I believe Kobe Bryant had a similar injury but finished the game he was injured in. He was coming off an Achilles tear re-hab and speculation was that the injury was potentially/partially attributed to that tear (no proof of such a thing though). Like every knee injury, each one has it's own degree of severity. Some people/injuries need surgery, some don't.

I feel bad for the kid.

I've had this injury.... and I didn't know I had it for awhile. Played through it. Discovered it in the off season and had surgery. He will be fine once he has the surgery done.
how long is full recovery? is he most likely out for this season?

welp. 2018 it is.

Hope he bounces back.

I see the Browns signed two secondary guys:

DB Najee Murray
DB Donte Carey

I'm assuming that rookie mini camp is not "Training Camp" from the standpoint of being able to put him on the PUP list?

If we can PUP him, it's like a free roster spot for one of the other guys to show what he's got until Oct or so. Silver lining and all that jazz.

We'll probably wait on the IR spot until after TC ... gotta see who else is injured (can't we only have one guy on IR to return?)

Hmmmm two things coming to mind.

We have to be careful to not lose him like we did the first Carey, DB we drafted awhile back. I forget what we did vs what we should have done to keep him from being claimed;

I think the rules regarding 'players-to-return' status(es) changed again. However, I think the ability to PUP a player stayed the same and I think there is no limit to the number of players on the PUP list. I foget how long we have to keep them on the roster until they can be PUP designated.

Edited to add:

I believe you are correct about the 'designation to return' (being that only one player can be designated as such)...but that is not for a player who started the season on PUP. PUP guys cannot have practiced in TC to be eligible and they can return after 6-8 weeks ish or have to be IR'd.

Yes, you're correct. There's a difference between PUP and IR to return

If we put him on the PUP doesn't that mean he has to stay on it for 6-8 weeks? Or can we take him off any time? This sounds like he might be ready before the season, I wouldn't Pup him unless he has a set back.

He would have to sit out the first six weeks, he then could join the team any time within the net five weeks (if placed on the PUP list).

His injury might be healed by the beginning of the season, but he would likely not be game ready.

PUP seems likely in this case, which is the best news possible

I wonder, can he practice with the Team or does he have to sit out until 6 weeks have past? I think it would just be better to keep him active and let him practice with the Team until he's ready. Unless we find the 53rd Player we want to keep until week 6.

Edit: In other words, we would have him ready 2-3 weeks into the season, rather than have to wait 6 weeks.

Great news! Even so, I doubt he sees the field much this year. You can only learn so much on the sidelines. He's a rookie. He needs much practice before jumping in front of guys like Antonio Bryant, AJ Green, etc.

Good news though!

He can't practice until week six. I think that is the best course of action. I'd rather do that than waste a roster spot during the recovery.

I can't see him being ready before week 6, regardless of the good news he just received. He's a good PUP candidate.

Even if he was ready he would have a lot of catching up to do. Glad we signed McCourty.

Yeah, I doubt we would have signed him to be honest. It might work out better for this year.

with the signing of McCourty I think we will eventually put Wilson on IR. We could still PUP him but if we don't have injuries...that is where he will end up. We got 4 players. Haden, Taylor, Boughty and McCourty...one of the young ones will step it up I'm sure. A once need will be ok.

I saw a report that the NFL is considering adding a 2nd "designated to return" IR slot. That could be where he goes.
