In sales, I've been in the roughest black neighborhoods and the deep sticks. People are people if you treat them right.

But I've also been to a Klan rally (as an observer) and you can't take the hate out of those people. And many believe that crap that don't wear a hood, so it is definitely more common than anybody cares to admit.

On the flip side, I've been called "Five-O" for just driving into the hood with a suit on. I've been called "cracker" because I'm white. So there is an opposite to the bedsheet mentality as well.

One day, maybe people will just see people. Not skin color, financial status or religion... Until then we still get to laugh about Trump's Follies!

In Georgia, Theres a church on every corner everywhere. Not just in the sticks. The south is hardcore religious.

I was just glad my county started allowing alcohol sales on sundays. For the longest time watching football with beer either meant going to a bar or planning.

I don't complain about anyone talking shop. It's actually what threads are for. I actually hate posters who ruin threads by getting all meta and hypercontextual because people don't like their ideas criticized so they criticize others. There's a complete difference between the two. I understand that both parties tend to insult each other. But I can deal with some insults from people who want to discuss the topic with me.

I certainly see where you're coming from. However, this is just an internet message board. There's not much room for growth or need for it. Quite frankly, most of my posts on here are quips and jokes. I mean no one any ill will towards anyone on this forum no matter what I post. I love being part of this community. If I didn't I wouldn't be part of it, I'd leave. One of the things I love most about this community is how frank we are with each other. No one has thin skin. You can insult someone on here, to the point that you're suspended, and then have them whole heartily agree with you in another thread with no animosity. It's honestly a blessing to find such a diverse community, willing to talk about so many things, without fearing repercussions of someone following someone into a thread. Now I've modded a lot of online communities, and it's not the same elsewhere. A lot of places you have posters essentially becoming their previous posts. They have no room for growth because people ridicule them for stuff they posted in the past. Here, it's completely different. There's a strong sense of community, even if it's not always shown in the thread. We all care about each other to a pretty large extent. Most threads that aren't political can prove that fact within the first 5 posts. We both know how the community comes together when things are bad. For a community rather splintered, we're usually a pretty unified front on a lot of things. I think our fractures really add to the beauty of this forum. It reminds me a lot of stain glassed windows in a super old church. Where every piece of the mosaic adds to the overall beauty.

It's always fun to come across a well-worded analogy.

I realize I am kinda radical. I'm so into making positive changes in society that I sometimes get consumed by it and I admit that I get frustrated w/all the negativity in the world and on the board.

I am going to say something and I don't want it to be misconstrued. I am only saying this because I am older than you and have more experience and want to give you something to think about.

I actually think you are more intelligent than I am. I see great potential in you. CHS, you can make a huge difference in the lives of others.

When I was your age, I was radical in regards to protesting the injustices of the world. I spent a great deal of time and passion on fighting those injustices. The net rewards were minimal.

Eventually, I learned that I could do more good by doing good. I know you'll get that, just like you got all the stuff Joe Thomas was saying...you have awesome reading comprehension skills.

When all is said and done..........what do you want to be known for? Stirring up trouble and furthering the divide or helping others and bridging gaps?

I know you have the ability to help a huge amount of people. I have hope for a few of you..........Swish is another one. I love how he is starting a weekly good news thread.

We all make a difference in our world. It's up to us if we want that to be a positive difference or be part of the same old, narrow-minded, stone-throwing majority.
