Thought it was time for a WR thread. Especially now since we cut Pryor, I wouldn't be surprised if we took a WR early this year. So here's a thread to the class in general. I have a few notes and rankings I'll share later to add, but I don't want to monopolize the thread too much. So please share
After Chris Godwin's great combine, I went digging in his film and I came away impressed. I'm linking his game against USC to begin with. Adoree Jackson lines up across from him a fair amount. The kid has good hands and his QB certainly tests those hands. I was really surprised with how good he was at making adjustments and his pitbull attitude in downfield blocking. We would first have to find someone willing to give up a 1st to move to 12. Not likely to be easy. And we'd have to fall pretty far from 12 to get a 1st in return. I'd just as soon stay there and get an impact DB. We need one of them more than we need a WR.
I watched Godwin in a couple games this year, and like what I saw. Frankly I dind't think he was as fast as he ran at the combine. He's on my short list of recievers I'd be ok with.

The Browns drafted 5 wrs last year, including the Browns 1st round pick, selecting Cory Colman..why would they have to use another draft pick on a WR?
Might be better to focus on defensive needs, imo.
Because... 1) Despite drafting 4 WRs last year, only one looks like he can step on the field. 2) This is the best WR class in a minute 3) We just lost our #1 WR

For several reasons: best player available strategy, although "5" WRs were drafted only 1 was drafted with a premium pick where immediate contribution is expected, the roster still needs WR talent/depth

After watching a bit more on John Ross, I think he'll be the best WR of the group. He's just too fast at the top end and in his cuts.
I would consider Samuel but not in round 1 n 2...unless the kid has stone for hands...I think he could be a play maker and definitely return kicks for us!

The more I watch of the kid, the more I like JuJu Smith-Schuster. A smart kid who is a very physical WR. He certainly wouldn't be a first round pick but I believe he may have good value if he's there at #52 or #65.
People may wish to look at who his QB's were as it pertains to the present and possibly the future.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.
My WR list is alike......the top 3 is shuffled a bit, but the rest is real accurate. I'm with you on Jones and Godwin, and think they have the most value in the draft if they go where they are currently projected.

Browns check in on UA receiver Jerome Lane at pro day By George M. Thomas Beacon Journal sports writer
Like 19 other NFL teams, the Browns sent a scout to check out the University of Akron football team’s pro day at Stile Athletics Field House on Friday morning.
The Browns also sent Al Saunders, senior offensive assistant and wide receivers coach. Saunders spent a significant amount of time (about 15-20 minutes) with UA wide receiver Jerome Lane Jr., who participated in selected drills. The two spoke during breaks in the action.
“It was huge,” Lane said of the Saunders conversation. “A lot of it was him getting to know what type of player I am.” Without divulging details, Lane said Saunders wanted to get a gauge of his work ethic and other qualities. The fact that Saunders made an appearance is significant.
The Browns are in an interesting situation at the wide receiver position. They allowed Terrelle Pryor to leave in free agency and released Andrew Hawkins by mutual agreement. They signed Kenny Britt to a four-year, $32.5 million deal. After drafting four receivers in last year’s draft, Corey Coleman was the only one to flash some skills. There hasn’t been success yet with the Browns, but there is the opportunity to contribute for players willing to work.
“I do sense an opportunity there,” Lane said. “A lot of people don’t want to go to the Browns, but that would be a great fit for me if I can come in and show everyone what I can do. The opportunity there is a little greater than other teams, so I can come there, show up and show out and do it.”
Lane was the only prospective NFL player from the University of Akron who appeared at the league’s combine earlier this month in Indianapolis. The Firestone graduate had hopes to improve on his performance in certain areas. After saying he’d beat his 40-yard dash time from the combine, he elected not to run it.
“The 40 isn’t that big to me. I work to try to impress the scouts,” he said. “I’m more of a game player; my game speed shows up.”
He improved slightly on his vertical jump, moving the needle from 35 inches to 37. He also expressed confidence in the routes he ran and passes he caught from former Zips backup quarterback Matt Hoyer.
“It was a little better than the combine. Now I just want to work on getting out of my breaks better,” he said. Lane knows that he’s not where he wants to be.
“I felt this workout went a lot better than the combine workout. I’m still not 100 percent on it,” he said. “There are still some things I didn’t like a little bit, but it was all in all good.”

There are several Zips who could get looks from NFL teams based on their performances. UA fans should keep a look out for Canton’s Se’Von Pittman and Jamal Marcus especially.

I certainly think he's probably the best slot WR in the draft. I like his hands a fair bit, but I'm not sure he'll go and grab a 50/50 ball like Mike Williams will do. My biggest pet peeve with Juju is how deadly he can be in open space vs. how deadly he actually is. I think a lot of the time he'll try to make a guy miss and get tackled by the crowd. He'd do much better with just trying to beat that man in a quick move and keep away from the crowd. Instead he's wont to juke 7 yards in a direction and get hit by a LBer.

Neither does my PC. It constantly jumps up and down trying desperately to come up with something for you to click on other than the story you wanted in the first place. After five or six unsuccessful attempts to read the story, I gave up.
LA Times, Chicago Tribune and USA Today all seem to hate their online readers.

Clay Helton lost control of the program after the first couple games. It was at that point where people were saying he should be fired midseason. Then they started Sam Darnold and everything was magically okay.
