Yeah.

That was a bad sign when Francona started holding Naquin back from facing left-handers.

That's not the sign of a good, young major leaguer.

Agreed. I think Tito likes how Gomes calls games, and is allowing him to work his way through his (extended) hitting slump. Perez did a great job last year when Gomes was out. I kind of thought he took the #1 spot from Gomes, but Tito be loyal.

That's the knock on Zimmer, can't hit LHP.

Gomes' slash line is .444/.500/.889 vs Kyle Gibson over his career. That's the reason Francona gave him another start last night. Hopefully, Gomes can build his confidence at the plate after some success last night. Not holding my breath, however.

I think it's safe to assume that Tomlin could be nearing the end of his major league career if he doesn't get seriously on track soon.

His ERA is 2.05.

Per Inning.

You can't keep a pitcher like this. Two earned runs allowed for every three outs? That's batting practice.

There's members of this Board that could do better.

I said last year he isn't MLB caliber starter...he throws too soft and too many strikes across hitters wheelhouse. He could be a matchup reliever..but I'm def. not convinced he's good enough to be a starter

This was all I could think of when he gave up 2 runs in the first.. tongue But then he settled down and pitched pretty well.

Not sure what happened in the 2nd, 7th, and 8th innings.. good grief, Indians, hit the ball.

j/c....

Quality start by Tomlin tonight. Started off shaky, but really settled down.

Nice to see Encarnacion swat a HR. Brantley continuing to look more comfortable at the plate.

Lindor and Ramirez continue to mash the ball.

Boone Logan K'd 3 batters.

Games not over yet, but nice to see a comfortable win.

Tribe up 11-4 in the 9th ......

Twins had a league leading 2.50 ERA coming into this game ...... and after 11 runs ..... it's almost 3.00.

Tomlin was brilliant. One of the finest performances in modern baseball history. Dropped his ERA almost a full 7 runs.

Did I ever mention how great Tomlin is?

It was GOOD to see Josh return ( even if just one game ) to his last season form .. Nice to hear the announcers talk about what a Team guy he is , even when he isn't on top of HIS game !

Tonight's the third televised Indians game of the year here in Connecticut (ESPN 8 pm EST)

That means a nap this late afternoon.

I've been having Rocket type luck so far this year: 2-0.

First time I get to see Bauer pitch.

Last night's televised (in CT via ESPN) game was postponed.

Last I knew, Minnesota had a domed stadium.

Nice win today and good outing by Bauer. Had a shakey 4th with the odd balk to boot and shook it off and pitched 2 1/3 more excellent innings.

Once we got Santana off the mound (he's allowed 2 runs in 4 starts) we were in good shape. While we only got 1 run we had quality at bats as he was at 116 pitches when he got pulled after 6.

That was a quick worst-to-first.

And with this rotation, it's nice to see the 4th and 5th starters pitch back-to-back wins.

Outstanding work tonight by Kluber.

Guyer got hist 1st HR of the year.

Brantley continues to come back to form.

Encarncaion striking out at a higher than normal rate is a bit concerning. Hopefully, that changes as the weather continues to warm.

Go Tribe!

I read an article recently, and it said that Encarnacion almost always starts out slowly.

If we get into the middle of May and he's still not hitting his stride, then maybe we can get a little concerned ....

I am shocked that Lindor turned down a fairly massive contract though. However, he's under team control for a long time to come ....so it's not a huge concern.

Francisco Lindor says it's not right time to sign extension with Cleveland Indians, but it could happen in future | cleveland.com
http://www.cleveland.com/tribe/index.ssf/2017/04/francisco_lindor_says_its_jot.html#incart_big-photo

CHICAGO -- Francisco Lindor says it's possible he'll sign a multiyear deal with the Indians at some time in the future. Just not now.

"Why not?" said Lindor before Friday's game against the White Sox. "Yeah, of course. When the right time comes. Is it the right time right now? I don't know. I don't think so.

"I'm just focusing on playing the game. Whatever is going to happen is going to happen."

In spring training the Indians tried to sign Lindor to an extension. The offer they made the 23-year-old shortstop was "substantial." from the team's point of view. Tom Verducci of Sports Illustrated reported that it was in the neighborhood of $100 million.

Whatever the number, Lindor said no. As for any continued negotiations this year, that's doubtful. The Indians aren't talking deal with Lindor or any other player on their roster.

"That's in the past," said Lindor, when asked about the negotiations on an extension. "To not cause any distractions, I'm focused on the game today and what is going to happen tomorrow. I'm not worried about what happened in the past.

"I'm all about winning. I'm all about doing what's right day in and day out and focusing on my job. That's what I'm doing right now."

Lindor started this season with one year and 113 days of service time. He's still not eligible for arbitration and won't be a free agent until after the 2021 season. By turning down an extension of that size, Lindor is not only betting on himself to continue to play at an All-Star level, but to avoid injury.

Regarding securing his future, Lindor said, "I've got my family. That's all I need in life. Everybody is healthy. I'm happy where I am. I'm happy with my team. Off the field I have my family, on the field I have my teammates. I know I'll be fine."

Lindor said he is not worried about injury.

"No, man, no, no," he said. "If you bring negative thoughts to your life it can affect you."

Lindor was the Indians' No.1 pick in 2014. They signed him to a $2.9 signing bonus. He also just signed a contract with New Balance to be the face of their baseball division. So perhaps the financial pull is not as strong with him as it might be for other young players.

As for weighing the offer the Indians made in spring training compared to what it could be in a year or two, Lindor said he's had help doing the math.

"That's when you make sure you have the right people around you - whether it's teammates, friends, family member or the agency you're with," said Lindor. "You've got to be around good people. That will lead you to success.

"I also believe in God. I trust God. Whatever happens is going to happen."

Dave Meter, Lindor's agent, would not comment when asked about the extension offer.

Lindor said he's in favor of the Indians' policy of signing their core players to multiyear deals. This spring they signed third baseman Jose Ramirez and catcher Roberto Perez to four-year extensions.

"I'm happy for them," said Lindor. "They're going to be in the organization for a long time. So am I. I still have four or five years, I don't even know how many years I have left. So I'll be here for a while with them, too.

"I'm happy. I'm happy I not only get to play with them, but with Michael Brantley, Jason Kipnis, Corey Kluber, Carlos Carrasco - all of them. They're all going to be here for a while."

Kluber had his way the entire game. Like a little kid with a vanilla ice cream cone. Complete game!

Encarnacion, I'm still waiting for him to get into rhythm. Kipnis came back and came back strong! At the early part there, it was like he was involved in every play!

All in all, great game to watch. Kluber was a MONSTER! He threw some nasty, I mean some real nasty ones there.

Kluber was on FIRE. Lindor is smart turning down that contract now. It'll be worth a lot more whenever he does decide to sign. He's only going to get better.

Really nice win tonight!

Brantley looks like he's back. He's playing really well.

Jose Ramirez is back at 3rd ... had a nice defensive play, and hit his 5th HR.

Encarnacion looks like he's starting to round into form.

Oh yeah, and Carrasco threw a gem tonight too. grin wink

Remember when the Indians hit that rough stretch, where they lost a few games in a row? How they are riding a 5 game win streak. laugh

We started slow. We knew it wasn't going to last. Seven in a row gets us back in the standing where we should have been. Now we can watch a lot of 3 and 4 game win streaks the next 4-5 months.

Yeah, for sure. Given how long he has been away from the game, it's a major credit to himself and an even larger credit for our team.

Edwin is starting to loosen up too now it appears. That pitcher made a mistake he just drilled that one. That's what we need from him.

Is it me, or were we just stealing bases left and right too?

I'd be a fool not to mention Carrasco, it was like watching Kulber just the night before.

How about Ramirez too? Whew he made some incredible plays at third base.

Fantastic game to watch.

And that sounds about right.

There is a old saying in baseball. Every team is going to win 60 games and every team is going to lose 60 games. What they do with the other 42 games tells the tale.

Three up, three down - top-of the first by Tomlin.

That puts him in the record books tied for the greatest first inning pitching performance all-time.

That stop by Lindor where he went to flip it up to Kipnis but it got stuck in his glove would've been huge, would've been what we needed and etc etc.

Then, Kipnis gets robbed of homer by that great jump. Perfectly timed jump and etc, but another play we needed.

Down two runs now.

How is it Kip struck out on a foul tip? Thought you couldn't get a strike on the tip that would be the 3rd strike.

WE DON'T NEED A QB BEFORE WE GET A LINE THAT CAN PROTECT HIM

Didn't see it, but, did the tip go directly off the bat at a sharp angle, and get caught by the catcher?

(directly back, like the bat just barely nicked the ball - not enough to make it go over the catchers mitt - basically, no arc.)

In fast pitch softball, that's a strike 3 as long as it's caught.
