Off the top of my head, the average global temperature has risen somewhere between .8 and 1.4 degrees Celsius in the past 100 years. That's doesn't sound like much, but that is a rapid, and increasing rate of warmth. I've seen posts that mention thousands, even millions of years of climate data, that is unheard of in climatology, even paleoclimatology.

Yes the earth's temperature fluctuates naturally, just not this quickly, see the Great Barrier Reef on life support.

Science has proven the earth warms and cools, all by itself. It does, and has, ever since science started "tracking" it.

So, I can't tell you what science said 42 years ago because it doesn't fit what science is telling us now.

But, YOU can tell me what science tells us from 1000 years ago, to millions of years ago, and it's legit. Got it.

Look, I'm not in favor of dumping oil in our water supply. I like clean air, I am anti pollution.

And for it to be stated that a 1 or 2 degree rise in temps will doom the earth? I struggle to believe it will lead to what Al Gore says.

I don't have my head in the sand. But when I'm told that "what happened 42 years ago" is hog wash because science is better now, but I'm told what happened 1000 years ago is fact, I wonder.

Does that make sense?

I get the feeling that literally the only "educated" people on planet earth that don't believe in Anthropgenic climate change are the people I brought up in my first post. 98% of the most credible people on earth believe in anthropogenic climate change.

Others said "follow the money", big oil, coal, "who killed the electric car". I wasn't alive then, but sounds similar to big tobacco in the 70's.

Some scientists were calling for the spreading of coal dust on the poles in order to absorb heat from the Sun for the sake of our freezing planet.

While a few nutjobs did say that our planet was cooling in the 60's, in no way was it the consensus of scientists or even the majority of scientists.



There were not even 10 different peer reviewed articles about global cooling. Just because some people got triggered by their local newspaper, doesn't mean that science ever thought it was possible.

The global cooling scientists are probably a precursor to the climate denialists, both represent a very, very small group of people who conduct fringe and manipulated studies.

Like I said, I was there. They were teaching Global Cooling in school science classes, grade 8 thru 12.


In 1972, two scientists – George J. Kukla (of the Lamont-Doherty Geological Observatory) and R. K. Matthews (Chairman, Dept of Geological Sciences, Brown University) – wrote the following letter to President Nixon warning of the possibility of a new ice age:

As they review the bizarre and unpredictable weather pattern of the past several years, a growing number of scientists are beginning to suspect that many seemingly contradictory meteorological fluctuations are actually part of a global climatic upheaval. However widely the weather varies from place to place and time to time, when meteorologists take an average of temperatures around the globe they find that the atmosphere has been growing gradually cooler for the past three decades. The trend shows no indication of reversing. Climatological Cassandras are becoming increasingly apprehensive, for the weather aberrations they are studying may be the harbinger of another ice age.

Whatever the cause of the cooling trend, its effects could be extremely serious, if not catastrophic. Scientists figure that only a 1% decrease in the amount of sunlight hitting the earth’s surface could tip the climatic balance, and cool the planet enough to send it sliding down the road to another ice age within only a few hundred years.

Climatologists are pessimistic that political leaders will take any positive action to compensate for the climatic change, or even to allay its effects. They concede that some of the more spectacular solutions proposed, such as melting the Arctic ice cap by covering it with black soot or diverting arctic rivers, might create problems far greater than those they solve. But the scientists see few signs that government leaders anywhere are even prepared to take the simple measures of stockpiling food or of introducing the variables of climatic uncertainty into economic projections of future food supplies. The longer the planners delay, the more difficult will they find it to cope with climatic change once the results become grim reality.

I'm glad I finally got some names of these world renowned scientists who believed that an ice age was coming. So instead of relying on the narrative of you or a local newspaper no longer in circulation, we can see what they were saying. Also, I couldn't find anything on R.K. Matthews or what his initials mean. Not saying he doesn't exist. But he might have gone into hiding after such a theory.

So George Kukla was born in Prague and worked for the communists for most of his life. He got accepted into Colombia after the lobbying work of the founder of modern climate change. A year later he publishes this report. He also married and impregnated his sister. So why should we listen to a politicized scientist? He kinda smells like Trofim Lysenko if you ask me...

The best part of reading about him was this little gem:

"At a symposium he organized at Columbia in 2000, he lengthened the time frame and put the coming ice age at 5,000 years from now. "

I also saw that he published at least one more piece in the 70's. So he compromises 1/4th of the scientific literature on global cooling.

We have half a century worth of data that points to global warming and that data only gets larger and larger by the day. How much science will need to happen before people "get it"?

I can post lists of names of scientists and organizations who warned the world of global cooling and the coming ice age but why?

You guys like the taste of the Koolaid they are feeding you and my scientific evidence from the 1970's will only fall on your deaf ears.

King, we all get along just fine. Eve, 40 and I have the deepest respect for each other outside of the political forums. We've already moved our quarrels to the back of the bus for you, what else do you want? Maybe you would like to take away our right to free speech?

We have just how much data proving that for thousands of years the earth has warmed and cooled without the help of man. Why is it you want to ignore that and only worry about 50 years? If man kind were wiped out by a virus next year do you think the earths climate wouldn't continue to change?

Who said anything about ignoring it? It's actually provided a great baseline to see that we're causing global warming. The Earth has never warmed so quickly than it has in the past 50 years and we also know that CO2 has never been higher in our atmosphere.



We also can see that temperature increases are correlated to CO2.



Look at the rate of change in the temperature.

So the Earth has never been warmer in human recorded history or since the Earth had a stable revolution around the sun.

That bottom graph is quite interesting. It shows the earth has warmed and cooled fairly consistently over the last 375,000 years.
