Good for Brantley, seems like he's come up in the clutch a few times this year.

Our pitchers looked good, so did theirs. Our hitters looked bad, so did theirs.

But we just need to get better with RISP. Sad display the past few innings.

Play of the game was the Yandy Diaz diving catch at 3rd to save 2 runs in the 8th.

Eddie E has stop pressing and let the game come to him at the plate .. Naquin and Gomes both look lost at the plate /

Aside from tonight, I feel like Naquin has looked confident. Gomes looks completely lost though, like he has no confident in his swing anymore.

I also agree about Eddie pressing...just take what they're giving you and punish mistakes. Dude rolled over two outside pitches today to ground in to two easy DPs.

Pleasantly surprised by Diaz's glove over at 3rd base. He's made a ton of good plays so far and seems like he's competent at the plate. What do we do with him when Kip comes back?

Yandy is definitely going to make some decisions very difficult when Kip returns from injury.

Naquin is still Young at the plate , Consistency takes time . The problem will be in playing time .. I love the kid and have very high hopes for him .. Has a great opportunity by playing with Brantley .. I have zero answers when it comes to Gomes .

WTF is with Encarnacion and the outside pitch? It's like he doesn't realize his bat is only 42 inches long. flamingmad

Well not making excuses , but the ump's are taking up right where left off last season .. Who the devil can tell were the strike zone is ! They don't put the pitch tracker up as much as use to for a reason !

This not some rookie Team .. There is no discipline at the plate by hardly any of them .. This Kid Diaz is not ready for prime time at the plate ..

What a shame to waist fine pitching .. It's way early !

Disappointing loss.

On the bright-side:

Tribe is 4-4 after 6 road games only 2 home games.
Tribe is 4-1 against AL teams including 3-0 against last year's regular season AL team (Texas).

Of course it's time to fasten those seat belts with Tomlin and Bauer(?) pitching next two games.

Oh wow. Has Naquin been doing that bad? Or is he just caught in an outfield log-jam and he was the only one left with options?

There were rumors that Chisenhall would be active for the home opener this past Tuesday, but his inevitable return was delayed for a couple of days. But he was coming back this week at some point, and that point seems to be today. He will return just in time to be in the lineup tonight against RHP Miguel Gonzalez, and for good reason. Last season v. RHP, Chisentray slashed .295/.332/.451; he will resume his role as the second half of the two-headed ChisenGuyer monster that roams right field for the Cleveland Indians.

In order to make room for Chisenhall, Tyler Naquin is being optioned back to Columbus for the time being. Naquin has struggled at the plate so far this season, batting only .235/.278/.294. With the outfield crowded with Michael Brantley, Austin Jackson, Brandon Guyer, Abraham Almonte, Carlos Santana (does he count? Probably not but oh well) and now Lonnie Chisenhall, Naquin finds himself the odd man out. It was possible that Almonte would have been sent down at this point, but he has been much better at the plate than Naquin this season and he plays better defense in center field. Additionally, Naquin has an option to burn.

Nobody, that's why our team batting average is .206, 28th in the MLB.

I wanted Naquin on the team last year, when others questioned him.

I knew he'd hit for average, and figured his power would develop, and that he'd continue working on his defense up here.

Unfortunately, even his hitting has disappeared. He needs to go to Columbus and play every day, and find his stroke again. The same thing (in a way) happened to both Jose Ramirez and Lonnie Chisenhall. They both went back to the Minors, got their hitting straightened back out, played every day, and when they came back up, produced.

I do agree with you that nobody thus far is setting the world on fire at the plate, except for Lindor. However, hopefully Lonnie will come back with a somewhat reliable bat.

Yeah, it's been dismal at best at the plate. Need someone other than Lindor to start crushing some balls.

Well, in case no one noticed, and based on the response to the thread, there's a few of you .....

The Indians just destroyed Justin Verlander and the Tiggers today. (13-6)

Jose Ramirez hit 2 3-run homers, (6 RBI) and Lonnie Chisenhall (welcome back kid!) hit a 2 run today. Santana also had a 2 run jack today.

Encarnacion added a couple of defensive gems at 1st. I think the team is starting to get things turned around again.

A few points of interest on the season

You can bring drinks and snacks into the stadium. We currently house the third smallest ballpark in all of the majors.

Your attendance is pathetic. I don't care that our tv rating rivals that of St Louis, start going to games. Take the rapid, take an uber, take a family member, just go to the games.

Would rather see Perez behind the plate ( and at the plate ) ..

If Brantley makes it all the way back ( seeing signs ) Kip gets healed ,Jossy plays like last year ( off to good start ), Lindor will always show up : this is going to fun to watch ! All we can do is hope all hope that Eddie E comes around ..

Wonder if they will put Kip in the lead off spot ? 1-6 or 7 (if Lonnie stays hot ) could be a pitchers nightmare when ever they get hot at the plate ..

I wouldn't worry too much about Edwin. His splits for the month of April in the prior 3 years (2014/2015/2016) show a .239 avg, .303 OBP, and .397 slugging pct, for an OPS of .697 - that's bad. But those same numbers for the entire season for those same 3 seasons are .269/.361/.544 for an OPS of .905. He usually kicks it into gear in May.

yea Yan is done...flash in the pan, I think we will see perez as the everyday, and I wouldn't be surprised if we try to trade for one this year depending on his offense.

Any chance Josey stays at second and Kip moves to 3rd? Man, that dude can play. I'm not even loving the idea of losing Yandy, he's lighting up on the field too, but you gotta bring Kip back somewhere.

My dad and I were just talking about this. Any word on why they wouldn't consider bringing him up? He certainly cannot be worse than Gomes. On Saturday every player in the lineup had a hit except for him - 5AB and 4 strikeouts. Just awful.

Your going to get super streaky bats form Santana and Edwin ( that's just a given ) You need at least a 200 / 225 hitter behind the plate . Perez SHOULD squeeze that out ..

Catchers are such a defensive position though. You need a guy that can hold runners and call a good game with the pitcher. If they can bat over .200, then that's just a bonus.

I haven't heard much about Mejia defensively but I agree. Yan Gomes has a heck of an arm and keeps runners in check but his total lack of hitting makes him expendable now. Perez is perhaps one of the best pitch framers and has a solid arm too. His hitting isn't spectacular but it isn't putrid either. At least he seems to hit in clutch moments.

I'd much rather have a player like that than one who isn't good defensively at all. It's hard, Gomes needs to turn around his hitting so they probably should send him down since he has an option...however is it worth it at the expense of Mejia? Wish we could combine the two players.

Long story short, I'd rather ride it out with Perez and let Mejia work on D in the minors if that is true.

Plus, he smokes 'em when they try to steal.

I believe the thought process on Mejia within the Tribe organization is that he's not ready to call games in the big leagues. He needs some experience down in AA. He's been a fast riser in the organization, however.

there is, Naquinn isn't very good defensively either...he needs time.. He was thrown into the fire last year, by ASB he was done
