I'm very excited by this signing! This is a HUGE upgrade for us and eliminates the need to draft o-line in a draft with not so great talent at o-line. I'm very happy how things are looking atm!

I don't know who are starting RT will be. Greco or Coleman is my guess at the moment..... With that said - Zeitler and Bitinio are WAYYYYYYY better at their positions than Schwartz is/was...... As it happens - Schwartz graded out BARELY above the highest player the Browns had graded at the position last year (Source - Pro Football Focus).

At what point in time - amongst all the positive signings and re-signings - do we let the Schwartz thing go ???

I didn't think we needed a guard, but this guy is a good player from what I understand.

I am happy that we are addressing the OL in FA rather than the draft. I had been championing that cause for awhile now.

Things are looking up.

Now, we just need to:

--re-sign Pryor
--trade for Jimmy G
--draft Garrett
--upgrade secondary in draft.

And we're talking playoffs in a couple of years.

As un-optimistic as I usually am, you're right. This plan could get there in a couple of years.

I was kinda down we didn't address the DBs in free agency (according to mac free agency is over) but then as some have pointed out on the board, this draft is strong with DBs. We can easily grab 2-3 in the draft. Good ones. In a couple of years the D backfield could be light years from that crapfest of last year.

Hitting the OL in FA is making some sense. As has been mentioned, OL is weaker in this draft. So fix it in FA. C was a big weakness. Now it seems RT is the hole.

Bitonio... eh, I dunno.

I guess that all depends on who you are and just how much of a mistake you thought that was. Right now we have seemed to address everything but the RT position when most thought that was a much bigger need this off season.

Yes, we have some projects, but no answer. I can just imagine how much better off we would be now if Scwartz was on the roster. If you don't, no big deal. I'm not trying to tell you how to think.

Oh no! The browns just traded for Osweiler!!!!!!!!

We are getting a 2nd rounder to take on his contract for this year. Houston did it as a salary dump.

Pryor is a nice player, but he and his agent need to come to grips, he isn't that good.

My neighbor is a BIG Beagles Fan and he's more than a bit pissed they let Zeitler get away.
It's a Great Move for the Brown's OL.

Apparently they never even offered him a contract.

The Bengals offense is going down the crapper.

They lost Jones, Sanu, Zeitler, Andre Smith, and Whitworth in the last two off-seasons. That's a lot of talent out the door.

Yeah and they aren't going to replace the oline in this year's draft either.

Dalton is a sell for any fantasy football guys out there.

They drafted guys in the first and second round a couple of years ago (Cedric [I am too lazy to look up how to spell his last name] and Jake Fisher). If they don't work out they are screwed. But they do draft pretty well and will sign a guy or two later in the off-season.

Zeitler alone is 10 times the Guard that Schwartz is the RT...maybe more than 10 x

In your guys' opinion, is he good enough that he could compensate for any shortcomings at RT if we find ourselves rolling with Coleman/Paztor/Erving?

I certainly think so...although I'd be getting 'over my skis' if I tried to get into details of OL assignments and such.

The revolving door at C last year caused a revolving door at RG which could have had a tremendous impact on Pasztor. I think all three of the guys you mentioned could be serviceable at RT with a stud next to them. I think the coaches really like Coleman.

I think 10 times is an exaggeration - but Zeitler is a top 10 player at his position (OG). Maybe top 5..... Schwartz is a top 30 player at his position (OT). There is a very significant difference in ability.

That's a hell of a line. You can always make up for ONE deficient spot (given that RT will not be a great player) with scheme/TE play.

Agree 100% - I do not think you need a star at every single OL position.

I hope they let Coleman get the first shot at RT. Mostly because it would lead me to believe that they plan on running the ball more. Not that signing Zeitler didn't already indicate that.

Schwartz was ranked the 2nd best RT in the NFL a couple of years ago. Are you saying he fell from 2nd to 30th?

My post is actually supporting Schwartz level of play compared to the posts I responded to. Other posters said Zeitler was 10x better at his position than Schwartz. I said that was an exaggeration ... but you choose me to poke and try to antagonize. Nice.

From PFF - Zeitler is rated the 7th best OG in the NFL based on last season. That's top 10.

Schwartz is rated the 27th best OT in the NFL - that's top 30.

That's true. It's why I said OT and not RT.

So you are comparing Schwartz to left tackles. That is not his position.

Last year, Pro Football Focus rated him as the NFL’s second-best right tackle. Considering where the Chiefs are coming from, the addition of Schwartz means going from one of the worst three right-tackle situations in football to one of the best three.
