I'd be happy to have Jimmy as QB - he's a much better than anything we have and he's going to play better in 2017 for the Browns than any QB we draft. But I still think there is some risk and I wouldn't part with either first round picks. I'd prefer not to have to deal the #33 either and Hue would have to be sold 100% if that was the deal. So what you're saying is that there are no QB's in the 2017 draft worth a first round pick or our pick at 33. Because you stated Jimmy G. would do better than all of them but that he isn't even worth the 33 pick. Glad we understand you. I am fine with your opinion except I disagree on what Jimmy G. is worth. Even an avg QB is worth a first round pick these days.

Amen! FO got one right IMO. I'm happy they got it done quickly so they can use the franchise tab on TP now if needed. I would honestly rather use the franchise tag on him for a year and see if he can show consistent improvement before locking him in long term.

Amen! FO got one right IMO. Yess, its a start to keeping some talent for a change. Now if it Kuechly money then its about what I would expect us to have to pay... about 15 - 20 % above his worth, Until which time we can show stability and winning as an organization we will have to overpay to keep / attract talent.

Please O' LOST ONE. Explain to us ignorant ones EXACTLY how much we overpaid to sign Collins long term.
This outta be good.
Got my Prep H ready. Get YOURS.
You're ASSuming on every bit of your drivel.
Oh I get it. He turned down 11 a year from NE. So when he actually SIGNS a deal for MARKET, that team overpaid 15%-20%. Now we get it.
Get a clue.

Get a clue. What makes you a expert on market value? How do you know what is overpaid, and who really cares if we overpaid? Just saying. I don't think you were complaining 5-6 years ago when the rookies were getting that money. You need to grow with the times. Second contracts for good players are always going to be big.

I'll type slow so you can read it
Based off the contact numbers on Luke Keuchly, which was The referenced contract in the conversation
The numbers per game
JC has 30% less tackles per game JC has about 35% less passes defended per game JC has about 30% less interceptions per game JC has about 65.% more sacks per gamr
Now the years spent with NE notwithstanding the Carolina Defense and the supporting cast around LK would allow Him to have better numbers and his role is more run stuffer, More drop in coverage and less blitzing so that explains some of it
Still the Numbers would indicate LK is overpaying.
But as noted I have no problem with that Its not my money We have the cap space We need to keep our talent We will have to overpay to keep / attract talent until our Culture changes

Agreed with all that. I often wonder why posters worry so much about what a contract looks like money-wise, esp. in this age where teams can manage the cap better. We needed to start keeping our better players, as you stated, and so I don't care if we "overpaid" to keep a good player on the roster. I'm glad we got this done early. Edit: fixed typo

http://www.dawgsbynature.com/2017/1/22/14352818/what-is-the-latest-on-the-browns-and-jamie-collinsWhat is the latest on the Browns and Jamie Collins? by Chris Pokorny@DawgsByNature Jan 22, 2017, 6:22pm EST share Last week, Jason La Canfora was the first to report a coming contract extension for Cleveland Browns OLB Jamie Collins. La Canfora specifically said that the deal was “expected to be done by the weekend,” which means a lot of Browns fans have been eagerly anticipating news of the extension. So, what’s the latest? Nothing much, but Sunday evening, fans who followed the Browns on the NFL app received an alert saying that Collins has signed an extension with the Browns. Is it official? It’s kind of hard to say. The alert showcased a video with a voiceover from Browns.com’s Nathan Zegura. The narration begins with, “Collins and the Browns have come to terms on a contract that will keep Collins with the Browns for the next four seasons [through 2020].” The narration goes on for another minute, talking about Cleveland’s long-term plan for retaining key talent. Sounds good, right? Except that it’s the only place you’ll find the deal reported — the Browns’ mobile app. It is highly unlikely that the Browns would willingly choose to release such news on that outlet only, as opposed to Browns.com and other outlets. It almost seems like someone jumped the gun and set the news to post prematurely. While I imagine that Cleveland will still announce the signing of Collins soon, imagine how embarrassing it’d be for the aforementioned video to get out, and then negotiations stalled.

The report from a few days back that the Browns would be bringing back linebacker Jamie Collins is done, as NFL.com is reporting it’s a four-year deal. While no numbers are being reported as of yet, there was a report from Ian Rapoport of NFL Network on Friday that stated the deal yearly would make him the highest paid LB in the league. Kuechly inked a five-year deal back in 2015 worth $61,801,565. The 27-year-old was acquired from the Patriots for a compensatory third-round pick. He made the Pro Bowl and was named 2nd Team All-Pro in 2015. http://www.neosportsinsiders.com/browns-reportedly-ink-lb-jamie-collins-four-year-deal/one down, now for Pryor...

I think they are just giving the app users a jump over the regular media on a sunday The NFL frowns upon news being announced the same day as playoff games. I'd expect we hear something new at some point on Monday (1/23).

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

No please don't go Texas...need some sanity in my Browns addiction...lol
1. Kuech and Collins do not play the same position. MLB and usually MLB are paid a little less than the Will and Sam LBs who can rush on the outside with the DE.
2. In the 4-3 if you have a double edge sword on the same side rushing the passer there are good results. Garrett and Collins on the same side?
I ASSume this is true that it has been agreed on. Of course I have not seen it on the Official Browns Web Site. That link some have given is for Williams initial Press conference which if I remember did not say a word that we signed Collins or not???
I know many were angry that these guys didn't sign some of our key FA from last year but I do blame that on the preceding Regime and failure there.
So I am happy that our first guy we thought necessary to keep here is now signed.
Pryor and then I don't know who else is eligible for FA that we will keep. Greco? with a year ending IR injury...tough decision there.
Who else? McCown?

I wouldn't worry about Josh at this point. After Pryor, I'd work on Crow, Bitonio, and a few others we can now extend. That is how you get in to affordable deals.

Guarateed dollars will be interesting to ser I've noticed a trend that if you resign your own FA the guarantee for his level is almost always 35 to 45%. Only in FA do they really exceed that. So let's hope for 20 to 24 mil guaranteed

Now it's official. The Cleveland Browns and LB Jamie Collins Sr. have agreed to a new four-year contract. “We are going to be aggressive about acquiring talent, and when we had the opportunity to trade for Jamie back in October, it was done with the intent of him becoming a long-term part of our defense,” said Executive Vice President of Football Operations Sashi Brown. “Jamie has shown throughout his NFL career that he is a very talented player with a rare skill set that allows him to impact games in a number of ways. He’s a versatile, smart, competitive and physical football player who has experienced winning at the highest level. Jamie was great to have in our building this season, and we look forward to him being a Cleveland Brown for a number of years to come. We are counting on him to be a big part of us becoming a winning team.” “It’s no secret how I feel about Jamie Collins,” said Head Coach Hue Jackson. “He’s an outstanding football player and a guy we think can be part of the foundation of a tremendous defense. I was excited when we were able to trade for him last season, and now, I’m even more excited knowing that he is going to part of our future. We all know we have a lot of work to do to get our team where we feel it needs to be. Jamie wants to be a part of that. He wants to help build this team for success. He was outstanding in our locker room last year because he’s seen what success in the NFL looks like and our players respect the way he carries himself. We are all looking forward to him being a part of the success we plan to earn through our hard work and preparation.” “I want to thank the Cleveland Browns organization for giving me this opportunity,” Collins said. “From the day I walked in the door, I felt welcomed by my new teammates and everyone in this organization. The past is the past as far as last season’s record, but today is a new day. I’m only looking forward. I know we have a lot of work to do, and with Coach Hue leading us and the front office bringing in talent, I feel like we are going to get there and I feel good about continuing my career here.” A Pro Bowl selection, All-Pro honoree and Super Bowl champion, Collins was acquired from New England via trade on Oct. 31. He started all eight games with the Browns and totaled 69 tackles, seven tackles for a loss, two sacks and one forced fumble. In total for the 2016 season, he appeared in 15 games and logged 112 tackles, eight tackles for a loss, three sacks, two interceptions and two forced fumbles. Collins is 6-3, 250 pounds and entering his fifth NFL season out of Southern Mississippi. Originally selected by New England in the second round of the 2013 draft, he has appeared in 58 games with 49 starts. He has totaled 354 career tackles, 12.5 sacks, five interceptions, 11 forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries, one defensive touchdown and one blocked extra point. In 2015, he earned his first career Pro Bowl selection and was named to the Associated Press All-Pro second team. He led New England in tackles and played every defensive snap during the team’s win in Super Bowl XLIX. He led the Patriots in tackles in 2014 and 2015. http://www.clevelandbrowns.com/news/arti...56-e429348f86ba

Rapaport just tweeted 4 yr 50 mil 26 mil guaranteed. Little high in the guaranteed but a little lower total than I expected. Good deal and imo slightly below fair market.
