I have said that for years.

Ask any person who has had success, they can point to a lucky break.

That said, many people get a "lucky break" sent their way and don't act on it, so it still takes the person to see it and take action. But no doubt, drafting players takes some luck that a guy falls to you, and takes some luck you select the right guy.

Think about it, their was a time when Peyton Manning and Ryan Lief were rated as neck and neck by everybody. They were.

They aren't now.

If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.

Technically, we drafted BQ before trading Frye.

Draft Quinn
Quinn Holds out
Start Frye
Trade Frye immediately after week 1
Start Anderson

You're right. My bad.

However, the point is still valid that they didn't trade Frye to protect DA's confidence issues..............right?

The trading Frye thing is just to weird to say (IMO) why they did it.

I think the plan all along was regardless of Frye vs DA, Quinn was ganna be the guy at some point THAT season..

But then DA dropped 50 on Cincy, and we were winning more than we lost, so you have to ride it out.

I remember there being a rumor of Dallas being interested in trading for DA. And even after he had a Pro Bowl year, and lead us to 9 wins, I still was hoping we'd do that trade. Not that I had any faith in Quinn, I just knew after that crappy game in Cincy what DA was.

Sigh.

They traded Fry because they had someone willing to give up something for him.

Fry stunk. He had a great OL look awful.

In that opening game, he was sacked 5 times in less than 1/2 of football. He ran into sacks. He escaped a solid pocket, in order to run into pressure.

DA came in, and in the rest of that year was sacked something like 17 times. Yeah, he was sacked, for the rest of the year, about as much as Fry was in 1/2 of one game.

Fry had good wheels, and no idea what to do with them. He had a decent arm, and no ability to use it. Bleh. I was so glad when he was dumped.

I just remember at the time that was reported in articles as well as probably on the boards.

We know DA had a confidence problem.
We know after being named the starter we traded off the only competition he had to starting in the 07 season. BQ was not a thought by the staff at all to be ready to start. I think that also was clearly known by DA. So for 2007 we were going all in with DA and he did great without getting his Uni dirty at all in several of those games...best year ever we experienced in our passing game and Pass Pro protection.
As has been stated many times by both of us the MO on a D plan against us is Stop the run and let the Browns QB beat us...well DA was beating them and stretched the field Vertically which in effect made our Running game effective also. It was a great year to be a Brown's fan.

Too bad it was short lived. And yes BQ sucked. Frye had those tiny hands that had many throws just pop out of them and flutter. smh

I thought that was funny by the poster who said we ended up hiring 3 years later the guy who traded for Frye!

Braylon caught everything (unless he was wide open), Winslow had his one great year, JoeJ was always steady, Jamal still had gas in the tank, and Cribbs was the best field position weapon in the game...

Yes, it was a bright spot in an otherwise miserable couple decades.
