Former Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Michael D. Jackson reportedly was killed in a motorcycle crash Friday morning, according to TMZ Sports. The report cites a confirmation from Louisiana State Police that Jackson, who turned 48 in April, was killed in the accident in Tangipahoa, La.

The report says Jackson was driving his 2013 Kawasaki motorcycle at a “high rate of speed” around 1 a.m. when a 20-year-old woman backed out of a parking spot and into the path of Jackson. He reportedly crashed into the woman’s driver-side door and killed her as well. The investigation into the crash continues.

Jackson, who played eight seasons in the NFL and led the league in receiving touchdowns in 1996, spoke with Shutdown Corner last summer about the move of the Browns franchise following the 1995 season and the tumultuous first year in Baltimore in the birth of the Ravens’ organization in the new city.

He was a college teammate of Brett Favre at Southern Mississippi and entered the NFL in 1991 with first-year Browns head coach Bill Belichick, playing five seasons there before finishing an injury-plagued career with the Ravens in 1998. Jackson caught 353 passes for 5,393 yards and 46 touchdowns — including the 14 league-leading scores in 1996 — over his eight seasons.

Jackson served as the mayor of Tangipahoa, his hometown, from 2009 to 2013.

Rip to thriller. Sad news

Wasn't Michael the guy who caught Bernie's last TD pass with the Browns? I was thinking it was a play that Bernie literally drew up in the dirt to beat Denver. The next day Belicheck cut him. Anyone else remember it that way?

I also remember him going by the last name Dyson for a while.

Please someone tell me that you remember or I may get my LT memory checked.

Ahh,,, Dyson.. Now I remember and Yes, he caught Bernies last TD pass. Remember, the offense wasn't working so they supposedly drew up the play in the dirt and ran it... and it worked..

Belichick was ticked off and that was the end.

I remember him, had a solid career. Sorry they died needlessly.
I do recall him dropping two passes - at least one of them was on third down - early in the playoff game at Pittsburgh in 1995, early enough that we still had a chance.
RIP

Yes. They drew it up in the dirt when Belichick called a run on a 3rd and long. Bernie hit him for a TD and that was the last pass Bernie ever threw in a Browns uni.

Its been 24 years, so I can't swear to it, but I do recall reading that Belichick called a naked bootleg for Bernie to run on that 3rd down play Bernie improvised with Jackson, and that after the TD, Bill was livid with Kosar on the sideline.

Anyway, its beside the point; RIP and Godspeed to Michael Jackson and the young woman who was killed, along with condolences to their families.

Sad news. He was a decent receiver. Must have done well for himself later. Mayor of his town is impressive. Wonder if the young lady who backed out in front of him was texting or on her phone?

It's actually easier to see a motorcycle at night. They have lights on them.

I know one thing.............it amazes me how many idiots text and drive at the same time. I was never really aware of it because I almost always drive myself and I keep my eyes on the road and traffic.

However, there were two times recently where I was a passenger. One time was w/my son when he drove us from Columbia to Charleston for his consultation on the lung issue. The next time was when he had the biopsy and my wife drove all 3 of us back because my son and I had a couple of beers afterwards.

Anyway..........I was amazed at how many idiots text and drive. Doing 70+ in traffic and texting. Brilliant! Stuff needs to stop. Your life won't end if you stay off the phone for a bit, but it can end real quick if you don't.

Its also easy for idiots on motorcycles to die and kill others when they recklessly speed at night.

But feel free to keep making up imaginary stories about this poor young lady who tragically died.

I agree that riding motorcycles at high speeds after dark is stupid.
But I don't think Vers was making anything up. By that I mean, he was merely wondering if that is a possibility.
I see people staring at their phones all the time while driving.

Talking on a cell is bad enough when behind the wheel, looking at your texts is much worse IMO.

There is no blame to place on this subject. If there is noone with alcohol or other substances in their systems then in all honesty it very well may end up being a horrible accident.

MJ may have been speeding but last I checked backing accross lanes of traffic is also against the rules so both would accept blame for their actions and therefore just falls into that realm of a horrible horrible accident.

If details change then we can pin blame towards that direction. Either way RIP to all involved.

I realize they have weird laws out west, but on the east coast, backing out of a parking space, even onto a road, is not against the law. Isnt getting onto the road, sort of the point of backing out of a parking space? Where else are you going to back out onto?

Recklessly speeding is against the law.

Weird laws?? It is perfectly fine to back out of your driveway into the flow of traffic. I wont dispute that but backing out across multiple lanes of traffic going against the flow of traffic to which direction you are on has never been a recommended practice unless there is a turn lane to yield into before merging with the flow of traffic. I don't get your hostility at all.

Its perfectly fine here. There are no laws against backing out of a parking space into the flow of traffic.

In the historic area of my town, its pretty much the only way to get out of a parking space. Because the parking spaces are angled along the side of the road.

But I find it interesting how you men are bent on placing blame on this woman, when its pretty obvious whos breaking the law by speeding "at a high rate of speed" at night and not only killed himself but an innocent person as well.

Dont let your browns colored testosterone glasses blind you.

On a two lane road it would be easy to be in both lanes while backing up. You would have to cross one to get into the far lane. Also, some of these two lane highways can be pretty narrow. We also don't know if there other cars parked on either side of her, and how big her car was. When you back out of your driveway and you want to go in the direction to your right, do you back out so you go the other way? If not, you are going against what you just stated.

Yes there is. And it's pretty much the same in all states.

Louisiana Laws
Revised Statutes
TITLE 32 — Motor vehicles and traffic regulation
RS 32:281 — Limitations on backing

Universal Citation: LA Rev Stat § 32:281
SUBPART L. MISCELLANEOUS PROVISIONS

§281. Limitations on backing

A. The driver of a vehicle shall not back the same unless such movement can be made with reasonable safety and without interfering with other traffic.

Pretty sure that's not what she meant.

I mean, if I say there is no law against turning right at a stop sign after you've stopped, I'd be right.

And you could come along and say "well, if you turn right and and hit someone, there's a law against that", you'd be right as well. Duh.

Reasonable safety generally precludes "right" when driving, doesn't it?

You would be right. You wouldn't get a ticket for turning right after the stop. If you hit someone after the stop sign it's a reckless op charge, or worse, vehicular manslaughter.

There is a law against illegal backing in most states so please stop your spin. You can get a ticket for illegal backing. It's a law on the books in most states. I know first hand. A law is a law.

I think, in your desire to disagree with me on anything, you are not aware, or didn't comprehend, what I said.

Read it again, slowly.

Or, let me help.

You CAN back into traffic, if done in a safe manner. You CAN'T back into traffic if done in an unsafe manner.

Same with a right turn.

Both are totally legal, IF done in a safe manner. If NOT done in a safe manner, that's a different story.

Now, go on.

LOL ok I just want to disagree with you. saywhat You're the one that responded to my post with the written law that's on the books that you seem to disagree with.

You just don't seem to understand there is a law against illegal backing and there is not a law on turning right at a stop sign after you stop. But whatever I'll let you win. I'm wrong. rofl

You really don't get it, do you? (not surprised though).

In my first reply to you, I was agreeing with you. The caveat is/was this:
Quote:
A. The driver of a vehicle shall not back the same unless such movement can be made with reasonable safety and without interfering with other traffic.

So, from your OWN quote, there isn't a law against backing onto a street/road, AS LONG AS IT'S DONE safely.

Just quit, you're looking bad here.
