption. Pretty sure he's an American Staffordshire. Smart, gentle, obiedient, friendly to other animals of all kinds...except for one pig...almost fought that, but it started it. Now it's bacon so it no longer matters.

I want to get out and go to the store...I fear it will only get worse as it is supposed to be freezing until Sunday. Once it freezes....ugh.
We have two 4 wheel drive Subarus but, no snow tires (they are all weather tho). I feel like I can do it but, our road wasn't plowed and we have 18" here. Hmmmm....do I risk it? It's either that or walk 2 miles.

You guys are lucky. We rarely get snow here. If you have hills and the road isnt tended its probably not worth it to try and drive.

Which means the city has few snow plows and they do not use salt on the roads. Basically 1-2" of snow shuts the city down. I got at least 8" last night. Take into consideration the city itself sits on a river 75' above sea level and is backed by 1400' tall hills. Those hills are impassable. As are many other hilly areas scattered around the valley floor. We rely on our generally temperate climate to get us through winters. Most of the times it snows it melts the next day in the rain. This winter we've had below average temperatures stick around during these snow events. This recent one will grind the city to a halt until at least Saturday. I'll let you have the weather if you want it.

I love the initial excitement of a proper, real snow storm like what we received last night. Between 8" and 18" fell throughout Portland....it all depends on where you are. As Portland said, 1" stops this city. Portland is effectively on total shut down with snow this deep. They also couldn't have got it more wrong. 1-4" was forecast! However, all of that said...in the initial hours of the storm....the stillness is wonderful and waking up to what look like a marshmallow land due to all the weighted down trees, lumps of snow on decks, fences, cars etc. was, beautiful. With freezing weather lingering until Sunday...yea, it is going to be a drag and a pain real quick! The kids, however, are having a blast....they have already had 6 snow days off school and my guess they will get the rest of this week too. We are only mid way into Jan too! The worst weather this area gets tho is the freezing rain. That is a total bummer and very dangerous.

As Christmas wasn't too long ago we still have a fair amount of booze too.

Quote above by Portland: “...except for one pig...almost fought that, but it started it. Now it's bacon” The story behind this... My friend,Tyler, that I build art with has a birthday bash each year on his property out in the sticks. We set up our art, uplight the trees, get a big sound system and have a major all night rager. Samson, my dog, comes along each year. Well, a couple years back his neighbor had a pig. The pig was penned in an area that was on the property line. Only a rusty metal fence dividing the yards. Samson was generally uninterested in the animal. He'd been around farms for awhile and just thinks of other animals as part of life. My girlfriend and I had been up most of the night, getting very little sleep in a tent we pitched. Samson came and went through the flap in the tent throughout the night. Going out to mingle with the still partying guests while my girlfriend and I rested. The sun came up and we got out of the tent. The pig, in his pen just s few feet away, charged at my girlfriend. Stopping just short of the fence. Samson lost it. He jammed his head as far as he could through the fence and growled, barked, and snapped viciously at the pig. It's the first and only time I'd ever seen his pitbull side. The pig backed down and ran to the other side of the pen. Let's just say it would have been bacon sooner if there were no fence.

I just saw the currrent national temperarures on the CT local channel 3 TV . We are expecting record highs today. But get this - it is currently 64 degrees in Cleveland right now!!! At 4:30 AM on January 12th. That's almost 50 degrees above the normal over night temperature for Cleveland in the middle of January. That's an overnight temperature you could expect on July 4th. To put that into perspective, that would be like if it was 120 degrees overnight in Cleveland in mid-July. It is currently like a once-in-a-century record high in Cleveland right now. You could comfortably go outside right now in shorts and a t-shirt and flip-flops.

We had rain just soak us today. I actually got a bit of water in my basement, and it was locked up tight as a drum before today.
