I believe that any time boxing sanctions a match between a veteran, well established boxer going against a guy who has never even competed as a boxer in a sanctioned boxing match, that constitutes a mockery, a freak show and lessons the sport simply for money.
This simply doesn't constitute a boxing match when you only have one boxer on the card.
That's fair, I don't disagree but I also don't think any great harm is being done to the sport of boxing or the reputation of boxers.
That is, assuming Mayweather wins. If a guy who has never even competed as a boxer in a sanctioned boxing match goes in and knocks out one of the greatest boxers of all time in a boxing match, that will reflect terribly on boxing no matter how unfair it might be to do that based on the result of one fight.
Didn't want to start a new thread for this. Did anyone watch the Pacquiao/Horn fight last night? If so, what are your thoughts. I have a few:
--it was cool to have a decent fight on free tv.
--Teddy Atlas' constant rambling was annoying. It seemed that he was just making generalizations and wasn't really watching the fight.
--The other analyst seemed kinda dumb.
--Steven A Smith's outrage was beyond annoying. These stupid rants by him and Atlas took away from the fight.
--I thought the fight was close and could have went either way. I don't think the decision was an "outrage." I question the punch tracker. I do think that Horn landed a lot of significant straight right hands that split Pac's gloves and also had some nice uppercuts. Pac had several good left hands. Again, I think it was a very close fight and I found it to be an entertaining fight, but the commentators got in the way of a decent fight.
I thought Pac won easily, those scores could have been for Pac and no one would have batted an eye. I normally dont like Steven A., but I was as pissed as he was so he didnt bother me last night.
Believe it or not but half way through the fight me and my daughter were talking about scoring a fight and I was telling her about some of the decisions in the Olympics that were crazy, then a crazy decision happened half hour later.
Did anyone watch the Mayweather vs McGregor "World Tour"? I have to admit that I did watch some of it, and those who said this makes a mockery out of boxing probably had a good point.
There are videos all over YouTube for those who care to watch some of it. Spoiler alert: the language isn't quite suitable for DawgTalkers.
For every legitimately funny moment there were several other cringeworthy moments where the fighters took things way too far. They both came off as idiots-- that's probably not much of a surprise.

Nothing can make a mockery out of boxing. This is what it is.
It's just an escalation of it. Never before can I remember having a prize fight with only one boxer. It's a joke.
Right. Boxing has been a joke for ages. What is worse, this or wheeling out past their prime stars to hammer home checks when you know they are going to get killed?
If people would just stop spending money when they do that, it would force them to make better fights. But as long as the money is there, they have no incentive to stop. I blame the consumers for that.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

It's still a joke though. Boxing has been in the sewer for ages.
Unless I want to see Mcgregor get his face pounded in for a bunch of a million dollars, and see how much of a beating he can take before probably getting knocked out, I don't want to see this fight.
The problem is, I see two types who will buy this fight.
Some are like Mayweather, except they just can't wait to see a guy like Mcgregror get the snot beat out of his arrogant self on the way to getting knocked out.
The others are like Mcgregor and think he's actually got a shot to shock the world and shut Mayweather up, and set things right, as they'd see it.
Problem is; is in a world full of 350 million americans and even some others, there's enough of these types that can pull their money together meet up in front of a t.v pay per view for probably 59.95 ish, to make this side show slaughter profitable.
I keep thinking it's already happened, but they don't fight until August 20 something.
If there's going to be a train wreck, somebody's going to want to watch it.

I don't think you've ever seen a Floyd fight.
Floyd does not give out "beatings"
Floyd jabs you. Gets ahead in the scorecards. And then just doesn't let you hit him.
He is the most boring fighter in the history of punching people.
Am I the only one that pronounces hyperbole "Hyper-bowl" instead of "hy-per-bo-le"?

For those who will settle for watching McGregor getting choked out:
How to approach a contest where you actually dislike both contestants? Simple, put it on your "pay no mind" list. My guess is that Mayweather wins in a TKO when Macgregor gets a bleeder cut around the eye(s) in the 4th/5th round. So bleeping what, he will have beaten a non-boxer. Its a stupid match. I used to love boxing, but I don't know a single weight class champion these days, and I have no use for the UFC/MMA garbage.
There's no doubt that Conor McGregor has proven his fight with Floyd Mayweather will be must-see TV on Aug. 26. Portions of the press conferences leading up to the match have gotten ugly at times, further building the hype. Based on social media reactions, it sounds like everyone is going to be tuned in. That will help McGregor earn a lot of money, regardless of whether or not he actually wins.
But it doesn’t sound like McGregor’s preparations for the actual fight are going all that well. A couple weeks ago, people compared training videos of him and Mayweather, predicting that McGregor has absolutely no chance to beat the 49-0 boxer. Over the weekend, confidence in McGregor was further shaken, as boxer Jessie Vargas revealed he heard McGregor got knocked out recently by a sparring partner while training for the Mayweather fight.
We should point out that Vargas didn’t really have much proof of McGregor getting knocked out. He simply mentioned that the boxing world is small and that he heard McGregor was having a tough time.
But it’s not hard to imagine him getting knocked out. McGregor’s ex-sparring partner Chris van Heerden did an interview with TMZ Sports in June and revealed that he didn’t have any trouble tagging McGregor up in the ring. He also said McGregor doesn’t have a chance against Mayweather.
"I read all these posts where people say Mayweather’s gonna have his hands full landing on Conor because of Conor’s skill and footwork and movement," Van Heerden said. "I’m no Mayweather and—out of camp, out of shape—I landed [punches] on Conor McGregor at will."
McGregor may be talking a big game right now, but those in the industry still sound very skeptical about his chances of giving Mayweather a real run for his money.

"...McConor put his dumbass in a position where he's gonna get knocked out because this guy's been doing this all his life since he was a baby. McConor can't kick and grab and stuff so he won't stand much of a chance."
Crushing the guy's chances AND getting his name wrong (probably on purpose, but it doesn't matter). Awesome.
“...Iguodala to Curry, back to Iguodala, up for the layup! Oh! Blocked by James! LeBron James with the rejection!”
lol. I love when people dis with mispronouncing names. Jesse Jackson saying "Hillary Rodman Clinton", and N. Suh saying "I don't care what Rodney White thinks" (when talking about Roddy White).

this is going to be the biggest farce in boxing history. Granted, I can't stand Money, but to think Mcgregor even has a chance is hilarious..dude isn't even the best in his own sport, going to attempt one of the greatest technical fighters ever. If I was Money, i would toy with him for 12 rounds, then knock him out

It will do one thing, move the needle. I'd bet it gets a huge number in PPV. They've both done a good job in selling the fight. Both guys are jerks in different ways, so there's easily someone you want to see on the mat Saturday night.

I don't like either guy. Connor McGregor is a cocky, loud mouth who knows how to sell a fight. Floyd Mayweather is a habitual woman beater.
Saying they are both jerks makes it seem like they are just as bad as each other. They are not.

Right, I wasn't ranking them.
With the media onslaught ramping up, every time I hear McGregor's name I hear "McConnor" in my head. Thanks Tyson.

I've never seen either of these guys fight, but I've heard that Mayweather is a technician, offensively and defensively. My guess is that he'll stick-and-move, stick-and-move, until he opens a cut. Then he'll work the cut until they stop the fight. TKO, 5th or 6th round. Old timers: think Ali vs Quarry. Like watching paint dry.

This is kinda bold, but I predict that Macgregor gets disqualified [there are a ton of rules written in] during the fight and that they will then have to fight again w/different rules or Connor promising to follow them this time.
