I am thankful that we not only picked the BPA but we got the best player in the 2017 draft and we didn't pass on him, I am looking forward to watching him sack many QB's ...

We had a choice of Hooker or OJ Howard, after Mahomes and Trubisky were off the board. And traded back for a 2018 first and SS Peppers and TE Njoku. Two for one and one more roll of the dice. The logic is sound, because even if only one works out, we cant lose in that scenario imo.

Correct, but we made that happen, because we gained the extra 1st round pick. Albeit a future investment of higher value.

We made the Njoku happen because we traded a 4th round pick and our 33rd to move up to 29.......... We could have done that with or without Peppers. We traded our 12 for a 2018 First and Jabril Peppers. That's it

I think semantics is the problem here.
We didn't trade #12 FOR a first and Peppers.
We traded 12 for two 1sts. And used one of them to select Peppers.
There's a difference.

I don't know if it semantics or me just being ignorant, but I don't get this comment and that is what I responded to: And traded back for a 2018 first and SS Peppers and TE Njoku. How did we get Njoku by trading back? I thought we traded up to get him?

But Traded back for 2018 Texans First, Peppers, and Njoku makes no sense at all

There's a difference. I agree. At the time they made the trade, there was no way to know who would be available at #25. They traded for a #2018 first, and #25, which they then used to take Peppers. I had an argument with another fan on FB who kept saying they took Peppers over Hooker, as if it were a straight up choice at a single moment in time.

Vers, I was speaking in macro terms.
Our net loss and gains in terms of numbers of selections was 0. The value of our total number of selections was imo a plus.
I am not laminating the loss of 33, & 108, because we added the 1st in 2018 and 29.
We still ended up with arguably a top 3 Safety and a top 3 (#2 true TE) TE.
I know your position on Peppers already, but I don't think that there is much if any separation in terms of talent from OJ and Njoku.

hehe...no big deal just eat the mistake...lol
But FLdawg...I think the trade back as we were clearly targeting Peppers when we made that decision. We were covering our bases on WHAT IF PEPPERS IS GONE??? No Links, just Sherlock Holmes stuff. So the guy we had as a 2nd target was Njoku in case Peppers was gone...well Peppers was there and we liked Njoku so much that once we heard the Steelers were targeting him...we moved up to get him. Well worth it

I agree that Peppers was their target after Mahomes went off the board at 10.
I think that they must have already had discussions with Houston prior to the Draft and Houston liked Watson.
My guess is that if Peppers was taken off the board before 25, then we would have taken Njoku there. I believe that both players where a target of ours.
Im not going to Judge the Peppers selection until I see their plan for him.
Njoku I thought was a top 15 prospect.
The facts are that we had two 1st going in to the Draft and ended up with 3 1st and a future 1st.

Myles Garrett’s unexpected critique from Bruce Smith drives him to be even better Hours before the Browns made him the No. 1 pick, Myles Garrett sat down with Hall of Fame pass rusher Bruce Smith to break down game film of his career at Texas A&M. Just a normal Thursday, right? What followed was even more abnormal for Garrett. Smith, who racked up 200 sacks over 19 seasons in the NFL, delivered a frank assessment of Garrett’s game. The former Texas A&M star has been lauded for his unique athleticism and produced from Day 1 in College Station, but Smith didn’t hesitate to point out the areas where Garrett could improve. “He said I was slow off the ball,” Garrett said before Saturday’s minicamp practice. “But that’s coming from the very best. He’s just trying to teach me the tricks that I can get off the ball faster and do it even better. If I learn that and keep on practicing at it, I can perform at a high level.” The film that elicited Smith’s critique was Texas A&M’s season opener against UCLA. In a game the Aggies won, Garrett had three tackles, including a sack and another tackle for loss, and two quarterback hurries. A reporter Saturday said he thought Garrett played pretty well in that game. “I thought so, too,” Garrett said with a smile. “I kind of laughed a little bit. Most people wouldn’t say that, but he’s one of the greatest, if not the greatest, pass rushers. If he thinks so, and I want to be at his level someday, I need to take his advice and run with it.” Garrett has repeatedly said the external expectations that come with being the No. 1 pick don’t intimidate him because he has even higher goals for himself. As a high school player, he and his father, Lawrence, set goals for him to become the nation’s top-rated recruit (check) and the No. 1 pick in the NFL Draft (check). There are more lofty goals on that checklist, of course, and following the advice of a legend like Smith only makes them more realistic. “He played leagues above what I am right now if I want to get there,” Garrett said. “I’ve got to soak in all that information and all that greatness.” http://www.clevelandbrowns.com/news/arti...a4-acebb9ca3ce7

Thanks for the article. Two things: 1. Bruce Smith was my NFL comparison to Myles. It's cool that Bruce is mentoring him. 2. What a great kid Myles is. I love how he addressed Smith's criticism w/comments like these: “I kind of laughed a little bit. Most people wouldn’t say that, but he’s one of the greatest, if not the greatest, pass rushers. If he thinks so, and I want to be at his level someday, I need to take his advice and run with it.”
And
“He played leagues above what I am right now if I want to get there,” Garrett said. “I’ve got to soak in all that information and all that greatness.” Great, great attitude and this guy is giving me positive vibes. Love this pick by the Browns!!!!

I think you guys are forgetting.
We are stupid. Because we didn't take a QB number 1 overall.
I don't remember if it had to be Mitch specifically.
But that was the name I kept reading. And it apparently didn't matter if he turned out to be any good.
How dare we not take a QB over a "bust" like Myles.
Same. Old. Browns.

Got to love Garrett...waiting for him to be the 2nd greatest pick we made since our return 1999. Hopefully he can start his rookie year with a Pro Bowl appearance
Bruce Smith is good friends with our DC Williams. Who offered Garrett that if he wishes he would get Bruce to come to our Camp and tutor him a bit.
If I remember correctly???

Yeah I read that to. Although I think BS is coming to camp regardless of Garrett. I think Williams told MG that he was going to be in camp this year. Anyway good times

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ss...art_river_indexDee and Joe Thomas praise Garrett Highlights imo -"I'm just impressed with his demeanor and his willingness to learn and his humbleness," Thomas said, "but also you see that fire that's burning inside him to be great and I think those are the hallmarks of guys that have a chance to be really excellent football players." -"He's shown an interest in learning and I'm a player that really likes to try to help teach and impart any wisdom that I've gotten over the ages on some of those young guys," Thomas said, "so it will be fun for me, too, to be able to try to help as best as I can and try to get him to think like an offensive tackle and hopefully turn him into the great player I think he can be." Dee thinks he's a swell guy too. Hard to temper my excitement for Myles. I think he's certainly putting in the work to get a good result.

The last player I was this excited about us drafting was Joe Thomas.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Joe, one of the NFL greats as a technician, now gets to teach a kid with all the raw power, strength, and size how to beat a great technician. And Bruce Smith can add instruction on how to get the most out of his power and strength... If this combo can't help make MG into something special then no one could.

www.nfl.com By Marc Sessler Around the NFL Writer Published: May 17, 2017 at 12:25 p.m. Joe Thomas has seen a flood of first-round picks come and go in Cleveland.
Many have washed away ingloriously, but the Pro Bowl left tackle for the Browns sees genuine hope in rookie pass rusher Myles Garrett.
"I'm just impressed with his demeanor and his willingness to learn and his humbleness," Thomas said of the No. 1 overall pick, per The Plain Dealer, "but also you see that fire that's burning inside him to be great and I think those are the hallmarks of guys that have a chance to be really excellent football players."
Count Thomas among those who were relieved to see the Browns use the first-overall pick on a rare specimen at one of football's most important positions instead of reaching for a lukewarm quarterback.
"It's an impactful player at a position of need," Thomas said, "and I think sometimes people reach for a quarterback at No. 1 and then it takes a long time to develop him and if they don't have the right system and the right people in place around them, sometimes it's hard for them to have that success."
Thomas could author a Russian novel on the topic of swinging and missing on first-round quarterbacks -- he's seen a dismal flood of them in Cleveland -- but that won't be a talking point this season.
If there was any debate who the Browns might take at No. 1, the team today is all in on Garrett, with owner Dee Haslam saying: "He is amazing. He's a pretty awesome specimen of an athlete."
As for Thomas, he'll be one of the first NFL players to line up and challenge Garrett play after play in training camp. Good luck finding a better teacher.
"He's shown an interest in learning and I'm a player that really likes to try to help teach and impart any wisdom that I've gotten over the ages on some of those young guys," Thomas said, "so it will be fun for me, too, to be able to try to help as best as I can and try to get him to think like an offensive tackle and hopefully turn him into the great player I think he can be."

I'm waiting for the reports that the Browns are trying to trade Thomas to Denver again.
At DT, context and meaning are a scarecrow kicking at moving goalposts.

What better person to learn how to attack an offensive tackle than the best the game has ever had, Joe Thomas?
Combined with his willingness to teach and supposed Garrett's willingness to learn - sounds like a formula for something awesome.

I might be wrong, but it seems that guys like Peppers, Brantley, and Ogunjobi are getting more support on here than Garrett.
Meanwhile, Garrett was the superior player and seems to be saying and doing all the right things while drawing positive remarks by those who really do know what's happening.
Confusing.
All I know for sure is that I am thrilled that we drafted such a talented and high character player like Myles Garrett.
