I like cook but he's not effective inside the box and his trademark turning the corner will be marginalized with NFL defenders speed. I don't think he's enough of a jump over duke to warrant such a high pick. And hue seems in love with our RB. No other position did he give so much praise

So what do you guys think of the comments that were made by the NFL execs in terms of selecting Garrett?

Man if We got Garrett at #1 and Solomon Thomas was still somehow there at 12 it would be really tough to pass on him. The idea of a Von Miller plus an Aaron Donald on our D Line is very appealing. Especially after our defense being craptastic again last year.

I don't have any faith that Des Bryant will be back with us this year after last year's contract ugliness and him coming off injury. If we have a chance to get Thomas at 12 we need to jump all over that. The guy's power and acceleration combo is rare.

I wouldn't go into all those specifics. Would just say there's no way in Hell we should even consider drafting a RB in the first round of this draft.

I'd be shocked if we take RB at #12 especially when I think Hue truly believes in the talents of Duke which would replace him.

I put almost zero stock into mock drafts. They change several times as the weeks go by.

I do some stock into big boards.

And I really put a lot of stock into comments made by the NFL execs. I am still curious as to what are people's thoughts on the comments made by the NFL execs regarding who we should draft w/the first overall pick????????????????????????????

They're spot on. You don't walk away from an elite edge rusher when one falls in your lap. Especially when there is no QB worthy of the #1 pick.

To me it's a no brainer but for the sake of argument, you'll hear a lot of differing opinions that make little to no sense.

The one thing the Browns lack the most is impact players. We simply don't have cornerstones to build around. Not every player on the field has to be elite, but you need a handful of them. Other than Joe Thomas, we have none. It's been a perpetual problem for the Browns and we have a chance to change that with the selection of Garrett.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

I couldn't agree more.

If a QB we like is on the board at pick 12, I could give them the benefit of doubt, but they will not have that same benifit with the 1st selection in the draft.

IDK, two EDGE guys in the first round?

Certainly there will be value at CB at pick 12, but in a deep class, we can find starting CB prospects in rounds 2-3, so I am leaning towards Caleb Brantley. He is the 2nd best 3-Tech in the draft and we already have Ogbah and Nassib to go along with Garrett. The strength of any 4-3 Defense is the DL. At this point the only thing that could take me out of this mind set would be if Adams or Hooker where to some way fall to us pick 12.

WR Williams or Davis would be tempting, but if we can resign Prior, then that would make that scenario less likely.

Vers, I believe only a moron would pass on Garrett if he passes the physical. He played with a high ankle this year and that could be something to watch but man there has only been a few players that have made me go wow as I study them.

Derek Carr blew me away woulda taken him #1

JJ Watt kept thinking is this guy the best player in the draft but noone is seeing it.

Derrelle Revis thought man this guy is the best I have seen since Deon

Last year, I thought Buckner was the best in the draft.

Now I see Garrett and I see the guy double teamed and then run to the other side. I see them run a triple team at him and he makes the tackle with the TE he throws at the RB. Then he just destroys great OT's and dumps the QB on his ass.

Dont get me wrong, I love allen and I think he is this year's buckner but Garrett is a full notch above even Allen. He impacts coaching decisions at a level you only see from an Adrian Petterson, a Megatron, an Aaron Rogers. He is doing it from the D side folks.

I loved Clowney's physical but I questioned his love of the game. Garrett has the same physical but much stronger against the run and he was rushing the passer hopping off the field because of the ankle pain and the next 3rd down he was right back out there rushing again.

This is your franchise defensive player for the next 8-10 years. You dont give that up ever.

Mourg, I was on the Brown's official board at the time, but no one.......and I mean .........no one pimpled Watt more than me.

tab started a Draft thread in the Tailgate forum really early in the year. I mentioned Watt right away because I was lucky enough to watch one of his games. I kept telling people that he was the real deal and I only got more adamant about it as the year went on.

The only player I ever pimped harder was Joe Thomas and perhaps Teddy.

Interesting. I still like Brantley for a 3T, imo he has been very under rated. I think that he will have a better career than Allen.

Five personnel executives agree that Browns should take Myles Garrett at No. 1

by Chris Pokorny@DawgsByNature Jan 18, 2017, 8:43pm EST

Deshaun Watson? Mitch Trubisky? Myles Garrett? Trading down?

The Cleveland Browns control their own destiny with the No. 1 overall pick, but earlier today, Daniel Jeremiah of NFL.com polled five personnel executives to ask them what Cleveland should do with the pick. It was unanimous — all five said the team should select Garrett. The quotes from the executives included:

--“I don't think the Browns have a choice. ... It has to be Garrett. He has such rare physical tools. He's clearly the best player in the draft."

--"Garrett makes the most sense. The Browns are switching to a 4-3 defense and he fits perfectly. He's the best player available and he fits what they need."

--"There's no quarterback this year worthy of the first pick. Plus, next year's QB class is going to be much better than this group. So, if you reach for a quarterback this year, you miss out on a player like Garrett and you remove yourself from taking a much better QB next year? That doesn't make any sense. Just take Garrett at No. 1."

--"Don't overthink it. Garrett is an elite talent at the second most important position on the field."

--"I'd be shocked if they don't pick Garrett. I guess they could trade down, but they did that last year and missed out on (Carson) Wentz. I thought that was a big mistake."

Put a gun to my head and force me into a decision today, and I’d take Garrett too. Talk of a quarterback will make for some good debates, but ultimately, Cleveland could be going defense.

http://www.dawgsbynature.com/2017/1/18/1...garrett-at-no-1

I agree w/every take that these guys made, especially the parts about Garrett being an elite player at the second most important position on the field AND that there isn't a QB worthy of being the first overall pick in this year's draft.

Think about that for a minute. You reach for a QB because you need one and then you are married to the guy for at least three years, which means you will pass on better qbs in subsequent drafts.

Just draft Garrett!

I agree. We are on the clock. Get the deal in place next week. Focus our attention on later plans and picks.

The only reason to maybe not do so it to bluff SF in to thinking you are going to take their QB choice, and somehow swap down 1 slot, get a pick and Garrett. Maybe get them thinking the Bears are looking to move up to #1.

But, that's all smoke and mirrors. Just take Garrett. To use another name, why would you not take Bruce Smith? Garrett may never be that, but he is the best bet to be that in a long time. The Browns need to go with the surest bet they can. Any QB isn't anywhere near the surest bet. And as you said, if we go QB this year, we ride him the way we rode the Tim Couch wagon for far to long.

If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.

The way I see it, there are 3 elite players in this draft. Williams, Garret and Hooker. The Browns have to find a way to get 2 of them.

j/c...

I know Garrett looks like the perfect pick for us. But if they (Hue) feel that there is a franchise QB in Trubisky...I think we will make that pick #1. Keep in mind I am thinking on what the Browns will do. I just don't want you all setting yourselves up with an OH NO!!! moment come draft day.

If we feel we can get Watson at 12...and he is the guy we want I can see us taking Garrett then.

Mitch will be gone there just are too many teams right after us needing a Franchise QB. Nothing is as rare as a Franchise QB. This is a chance for us to get the best QB in this draft class and we aren't talking about it looking like the Geno Smith class.

Just saying got a feeling we are taking QB #1. And I can understand why.

I know you think you are this exceptional poster so that if you ASK a question...all must react.

I am not responding to your question cause its not important to me...its important to you. You answer it...

My agenda? Making the Browns Great Again...lol laugh

Were just joking around? Or were you being obnoxious and insulting...real question cause I know you have a sense of humor. Hard to read it correctly on a message board.

But something that might be important to you and you wish to grade posters answers. Just isn't that important to me.

I did a mock btw and had Garret for us at #1...I don't need to read what others say who usually execs who talk about the pick are no where close to that pick. They can say something seriously or hope that he will drop...cause if he drops then the other good DE's will drop a little also.

Same thing with QBs.

All I know is we need a Franchise QB and we got the overall #1 pick last we had was 2000. In those situations most teams will take the Best QB available. Unless its a rare Geno Smith QB class.

Ok so it was a serious curiosity so none of the above I stated...lol laugh

The only Execs that would say anything about guys who are in the top 5 picks have to be in the last 8 or so picks. Who knows about their perspectives we can ASSume just about all of them have their franchise QB and many of them have had them for quite a while. So their perspective might be different.

Very few Edge Rushers go #1...Clowny and in year 3 I think he is coming around but he is not the best on the DL Mercilas?

Von Miller has had the biggest impact in recent years and he came from where? There really is no such thing as a can't miss. Possibly the kid Barnett will end up the better DE???

I agree with the Exec that an Elite Edge Rusher can lift other players up and make a D better. I'm fine with that pick. Its just I know they Generalize us as taking all these First Round pick QBs but they have been #22 and the 2nd pick in the First round for us which to me never made sense.

This is an opportunity we have not had since 1999 and that is to take the Best QB in this Draft Class that of course means they have to be a Top 10 Pick QB on almost all the MOCKS.

We know how this works. So many times I will like a QB and they show them around this time as a 2nd round pick and I would say lets get him with #22 and then come draft time he is going #2 or #3 and out of our real of getting him.

Last year was one of the first time we could have ended up with the #1 QB (I thought) in Wentz but I get it we were not too up on him and thought our need to build with a mega return in Draft picks was better for us.

Now I think that Trubisky is a bit better than Wentz and we have been showing interest in him for quite some time now. So I think he just might be our guy. So I can see us taking him overall#1

This draft is very deep in the defense. We won't get Garret of course but we will have stellar talent at hand for the D throughout our draft.

Noe I think 2 QBs, 1 WR, 1 RB n maybe 1 OT will go before our pick at 12. And who knows what the Jets will do. Garrett of course will be gone so will Allen. We will get a very good talent at 12...

QB almost never ever is the BPA. But if you don't got that Franchise QB it adds to the pick.

I hope somewhere in there I answered your question. Quite frankly I read it once a little while ago (days) and don't remember word for word what was said just that almost all of them said they would pick Garrett. Again they don't have that need for a QB that we do. But you never know cause all coaches have an EGO and possibly Hue would opt for getting the stud D player as he will take care of the O without the QB pick.

But you will see the last couple of weeks prior to the draft you will have a lot of these experts (not execs of course) having us take Trubisky keep in mind they aren't making exec decisions but they do a lot of snooping and things are hard to keep secret.

It is beginning to look like if the Browns take Garrett number one that Trubisky, Watson and Kizer will be gone by pick 12.

If that happens and the Browns don't trade for Garoppolo that means Mahomes, Kaaya, Davis Webb, and Chad Kelly might become options in later rounds.

I haven't looked at Webb, and Kaaya just a hair. Seen some of Mahomes and Kelly.

It seems hard to believe that a team needing a quarterback as bad as the Browns need one and having the number one and 12th pick would go outside of the first round to get a guy.

So if there is no move to get Garoppolo then "if" the Browns plan on getting one of the top three quarterback prospects then number one may have to be the choice.

Once again I come back to Garoppolo. The Browns move to get him and they can come out of the first round with Garrett and Garoppolo.

For me getting the best quarterback available and a pass rusher is paramount.

The only other possible way to get that accomplished might be that they take their guy quarterback at number one and then "hopefully" get Solomon Thomas at 12.

Write now Garrapolo is just a rumor that writers are suggesting.

Let me know if/when we actually get permission to work him out or something of that nature whee we show interest. I will say this it ALL COMES DOWN to HUE if he thinks Trubinsky is a Franchise QB n is sold on it. Its a done deal we won't think about Garrapolo at all. So the further this goes along and we don't show some interest in Garapolo outside of just rumors we are taking that QB.

And for me if we don't think they are bonafide Franchise QBs I won't cry about getting Garret I like the idea of him and Ogbah at the bookends. But I more than like the idea of finally having a Franchise QB and he won't have to start right away.

It appears there is more to the Garoppolo thing than just writers rumors.

When a guy like Lombardi comes out and says the Browns are looking at him and he throws out a first and forth rounder as a price? Not just that but all the circumstances involved in Brady and the contracts of Garoppolo and Brady's extension make this more than just writer fantasy.

Never have a heard of a case like Garoppolo when permission is asked to work the guy out. You don't get permission from a team to work a guy out who is under contract.

Don't recall that happening with Osweiler.

A trade for Garoppolo if it happens might not happen till draft day. There are many moving parts in the Garoppolo scene included other teams who may have interest.

We could very easily be surprised that the guy Hue may want is Kizer. And Kizer is the guy taken number one.

Thanks for taking the time to answer, tab.

I don't agree w/you about the QBs, but that's not a big deal.

QB Brad Kaaya 1st round grade is a bit of a shocker, but then I think the 3 QBs are rated far too high, even though they will be drafted higher then they should, I don't agree with rating them where they might get drafted.

Solomon Thomas would be a gift at the top of round 2.

Also he has WR Cory Davis as the 32nd best player in the draft, but has him rated as his top route runner and highest rated for potential, so there is an inconsistency there.

Matt Miller doesn't really know alot and contradicts himself all the time. I wouldn't pay him alot of mind. Daniel Jeremiah and the guys at ESPN are alot more plugged in. Expect Matt Miller to change his list drastically in a few weeks.

I think (hope) the Browns are thinking Garoppolo (first) or Tyrod Taylor (second) for next year. A rookie pretty much insures another 1-2-3 win season next year, IMO, and I don't think Hue survives in that case.

Marlon Humphrey seems to be a pretty controversial player. I've seen him ranked very high in some big boards and not even ranked in others. Personally I really like him.

Lombardi didn't say the Browns were looking at Garoppolo. He said he "thought they would".

I think that's a big problem waiting to happen.

You have a plan in place.

You can alter the plan along the way.

But once you start making decisions like "we need to trade for this guy" or "we need to sign this guy" because you're worried about job security, instead of it being part of the (altered) plan..

That's when things go wrong, and get blown up.

Phil Savage was Mr. "Build through the draft" and then went out and threw a bunch of money at Bentley and Jurevicious.

The NFL is killing itself, because "5 year plans" no longer exist. If you aren't 8-8 in your second year you're probably "on the hot seat" in your 3rd.. Regardless of how good the team was when you got there..

Assuming we stay where we're at in the first and second rounds, that means we get FOUR of these top 50. Pretty cool.

I think we draft Garrett because our GM doesn't want to commit career suicide. I mean if garrett were to bust who would ever fault the GM for that?

Then I think at 12 it will depend on who is taken and who falls into our laps. It's very possible they take a QB here. I feel it would be Trub or Kizone(I hope not). I don't think any of them are worth a first round pick but it is what it is. They might decide to wait till later in the draft and just give RG3 a second chance. Honestly I would not be upset to give RB3 that second chance. It would give him another season in the same system. He might be able to speed his game up when he doesn't have to think so much.

If Trub or Kiz falls to 33 I imagine they will pull the trigger in a heartbeat. Hell if was me and I took one at 12 I might take the other at 33 and let the best player win! Josh can be hired as our QB coach like Hue was talking about if he decided to retire. It would be fun to have RG3, Trub, and Kiz battling it out for the starting role. We would have the best backups in the league at least =P LOL can you imagine the absolute chit storm it would cause if they did something so crazy =)
