Good read, I expressed all of those same concerns when I came back on this forum and got met with a lot of ridicule for it. The concerns are there, but the kid has the potential to be very good, and more then likely will be the first overall pick. The good tape does outweigh the bad tape. Just hope he lives up to being that pick.

Just as aside note, I like it when the draft sites actually list or define the cons of a prospect as apposed to just mentioning all the pros. A lot of the draft experts on TV also do this.

I don't know where you've been looking, but every draft site I've looked at lists both the pros and the cons.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

I get that Garrett isn't the perfect prospect some make him out to be, but with the injury situation to Allen and lack of elite QB prospects I see no other realistic option for the Browns. He's the best player in the draft, and the upside is through the roof. It really is a no brainer at this point.

Before this thread gets closed I'd like to share something. Speaking about "Analytics" and Myles Garret, there is zero chance the Browns draft anyone else....

RAS is relative Athletic score, I won't explain it because the man himself can do that in the link below (I would probably butcher it), but Myles Garret has a higher score than all of those above pro bowlers. Obviously it's not the bible but it's a useful tool in accumulating all of the different test that players go through at the combine.

Basically what I am saying is that you shouldn't pass on a generational athlete with the on feild production that Garret had.

https://relativeathleticscores.wordpress.com/2017/01/17/relative-athletic-score-tables/

....HOWEVER, why I was talking about Trubisky and this in the Trubusky thread is that Trubisky scored REALLY high on these. His athleticism is highly under rated.

Does he ever explain how he comes to his overall number? It all seems pretty random. I prefer the Mockdraftables site, it is more simple and easier to understand.

https://www.mockdraftable.com/player/myles-garrett?position=EDGE

For edge players Myles Garrett is in the 94th percentile for bench press, 96th percentile for broad jump, 98th percentile for vertical jump, 88th percentile for the 40, 78th percentile for hand size, 92nd percentile for arm length, 65th for weight, and 57th for height.

The players in the past that tested most similarly. You can also switch play around with it and see how Garrett compares to defensive ends, all defensive linemen, or everyone in the draft.

Absolutely agree. To me, there's nobody else we should take at #1 that isn't Myles Garrett. It's not like he's coming here to work under Jimmy O'Niel where when Mike tried to get involved a bit more on the offense, we had a crappy called game and players consistently assigned with tasks that were clearly beyond day not fitting to their skillsets - Williams and Simmons (d-line coach) worked together before in LA and maybe beyond.

He'd be given a solid chance, IMO anyway, to get the assets and resources needed to start tapping into that, what some say, unlimited sky high potential.

I'm actually going to be overly upset if we don't take him at this point. Overly upset for me would be a lot of upset too factoring how my opinion on our drafting over these last few years being so angry lol.

Trubisky is an Elite Qb prospect....so elite in fact that Shanahan in SF(Who knows QB's) will use the #2 overlal on him if we don't take him....just keep that in mind.

Myles Garrett - DL - Player

Browns coach Hue Jackson says the team has no interest in trading the No. 1 overall pick.
"No," coach Hue Jackson said. "I can tell you no on that one." The Browns appear to be zeroing in on Texas A&M edge rusher Myles Garrett, a player they've reportedly assigned an "astronomical grade," and believe can be an "immediate franchise-changer." If Cleveland addresses quarterback on Day 1, it will be at No. 12, or after a trade up.

I continue to stand pat, Trubisky is the guy for the Browns, not Garrett. Trubksiy will not be there at #12, either we take him at #1 or he gone to San Fran at #2.

The sports radio out of San Fran is all the buzz about how the 49ers are taking Trubkisky because he is expected to be there.

Hopefully, after Trubs knocks it out of the park at his rivate workout for the Browns, Sashi, and Hue pull rank on the media and take Trubs on draft day. He will be the 1st viable QB we have had since Sipe/Kosar....and it will be the 1st step towards turning this pitiful organization around.

I like trub but if we pass on Garrett to take trub at #1 then I am probably done until the next reset because it would be obvious at that point that no matter how many draft picks they accumulate they simply don't know how to draft.

I am like 99% sure they draft Garrett though because I just don't believe they would be so incompetent as to pass on the best player in the draft. I mean it's not even really close.

I think there is a decent chance that Mitch will be there close to our 2nd pick.

QBs get the early hype.

Please stop making things up.

With that said, if you have a link that says that Shanny said he wants to take Trub w/the second overall pick, I will certainly apologize for calling you out.

I agree. I think the QBs fall to the bottom of the round or in to the 2nd round.

You've got to know there are a lot of teams hoping that QBs start falling off the board early.

Not only did he perform well (again), but he answered every question perfectly in the press conference afterwards.

This is not that hard. Pick Myles Garrett.

Maybe someone can answer me this: During a press conference Sashi was saying we all had to wait because they still have not made up their mind. I find this very hard to believe. Not only that but he also said that there were several players they were looking at??? Who? I can see a QB there but who would be the other one? Thomas?

I think also - we draft the obvious #1 prospect. If he doesn't work out for whatever reason, no one will pan the FO for making the pick. It's safe in every single aspect of everything. I personally feel that we have a really good defense blossoming after this draft if we pick right. MG at #1 is the safe choice. The only sane choice IMHO.

EDIT: And I love me some Solomon Thomas too. Garrett and him - man. I need to stop dreaming...

This fella on Reddit summed it up perfectly for me, so no sense me re-typing it

Quote:

https://www.reddit.com/r/NFL_Draft/comme...t_is_overrated/

Now, before ya'll kick off - I'm not saying I think he's a bad player. I also promise I'm not saying this just to be controversial. But the fact that I have to lead off with that caveat is basically the point I'm making: everywhere you look you see this guy pegged at number 1 overall, and I don't see that when I watch him. First round pick? Absolutely. But not the consensus number one overall player.

He's obviously a great athlete with prototypical size, but we've seen more quickness and more power in similar packages. I don't think he has the quickness of Clowney or Miller or the power of Bosa or Mack, and to me that's one of the first reasons to start thinking he's not this Madden create-a-player prospect so many people are acting like. He's got the size, length, athleticism and the stats, but I don't see it show up in quite the right way for me to think he's this slam-dunk All-Pro player - which if you're the player at the top of 90% of mock drafts and have the nfl.com's highest prospect grade ever, you should be.

Maybe I haven't watched enough tape yet (feel free to show me a game where he's at his best), but he disappears to often, too often gets washed out of the running game, too often gets handled by Day 2 players. I came away much more impressed with Cam Robinson and Evan Engram when I watched their games vs Texas A&M. I've definitely seen Garrett do some cool things. There's no doubt he's a special athlete, but I'd like to see more intensity and power from a player that size (and if there's video evidence of this I'm missing - then I think he needs to turn it on more consistently).

And I don't usually like to make statistical arguments about prospects, preferring to point to the tape - but I went through Garrett's game logs and his sack production was a little weird.

Over half his sacks this year (8.5) came in one game vs Texas-San Antonio (4.5 sacks). Only recorded a sack in 3 of his 9 other games.

Last year (2015), he had a single sack in 6 games, but the rest of his production came in only 2 games against very mediocre teams: 5.5 sacks vs Nevada and Arizona State.

In 2014, he had 11.5 sacks - with 8 of those coming against Louisiana-Monroe, Rice, and Lamar.

His career sack totals are noticably inflated by big games vs inferior opponents. Now, of course he should play well against lesser competition. My issue is that if he's supposed to be the obvious best player in the whole draft, where is his signature game against top competition? Clowney had a 4.5 sack game vs Clemson in the 2012 ACC finale. Khalil Mack was on another level in Buffalo's 2013 season-opener vs Ohio State, recording 9 tackles, 2.5 sacks and a pick 6. Joey Bosa had 5 multi-sack games against Power 5 schools during his Big 10 DPOY 2014, and while his numbers dipped in 2015, he was still very disruptive on film and more of that could be attributed to scheme, as he was also an excellent run defender - something I feel like I've yet to see with Garrett.

I'm just spitballing a bit here, but for all the hype around Garrett I thought it'd be easier to find some dominant game tape. Does he have splash moments? Absolutely. But I've yet to see him wreck a game against NFL-caliber opposition. So I'm wondering if anyone else is thinking along similar lines, or if I just haven't found the right games to watch (but I mean... if he's the number 1 overall player, that should show up against the likes of Ole Miss and Alabama...).

Simply put, the guy disappears against top competition. Furthermore, he lacks heart...if the play isn't coming in his direction he either takes the play off, loafs, or doesn't give 100% effort and thats a BIG problem....either a guy works his tail off 100% of the time all the time, or im not interested in him...

it doesn't matter if the play is happening on the other field...you get told how to do it right, you see how to do it, right and you do it right period! Garrett has shown thats not the case.

The more i look at the draft, the more i think the Browns should trade out of #1 and move down 2-3 spots. This draft is so deep on defense, and without a top QB prospect(I think Trub is, but i can also understand not wanting to use the #1 on a guy with 13 starts) you move down and get value.

Garret has just as much bust potential as some of the QB in this draft....if we move down we can secure a guy thats less likely to be a bust such as Hooker....Hooker is a very safe pick for the Browns especially if they move down a few spots...the chances of Hooker not working out are nearly zero...We tried very hard to get Richardson, but he chose Baltimore...we need help at safety almost more then any other position on the team, and Hooker is a play maker that will come in day one and make a huge impact for this team.

Simply put, with the Browns draft history in recent years, we need to make the safe pick until we get our feet under us...and the safe pick is moving down and taking Hooker....i know some won't like that, I don't like the fact how the Qb situation has come out this draft...but Garrett makes me VERY uneasy....every fiber of my being tell me to stay away, and when i get these feelings im rarely wrong.

Hooker could be our Ed Reed...the guy is a big time playmaker...our secondary is far weaker then our DL...its just my thoughts. take them for what you will...Garret is by no means the sure thing the media and scouts pundits want you to think...

I'll be honest: I haven't seen him enough to have an opinion. Plus, I'm not great when it comes to evaluating DL talent and how it transfers to NFL talent.

It seems pretty much consensus that he's the best prospect. I rarely read anyone who thinks differently. So I just have to trust that.

I'm likely in the minority with you but I agree.
If I couldn't trade down I just might would still take Hooker. Something just don't sit right with me while I watch and evaluate Garrett.

It really isn't complicated with Garrett.

1) 3 years of production. You can rightfully nit-pick his production this year and say that it came in a few games against lesser competition. But if the intent is to be fair then you also have to admit that he playing most of this year with a bum ankle AND most offenses now they better account for him. IF you wanted to sell the point that he eats only off of lesser comp then prove it for 3 years.

2) He is a physical freak. I don't really need to explain this any further.

I happen to like Jonathan Allen but he's not the freaky athlete like Garrett.

He's a really good player ... but when u watch his film ... there's plays where u go ...

HOLY F'N COW .... and your amazed at what u just saw .... then there's all the other plays ...

And no menzas ... i don't expect him to be a stud every play ... go watch the tape as opposed to re-gurgitate what the "experts" say and you'll see what i mean ..

Once i started watching his tape ... his stock went down ... it went down enough that i would now take Mitch at #1 ....

If not Mitch then i would still take Myles #1 ... hes still the best player in what many say is a very very deep draft .... with that said .... and i been saying this for awhile now ...

Many of U are going to be dissapointed in Myles .,.. his tape does not equal the praise he's getting ....

U see the phrase .... production over 3 years a lot ... u hear about his great measurables (and they are) and then u go watch the tape .... 1 + 1 does not equal 2 after u watch the tape ...

MG may be exactly what the article says he is but we have a DC in Greg Williams that won't accept him taking plays off etc. I think he will push MG to be the best he can be and not accept anything less than 100% effort.

I think Hooker is the best pick for this team (Nothing against Garrett) we need that center fielder, or even that enforcer which is Jamal Adams. Hooker can be both so thats why I would take him over Adams ... JMHO

Well it would be SO Browns to pass on the consensus #1 pick - earmarked as a generational talent with great talent and personal ethics ..... and watch him stud out for another team.
