I ask that question as my body is wracked with the pain of cramming a weekend of 4 wheeling , yard work, and being the fun uncle at my twin nephew/niece's 7th birthday party. It was held in this cool little place called Pump It Up where they have all of these large inflatable rides like side by side obstacle courses,slides,trampoline..etc. I am 38 but today I feel 138 and I still feel like a kid at heart but the body no longer shares that opinion. Shuffleboard and strained peas can't be that far into the future now.

I think I really hit the "over the hill" mark when I was fussing at my kids and forgot their names, even the baby who is about two (2), I think....

I'm 38 as well........every morning when I get out of bed, or anytime I lay down for more than minutes (and that's the hones to God truth), I get up and walk like a 90 yr. old man...........I love 4 wheeling - we have a blast doing it, but, taking my 7 yr. old daughter gets tiring, as her 4 wheeler doesn't have the clearance that ours do - I strain, huff and puff to get her unstuck..............I don't go tubing at the lake anymore because of my back (and the fact that I'm self employed, and if I get hurt "playing" we'll be screwed financially)......

So, when did I realize I was over the hill? I guess I still haven't realized/accepted it entirely - but I have changed my lifestyle to accomodate it to an extent........I still have as much fun as I can, but sometimes just walking through the yard and hitting a low spot when not expecting it will drop me to the ground in an instant. We're not old, but golly, aging sucks!

When I lost an edge and took a hard spill on my arse coaching hockey.....when the kids do it they bounce right up like nothing happened....I walked funny for a week.

Once I turned 22 I knew I was over the hill. After turning twenty-one there aren't anymore major milestones. Every year after that and your just getting older and older. Birthdays only mean another candle on the cake.

I broke my right wrist trying to "show-off" my old skateboard tricks to my then future wife (when I was 28). I figure that was a humbling day....but I'm still doing it all these years later and I just picked up snowboarding pretty heavy last year.

In fact, I was skateboarding with some little kids over this past 4th holiday when I was millimeters, and I mean MILLIMETERS, away from slicing my sack open again*. I was attempting an Ollie North, a trick where you put your family jewels in jeopardy if you fail to get the front foot extension JUST RIGHT. The board was standing straight up with I was landing but I controlled my landing enough so that it only "pushed lightly" on my little two friends.

* About 18 years ago, I cut my satchel open doing the same trick....and I remember running back to the house after seeing blood in my shorts. Man, that was a rough afternoon!

....sorry if I made anyone faint while reading this story.

I have not realized I am over the hill yet. The only reminder I have is when I take off running, and I move slower than when I am walking.

Just look at it this way. Every year brings you one year closer to retirement, when you can enjoy yourself

Today is not the best day to ask me.. I played a round of golf yesterday (and just to appease the naysayers, let's pretend I shot 125... )... then last night I fell asleep on the couch in an awkward position and this morning I'm walking like a 90 year old man...

For one thing your brain continues it's development and you begin to realize there's A LOT more to life.

I swear, I've been heading downhill for the last 5 years. Around 5 years ago, I was 25 and probably in the best shape of my life. I'd bodysurf everyday, and felt like 2% body fat. I could sprint probably faster than I ever had, and was still as agile as I was in high school.

Then I blew out my hamstring in a scrimmage flag-football game and was never the same again. Took me almost a year to fully recover from the hamstring, and I definately lost a step or three. I ws keeping up well in softball, but I kept getting slower in football after a couple years. Then I badly sprained both my ankles in too seperate incident in softball and had to "retire" from the flag football scene about 3 years ago, because I was getting too slow to keep up with the "youngsters".

I took up cycling less than a year ago, and jacked up my knee about a month ago and had to shut it down. After some rest, I went on my first ride this last weekend, and my knees ached on every little incline.

I basically feel like Ken Griffey Jr.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

A co-worker was admiring a new car in the parking lot. I knew the time had come because it didn't look appealling to me - it had only 2 doors.

I think you're past the over the hill stage ... and into the "crashed into the river in the valley below and is now careening out-of-control down the white water rapids" stage of your life.

You're right the brain is not fully developed til we're in our mid to late 20's. The people I was responding to were in their early 20's and thought there is nothing left to look forward to after 21.

I love what I do though, and while some days are better than others, it's hard getting around and being energetic on a bad wheel.

For some reason, when I turned 45 it suddenly struck me that I was over the hill.

That was 10 years ago, and though I still do not know the reason I thought that back then, I now fully realize that I was right.

I noticed I was over the hill when my neice and nephew informed me it wasn't cool to pretend to be Cornholio from Beavis and Butthead.

Man, the cartoons this generation of kid sees on TV sucks!

I'm glad I was raised during the Golden Age of Children's TV.

Beavis and Butthead, Aeon Flux, Ren and Stimpy

I noticed when I hurt my back by just bending over cleaning the tile of my pool and got an MRI and found 3 bulging disc and 1 herniated disc with a radial tear. Almost 2 years later I am still on pain meds getting ready for surgury(Laser). I feel like I am 100 every morning until my meds kick in. Age sucks! And I am only 37.....almost 38.
