I'm not sure some states could be trusted to help the poor, integrate their communities, or provide equal rights for all Americans.

Young Dawg... The Movement will always be too wide and too deep to be killed off by the death of any one person.
Trust TF outta that, son.
Martin started this movement... and he's been dead for 50+ years. I'm still here, and talking his message on The Daily.
Martyrs die... but their message never does.
Problem I see Clem is that a movement without a leader is chaos and when I look at "the movement" for a while now, that's what I see. MLK knew what his greatest weapon was and he was using it perfectly to attract an increasing number of white people to his side of the cause. More than 50 years after his death, nobody has been able to pick up that baton and run with it on a large enough scale to really continue what he started. Sure, we have made a lot of progress in many respects but we are now, where I think we would have been 30 years ago had he been able to continue.

a Rocket alluded to (right word?), there's states you can't trust for damn to take care of the people, especially when it comes to Civil liberties.
Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana just off the top of my head.

Poor management by the state on how to use the money, perhaps? The Fed gives the money, but Mississippi can't figure out a way to enact policies that truly benefit the impoverished.

The state with a republican governor and leaders? Who followed 8 years of a democrat, who followed 12 years of a republican, who followed 8 years of a democrat.. And a state senate in which republican control numbers have been growing but the legislature has bounced back and forth... but you really think I was making a partisan point? It was bad and declining when the dems controlled it, it sucks now... blame whichever party you want if that makes you feel better. But I assume if I told you that Michigan has below average debt for a US state and has had decent growth in GDP in the last few years, you would give all of that credit to the federal government and not the republicans in charge. Pick and choose as you will...

Excellent point.
So explain to me what that has to do with civil liberties like the issues those 3 states I named, when it comes to civil justice and equality.

____
The conversation was about civil liberties, and how you can't trust certain states to take care of the people.
Take a guess as to why I named those 3 states. Hint: it has something to do with civil liberties.

jc Here's the inauguration schedule tomorrow, for those who are interested in watching. http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/polit...edule/96780860/Friday
8:30 a.m.: Trump, Pence, their Cabinet nominees and their families and friends will attending a church service at St. John's Episcopal Church, known as "the church of the presidents" because every president since James Madison has attended services there.
9:30 a.m.: Trump, Pence and their families will attend a tea hosted by President and Mrs. Obama on the South Portico of the White House.
10 a.m.: President Obama and Vice President Biden will escort their successors to the Capitol for the inauguration.
11 a.m.: The inauguration program begins.
Noon: Pence will be sworn in as vice president, followed by Trump's oath of office as president. Trump will deliver his inaugural address.
1 p.m.: Trump, Pence and their wives will will attend a Joint Congressional Inaugural Committee luncheon at the Capitol.
2:30 p.m.: Trump and Pence will attend a military review at the east front of the Capitol, and then parade down Pennsylvania Avenue to the White House.
3 p.m.: Trump and Pence attend the inaugural parade in stands just outside of the White House. Afterward, he will work in the White House, where he may sign some executive orders.
7 p.m.: Trump, Pence and their wives will attend the Liberty and Freedom Ball at the Washington Convention Center, followed by the Military Ball at the National Building Museum. Noon would be a good time to tune in

Oh, I got you now. You want to know, if we leave it up to the states to decide, what guarantees will be kept in place so that blacks in backwards places like Alabama and Louisiana will be protected and cared for and have opportunities like blacks in east Cleveland and Chicago.. Well I have to admit, I guess there are no guarantees that they would get to enjoy that level of civil rights and dignity.

Trump received a letter from President Nixon in 1987...
Dear Donald,
I did not see the program but Mrs.Nixon told me You were great on the Donahue Show. As you can imagine, she is an expert on politics and she predicts whenever you decide to run for office, you will be a winner!
With warm regards,
Sincerely, Richard Nixon

wasn't it the conservatives who started a civil war so they could keep their slaves?
Well, if you want to talk history....in 1924 the kkk had a huge presence at the Democratic convention....and all of those dem delegate klansmen were upset that the party was planning to nominate a Catholic for president, so they attended a protest called "the klanbake". Also, there were enough democrat klan delegates there to defeat a motion to condemn klan violence. Robert Byrd was probably there, lol We have to be careful in how we use history to support an argument. I don't believe democrats support the kkk any more than I believe conservatives support slavery.

which is why you have to remember to separate party from ideology.
you look at the state of conservatism and liberalism, and walk it back throughout history, and the only thing that changed was party identification.
i'm not doubting that dem's suck. they suck even now. but the post was in response to what 40 was talking about.

Man, every time I turn on the news, all I hear about is someone protesting this or someone else protesting that.
Gets old pretty darn quick.
I don't like Trump, that should be clear, but at noon today, he'll be our president. I'm not happy about it and I'll watch every move he makes and I'll comment if I think it's negative or positive.
But I won't protest. I won't attend a protest and I won't watch them on TV. Waste of my time.
Again, I do hope it's all peaceful.. But I have my doubts.

Definitely should've went.
