Well they aren't doing anything that actually helps the situation.

So far the only good thing is that they are keeping the preexisting condition part..... for now.

But there's gonna be a ton of people in the very states that voted for trump losing their coverage. And that's just THIS version of the bill. For all we know, they might start removing more parts.

Like most people, I haven't had nearly enough time to digest this yet, I've just heard a few talking heads discussing it... but as I understand it, it doesn't address a few of the key things he said he wanted, specifically:

-Insurance companies competing across state lines
-Pharmaceutical companies being more transparent and competitive bidding

Not for nothing and in all fairness, Trump tweeted that there is 2 more phases to be announced soon. I can't remember which is which, but the two phases address those two items.

Remember, Trump said ALL people will have access regardless of anything else.

That's really the biggest thing.. For me it's moot, I'm on Medicare and I have a supplement plan (thank goodness, what a great system and what a bargin)

Not sure why he tweeted and didn't just come out and say it in a press conference but it's Trump... What do you expect.

Personally, I think he's hiding because of the big screw up on Saturday and all the push back he's getting...we'll see.

I hope so. I also hope that democrats, rather than just digging in their heels and saying no, can find some good in it.. and I hope both sides are willing to work to negotiate a solution with what they like and don't like, and arrive at some common ground... As an example... I just had a small OP surgery. Was given a post op pain management injection. Hospital billed insurance $2100 for the injection. The insurance plan contracted and paid $1200. The retail price for a 10 dose vial of the injection was $285...for a 10 DOSE vial. Hospital is gonna make $12,00 for something they bought for $285?

More affordable healthcare?

This bill contains a provision that makes it even worse for those without insurance. You could be healthy without months for insurance, but then you might need it. Under the new plan you'd get insurance, but you'd pay 30% more for insurance due to not having any the months prior. This is the penalty under the new plan.

Healthcare won't work if everyone can sign up a week before they go into surgery. It works when everyone is in it and some need surgery while others never do. It is not welfare, its healthcare.

Actually, healthcare is the interaction of a patient and Dr and procedures tied to that relationship. Health Insurance is a mechanism to pay for that interaction. Health Insurance is not Health Care. We would be wise to differentiate between the two.

By the looks of it, some republicans are having issues with it.

It's online and you can look at the details... Not sure of the link.

Said it before and I'll say it again, if it'd an improvement over the ACA, I'll support it.

I think you missed my point.. my point was that the consumers of media have, over time, switched from actually wanting objective news to wanting news that fuels their fears and feeds their egos. That's why the news that is politically aligned has prospered while anything resembling objective news has struggled.

I wasn't blaming Trump at all because you are correct, this cycle has been going on for decades.. the news gets a little biased, folks eat it up, the more biased it gets, the more people want to consume... If it were possible to hire a staff and create a totally objective source of news and information, you would be out of business within a year... nobody wants it.

So there are 2 or 3 plans out there right now. The one that the house and Paul Ryan support, the one that is sponsored by Rand Paul, and I think there's a 3rd one.

Rand Paul's is a complete repeal and a replace, keeping absolutely nothing from the ACA. Paul is calling the GOP's plan "republican lite"

Republican governors complain about GOP health care plan

https://www.yahoo.com/news/republican-governors-complain-gop-health-care-plan-063937626.html

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Republican governors complain that a GOP proposal to replace former President Barack Obama's health care law would force millions of lower-income earners off insurance rolls or stick states with the cost of keeping them covered.

Governors, especially those from political battleground states, were generally cool to the bill put forth in the Republican-controlled U.S. House. Some signaled that they would continue working on their own legislation to compete with the measure introduced Monday.

"We've said all along, 'Work with the governors,' that it should be a governor-led effort and for the Congress to rely on the governors," Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval said Tuesday. "Well, they came out with their own bill, which doesn't include anything that the governors have talked about."

Republican governors lead 33 states, across all regions, and represent states pivotal to President Donald Trump's victory in November, including much of the upper Midwest. Their role in the health care debate could influence the biggest public policy changes this year and help determine the party's future.

At the heart of their criticisms is that the House plan would jeopardize coverage for roughly 11 million people covered through the Affordable Care Act's Medicaid expansion. The law allowed states to expand Medicaid to cover more low-income individuals and their families at costs borne largely by the federal government.

Phasing out the federal supplement for Medicaid would hit hardest in states where governors chose to participate in the expansion, such as Michigan, Nevada and Ohio. The House bill's provision to shift the federal Medicaid commitment to those states would shrink the number of people eligible for coverage and require states to drop people from coverage or risk incurring huge costs rapidly to keep them enrolled.

"Phasing out Medicaid coverage without a viable alternative is counterproductive and unnecessarily puts at risk our ability to treat the drug-addicted, mentally ill and working poor who now have access to a stable source of care," said Gov. John Kasich of Ohio.

Michigan, Nevada and Ohio alone have added a combined 2 million to Medicaid's enrollment since that part of the law took effect in 2014.

The GOP governors expressed some of the same reservations as Democratic governors in states that expanded Medicaid, fretting about higher costs and fewer people covered.

West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice, a Democrat, warned against any health measure that kicks residents off Medicaid and leaves them "in the cold." The state has been carried by Republican presidential nominees for the past five elections and has added 175,000 residents to Medicaid coverage.

Another problem some Republican governors see with the bill is in converting Medicaid coverage from an open-ended federal entitlement to one that operates under a per-capita cap. A cap would not account, for instance, for rapidly rising drug costs, a big part of a state's Medicaid budget. GOP governors have suggested that any change in the law should give them more autonomy to account for such changes.

"I would have liked to have seen more flexibility being given to the states," Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson told reporters Tuesday. "I'm going to continue to look at that."

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker echoed the more muted response from his peers, calling the House bill "an important first step."

"We will continue working with the Trump administration, the Congress and governors across the country, as we seek a personalized, patient-centered plan that treats people as humans and not like numbers," he added.

Walker, as chairman of the Republican Governors Association, has been working with governors such as Kasich to draft a proposal that would effectively put states in charge of their Medicaid programs but require the federal government to continue financing them.

The governors' alternative could become a viable measure in the legislative debate, should it gain Senate sponsorship. The governors working on it have met with senators and staff on the Senate Finance Committee.

Ohio Sen. Rob Portman is already sounding some of Kasich's concerns. In a letter sent Monday to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, Portman wrote that House legislation "does not provide stability and certainty for individuals and families in Medicaid expansion programs or the necessary flexibility for states."

And from Bernies plans on price controls we are just a few short years from the feds dictating how much anyone person can charge for anything that they do because everything should be attainable to all segments of society. $200k dollar houses can be had by all if everyone in the housing market picture was paid minimum wage from the contractor and staff, to architects all the way down to lumber and material suppliers.

When corporate greed is out of control and going unchecked, you need a little price capping every now and then. But you have no clue about Bernie's platform other than what you've read in memes and seen on conservative news, that is obvious.

If you take the time to actually listen to the man you might find yourself agreeing to a little bit of what he says. Almost every Republican friend I have says they like some part of his platform.

It would be nice for the Dems to come up with their own tweaked version of the ACA as a counter, but right now the Dems have practically no leadership. Rebuild mode. All well.

The Dems have no power because they won't follow the progressives and keep holding onto the neoconservative corporatist platform. They will all be getting primaried very soon. The Bernie side keeps growing every day.

I am ok with price controls in the areas of healthcare and education because these industries are way out of control and negatively impact too many people.

Beyond that my inner libertarian says the govt should not touch it.

And this is the rub I have with Rand Pauls plan. He is basically a libertarian and wants to replace the ACA with HSAs and nothing else. Any sick person knows this wont work.

I might have missed something since last night. Trump last night tweeted to Rand Paul to get his troops in line with this plan and then late it was reported that the bill was being shuffled back and forth between committee to see how much "the Obamalite bill" could be adapted before the 4 in the senate would vote for it. They are not looking for additional phases to add more help in for the poor or even to wait for the CBO score. Rand Paul wants to cut plenty more subsidies out of the bill. they want to get the bill through and to Trump before next Monday when the CBO score comes. And Trump was reported last night with some repub house members that he would definitely sign the bill if it were presented. And the repubs are already bashing the Congressional Budget Office.

NPR did a review of a couple different people last night. They talked about a 60 yr old man in Mobile who made 40k last year. Under the ACA, he would get about $10,200 to purchase healthcare, under the repubs plan 4,000.

Trump has already laid out what he would accept for a healthcare plan.

-Must be a better plan than ObamaCare.
-Must cover everyone in America.
-Must be affordable to all Americans.
-Must cost less than ObamaCare.
-Must cover preexisting conditions.

Does anyone have a plan that covers those things ready for his desk?

Nope. However, he just endorsed the bill the house introduced. So what he wants and what he's endorsing isn't lining up.
