The Cavs CAN'T have a plan. They basically locked themselves into the current roster when Lebron asked them to pay the guys already around them to massive contracts. Remember when everyone was saying, "Just give TT/JR that huge contract because money doesn't matter and we just need to get the deal done"? Remember when everyone was flipping out that we had to make moves at the trade deadline, because ... well, we HAVE to make moves. Well, those are the deals that are coming back to bite us now. We did get our Championship, but we pretty much mortgaged the future to do it.

At any rate, the team we have is already the second best in the league. If Kyle Korver hits three pointers at a percentage even CLOSE to what he normally does, Shump re-learns how to defend, JR plays up to his 2016 level and TT doesn't disappear for the majority of the Finals again, then we can probably compete with Golden State.

Yeah, we were basically one Kyle Korver 3 away from probably forcing Game 7 again ... but we're locked into our roster. Not much flexibility. The TT/JR/Love contracts are strapping us.

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."

gordon hayward going to the celtics should provide an actual challenge.

we were going through the motions and didn't take anything seriously until game 3 of the finals.

and with PG13 and possibly melo going to the west, it just got that much easier.

That's part of the reason I don't get why Lebron would want to go to the Lakers. Does he really want to partake in the bloodbath that would be the Western Conference playoffs? Other than the Celtics, the East would be a breeze. Even the regular season games would be easier, since you'd face more Eastern foes than Western.

i honestly think if he even remotely takes the idea of going to LA seriously, it's because the rumors are true that his wife wants to move there permanently.

7 straight finals. 8th straight most likely this coming season.

if he goes to LA, there won't be a 9th straight.

Or the fact that everyone CRUCIFYS him for losing 5 Finals. He's better off doing what Jordan and Kobe did and just miss the Finals altogether. tongue

i never understood the hate for losing in the finals.

and i agree, the fan boys never care to point out that jordan got bounced in the first round a couple of times, something that has never happened to lebron

Have you seen the contracts people are getting now adays?

That TT contract was a bargain. Seriously.

Not to mention they wouldn't be able to sign anyone anyway with Kyrie, KLove and LBJ's contracts.

I agree w/you and will take it a step or two further.

I was one the guys that strongly supported keeping TT. And I don't regret it at all.

I don't think we win a championship last year w/out him.

I also think that we are in contention to challenge for another championship next year. I'm not getting all this doom and gloom and the desire to play the blame game.

Yes, maybe and I understand the point. But a few things to consider ... Draymond Green and Klay Thompson make roughly the same amount of money as TT. They signed deals around the same time as TT did, and bring a lot more to the table.

But it's the luxury tax that's the real back-breaker for us. That extra 3-5 million we might not have had to pay to TT gets multiplied by three because of the tax. That turns into several million that might of been used to secure David Griffin to a contract extension. (Maybe that was his punishment for signing the TT deal in the first place?) laugh

Those extra few million that were tacked on to those non-max deals end up getting multiplied because of the tax. And I think we're at a point where an extra million or so for a vet min or larger contract in a trade is really starting to hurt the bottom line because now it gets tripled.

I'm not trying to doom and gloom ... I'm pointing out the reality of the situation. We went all-in (literally) to get the Championship. We locked in the majority of our current roster to the point where we can't make any more moves now.

This is shaping up very much the way it did the first time LeBron left.. he demands max money, demands his "select players" receive massive contracts, then complains when there is no money left to get him the actual help we need to compete for championships, then uses that as an excuse to leave... I've seen this play before.

I wasn't even talking about you.

I still think it was a great move to keep TT. Again, I don't think we win the championship last year w/out him. I'm almost positive of that. I also think we have a shot to win the championship next year and I feel that reaching the Finals this year was cool.

I see no reason as to why we shouldn't have given TT that contract. I'm not asking anyone to agree. It's just my personal opinion.

And how many championships have Cleveland teams [in the three major sports] won in the last 50 years or so?

It's not doom and gloom.. I'm very happy with our championship and if LeBron leaves, he leaves... but it still has to be said that if LeBron was willing to do what some other superstars have done and play for less than the max, if LeBron didn't hold the threat of leaving over the teams head all the time to get mega contracts for the players he likes, if he wasn't so adamant about playing GM and getting the team to bring in the support players he wants, if he showed long term commitment to the team so that other great players were willing to sign here long term.. this could be so much more than a single championship, this could have been a 5 or 6 year little dynasty... with multiple championships...

LeBron has been the best player on the court for a decade but off the court he is still his own worst enemy for wanting to play GM..

Lebron came back to win a Championship for Cleveland ..... and did it.

I would be disappointed if he leaves, but also always thankful that he came back to get us at least one.

I really really really really really want LeBron to sign a Vet Minimum deal with Golden State next offseason.

That would be hilarious.

Saw an article on Bleacher, says one of the reasons LeBron leaves for LA is Gilbert doesn't spend the money, lol. Not sure but I think he has spent the most in the NBA the last two seasons.

I would guess he would prefer they don't try and salary dump guys like Iman Shumpert.

He has a $21 million house in LA and there are rumors that his wife and kids already live in the city full time (his supposedly go to school here).

I can understand if LeBron thinks if Gilbert doesn't spend enough money (I don't agree with him). I don't understand if the argument is he doesn't spend money.

Like. It's really difficult for the Cavs to spend more money at this point...

What we got is what we got.

Which btw. Is a team that's went to 3 straight finals and went 12-1 in the Eastern Conference playoffs last year.

What exactly has lebron said/done to stir the pot?

Having a house in LA doesnt really count when he is actively involved in the tv/film industry,

So what has he done?

All I see is wannabe journalists printing a bunch of speculation and opinion pieces. Because like Ted said - clickbait,

Lets be honest. If all LBJ was worried about was winning titles he would have signed a new contract for 1.00 per year. Please let me know when he does that.

Why would LBJ go to LA to play with the island of misfit toys in the much harder division? The problem with LA fans is that they have no consistency. Now I could see him going to Houston if Melo goes there.

Laker fans are pretty consistent. They showed up last year when the team was terrible. They are an institution.

LeBron would only go to LA for non-basketball reasons.

I could see that, he woould look at it as a way to transition into the show business life he wants for after his playing career
