Osweiler, working against the first team defense, completed 10-of-16 attempts for 94 yards with one sack. He also put two field goals on the board in his four drives well.... lets dump him right now!!!!!!!!!!!! None of the QBs played especially well in the scrimmage. Based on tonight, I wouldn't feel comfortable with any of them under Center in a real game. The QB play was really disappointing.

Well, Mary Kay thinks it will be Kizer and Grossi thinks Kessler will start next week. And both options are utter nonsense. “You want somebody to be head and shoulders above everybody else, but let’s be honest, when you have four guys that you are giving a bunch of reps to, it is hard to do,” Jackson said. “Pretty soon, we have to stop that part of it and move forward with who we think can really go play quarterback for us. That is the fair thing to do.” The scrimmage clarified a lot for me. The bare trickle of information coming from camp is extremely misleading, i.e.; Kizer is far from ready and Kessler has shown zero progress from last year. From what I saw, they need to relegate Kessler to the #3 spot, start Brock, and keep Kizer working to develop. Continuing to trot Kessler out there as a starter is a complete waste of time and reps. Kizer looks the part but is clearly raw. Brock needs time with the ones and consistent reps to develop chemistry, get his timing down, and get ready to play. IMHO, period, end of story.

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

Kizer isnt ready but thats what camp and preseason is for. Last night was one of 2 days where Kizer hasnt been the best guy in camp. We want to put a lot of focus on this scrimmage but its just another practice session.
Kizer is gonna get the work with the 1s and maybe now Brock gets some work with the 1s but this team is looking like its gonna be the rook for week 1 unless something dramatically changes.

I am sorry, Mary Kay knows nothing about football. At one time was was a perky reporter who looked good, but now she is a middle aged woman who doesn't look as good and has learned nothing about what she reports on.
Just goes to show you need to become competent at your craft because looks don't last, for both women and men. She was and is a bad reporter.

Training Camp Log, Day 9by Scott Petrak August 5, 2017 ROOKIE MOVE: Coach Hue Jackson sure sounds like rookie quarterback DeShone Kizer will get the start in the preseason opener Thursday against the Saints. Jackson mentioned “a feeling of who I think can be the guy” as one of the criteria for his decision. Jackson will meet with head of football operations Sashi Brown and chief strategy officer Paul DePodesta before deciding how he’ll shuffle the rotation when practice resumes Monday. Cody Kessler has been No. 1 throughout the offseason and since camp opened but has played terribly. Jackson appears to be leaning toward giving Kizer a chance, with veteran Brock Osweiler waiting in the wings if he struggles. Kizer, the No. 52 pick, has all the physical tools desired. The question is if he’s ready. But Jackson said he’ll leave open the door to change the starter between the preseason opener and the start of the regular season Sept. 10 against the Steelers. NEWS OF THE DAY: The Browns held a “mock game” a day after the Orange and Brown Scrimmage. The offense managed two touchdowns — Kizer- and Osweiler-led drives — after none Friday. CAMPER OF THE DAY: Linebacker Jamie Collins. First, he leaped and reached high to tip a screen pass for an incompletion. Then with the No. 1 offense driving, Collins stepped in front of a Kessler pass over the middle and returned it 80 yards for a touchdown. His extreme athleticism was obvious on both plays. PLAY OF THE DAY: Osweiler lofted a perfect pass down the left sideline and receiver Rannell Hall came down with it for a 40-yard gain. Trey Caldwell was in coverage. QUOTE OF THE DAY: “We’re good. We’re on the right track. I can’t wait (for the winning to happen).” — Collins, on the direction of the organization. SUNDAY’S SCHEDULE: No practice. Monday’s practice is from 3:25-5:55 p.m. https://www.brownszone.com/2017/08/05/training-camp-log-day-9/

Signs pointing to Brock Osweiler being elevated to start in first preseason game 5:28 PM ET Tony Grossi ESPN Cleveland More takeaways from Day 9 of Browns training camp … 1. QB shakeup coming: As expected, Hue Jackson didn’t shake up the quarterback rotation in a light practice on Saturday. But he admitted he could announce one Monday and indications are that Brock Osweiler will be the new starter in the practice week and in the preseason opener Thursday night against the New Orleans Saints. Osweiler has seen little, if any, time with the No. 1 units since he joined the Browns in “that” trade on March 9. But Cody Kessler has struggled – he tipped off a pass on Saturday that resulted in a Jamie Collins pick 6 interception – and Osweiler was effective moving the ball in the Friday team scrimmage and finally showed some ability to beat a defense vertically on Saturday, completing a pretty pass of about 40 yards to Rannell Hall, who beat cornerback Trey Caldwell down the left sideline. “We need to throw the ball better,” Jackson said. “Throw the ball better and throw the ball with more urgency, and throw the ball in better spots, but we have to get open, too. It is a combination of both.” 2. Sagging confidence: The biggest tip-off of a switch to Osweiler – and not to rookie DeShone Kizer – was Jackson’s stated desire to win a game on Thursday to set a tone for the preseason. “I want to go through the weekend, go through last night and go through today and really sit down and make what I think is the best decision for our football team for Thursday night,” Jackson said. “That is what is important. I will keep stressing that Thursday night may be different than what the regular season may be. If it is, it is. If it isn’t, then it isn’t, too. My job is to make sure that I put the guy out there who gives us the best chance to score points and help this team win. That is what I’m going to do.” Jackson conceded that he has a different urgency about this preseason than last year, when the Browns went 0-4 in practice games and proceeded to lose 14 in a row in the real season en route to a 1-15 debacle. “I do not want to go 0-4 again,” Jackson said. “I don’t want to feel like that. I don’t think this team deserves that. We need to go out and play good in front of our fans and go win. I don’t care what we are playing. I just think that has got to be our mindset. I think the mindset is different than what it is. If we are going to play, we need to go win. Everybody … says that, but I mean it. We need to go win.” 3. The decision: Jackson said he would consult with Sashi Brown, executive vice president, and Paul DePodesta, chief strategy officer, when contemplating the quarterback switch. “I would love to have their input,” Jackson said. “I want to see what they have seen and how they feel about it, and we will go from there.” Where does this leave Kizer? In the same place he was when entering his first camp – learning the pro game. “You have to make sure that you know when you put him out there what is it that he can do and what he can’t do,” the coach said. “We are asking him to do things that he can do right now. We are not asking him to do things that he can’t. He has done a good job. I think we all have known that, but he is growing. He is getting better. I think last night was eye opening for him. He shared that with you all. I think it was a great experience for him, though. He will grow from that experience really fast the more he plays, just because being in that environment with your teammates in front of fans in a different stadium, it is different. We will have to get used to that.” 4. Tough blow: Receiver Jordan Leslie, who was having a good camp, possibly suffered a concussion when he was accidentally popped in the head by linebacker Dominique Alexander while making a catch over the middle on a ball from Kessler. It was an accident because players weren’t supposed to be taken to the ground even though they were in full pads. “Anytime a guy gets hit in the head like that, there is a possible concussion there,” Jackson said. “We will evaluate that and see exactly where he is.” Before the injury, the team already was in the process of bringing in a new receiver. He is Rasheed Bailey, an undrafted free agent of the Eagles in 2015. The Browns also signed tight end Nate Iese, a converted linebacker from UCLA. Defensive lineman Jamal Marcus and receiver James Wright were released with injury designations. 5. Quarterback update: Passing numbers compiled by ESPN Cleveland’s Jason Gibbs in team drills: Kessler, 6 of 9, one interception, 52 of 81 overall; Osweiler, 7 of 11, 57 of 101 overall; Kizer, 3 of 5, 44 of 85 overall; Kevin Hogan, 1 of 3, 19 of 30 overall. http://www.espn.com/blog/cleveland/post/...-preseason-game

Browns training camp snapshot (Day 9): Hue Jackson speaks as if he’ll change QB order, seems to drop hint about DeShone Kizer Published: August 5, 2017 - 5:41 PM Saturday’s developments Browns coach Hue Jackson explained he would meet with head of football operations Sashi Brown and chief strategy officer Paul DePodesta this weekend to receive their input about the team’s quarterback order, then make a decision about how to proceed at the game’s most important position. Jackson spoke as if he will shake up the group and use a different quarterback pecking order beginning with Monday’s practice. Players are off Sunday. Asked after the ninth session of training camp if he has different feelings about the QB rotation, Jackson said, “I will. I’m sure I will. … My job is to make sure that I put the guy out there that gives us the best chance to score points and help this team win.” Cody Kessler has struggled mightily in the lead spot, so it’ll be surprising if Jackson doesn’t make a change. The real question is whether he’ll elevate rookie DeShone Kizer, who has split first-team repetitions with Kessler since mandatory minicamp in mid-June, or veteran Brock Osweiler, who has worked with the second-team offense during the same span. Jackson seemed to hint he’s leaning toward making Kizer the man to beat in the QB competition by promoting him to first in the order and starting him in Thursday’s preseason opener against the New Orleans Saints. Jackson was asked if he were to change the No. 1 QB whether he would solely want the player who gives the team the best chance to win or whether he would want to see if someone could handle more responsibility than he’s been given thus far. “It’s kind of a little bit of what you mentioned, but it’s also a feeling of who I think can be the guy, and then kind of go in that direction first and foremost, but leave the door open because we do have candidates that can play,” Jackson said. “And who knows? The guy might go out there and not play as well, so I don’t want to shut the door that way. But I also don’t want the guy looking over his shoulder, too, ‘cause you’ve got to play.” Perhaps that means Jackson wants to give Kizer a shot but knows Osweiler could still start the Sept. 10 regular-season opener should Kizer falter. Jackson reiterated the starting QB for the first exhibition game wouldn’t necessarily start in Week 1 against Pittsburgh. Kessler and Kizer had rough outings Friday in the Orange and Brown Scrimmage at FirstEnergy Stadium. They each led the first-team offense but failed to score against the No. 2 defense. Osweiler had the best night, orchestrating two field-goal drives with the second unit. On Saturday, the Browns held what Jackson calls a “mock game.” It’s basically a scrimmage without full pads and live contact. Kessler threw an interception that linebacker Jamie Collins returned 80 yards for a TD. Osweiler connected with wide receiver Rannell Hall for 40 yards during a touchdown drive, which running back Brandon Wilds capped with a 7-yard run. Kizer had the only touchdown pass, a 34-yard completion to receiver Jordan Payton, who broke free when cornerback Alvin Hill fell in coverage. “[Kizer has] done a good job. I think we’ve all known that,” Jackson said. “But he’s growing, and he’s getting better. I think [the Orange and Brown Scrimmage] last night was eye-opening for him. I think he shared that for you all. I think it was a great experience for him, though. But he will grow from that experience really fast the more he plays.” • Receiver Jordan Leslie left the “mock game” with what Jackson said could be a concussion. He caught a 23-yard pass from Kessler on an in route and took a shot to the helmet from linebacker Dominique Alexander. • The Browns signed receiver Rasheed Bailey and undrafted rookie tight end Nate Iese. They waived undrafted rookie defensive lineman Jamal Marcus (ankle), a University of Akron product, and receiver James Wright (bruised lung) with injury designations. Schedule: Players are off Sunday. The next practice is set for 3:25-5:55 p.m. Monday. https://www.ohio.com/akron/sports/browns...t-deshone-kizer

It's not like this is a surprise. We have Kessler, who should be a career backup, Osweiler, who just had one of the worst QB seasons of all-time, and Kizer, whose stock plummeted throughout the 2016 season, as our options.

Maybe this will clear it up ... *L* ..
Brock Osweiler - QB - Browns
ESPN Cleveland reports "signs are pointing" to Brock Osweiler starting the Browns' first preseason game.
Osweiler hasn't seen many reps with the first-team offense, but outplayed DeShone Kizer and Cody Kessler in Friday's team scrimmage. Coach Hue Jackson said he could "shake things up" next week, suggesting Osweiler will be the new starter at practice. It's an unexpected turn in the Browns' quarterback battle. With Kessler struggling, the Week 1 job may be down to Osweiler and Kizer.

So. . . . We hand the Rock to Brock?
Kessler to the Fish? I thought Flipper was a natural fit . . . .
Kizer is not ready IMO. I still play him with the 2's in preseason some.

Kizer gets all first team reps from here on to get him ready for week 1. If he is struggling u set him back and give #2 brock a chance. You aren't meeting with sashi to discuss starting brock lol. You meet with him to go over rook plan and what happens if he is struggling.

Browns training camp 2017: Your five-minute guide for Monday, Aug. 7
Updated August 07, 2017 Posted August 07, 2017 Joshua Gunter, cleveland.com
Browns training camp 5-minute guide CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Browns start their second week of training camp on Monday, and the focus shifts to the preseason opener against the Saints on Thursday at FirstEnergy Stadium. Practice is from 3:25 to 5:55 p.m. Each day during training camp we’ll start our coverage with this update on the Browns. Call it a five-minute guide to the day ahead (reading speeds may vary). Be sure to watch for our live updates posts daily during training camp. But for now, start the clock. It’s time for your five-minute guide to the day: - By Scott Patsko, cleveland.com
Is a QB change coming? Hue Jackson has hinted that the Orange & Brown Scrimmage would be a benchmark for the quarterbacks, and that the team could return to practice Monday with a new order for reps. Cody Kessler has been first man from OTAs through the first week of camp. Will Brock Osweiler or DeShone Kizer unseat him? Jackson said that whoever starts against the Saints isn’t guaranteed to be the Week 1 starter. "But I'll leave the door open,'' said Jackson. "The guy might go out there and not play as well, so I don't want to shut the door that way. But I also don't want the guy looking over his shoulder, too, 'cause you've got to play."
Is anybody winning the QB competition? Dan Labbe asked that question on Saturday in analyzing the first week of training camp. If anybody is winning, it’s probably not Kessler. “Perhaps the most disappointing element of it is that Cody Kessler, who has been given every opportunity since the spring, hasn’t been able to levy his experience and knowledge of the playbook into making a strong case that he should start on September 10,” Labbe wrote. Labbe also looks at Jamie Collins, Jabrill Peppers and the wide receivers in his camp observations.

Is anyone winning the quarterback derby? 8 Browns training camp observations
Updated August 06, 2017 Posted August 06, 2017 By Dan Labbe, cleveland.com
8 observations from the early part of training camp CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Browns have hit an off-day in their training camp schedule and, more importantly, are barreling towards their first preseason game, a Thursday night matchup with New Orleans.
What better time to take a step back and reset where this team stands. It's too early to talk win totals, but it does feel like this could be another rough season in regards to wins and losses -- not 1-15 rough, but this is a team with a lot of youth and one still looking for its starting quarterback.
We’re still more than a month away from the opener and there will be four preseason games and a massive roster cutdown between now and the game against Pittsburgh. That said, here are eight observations from the first week-plus of training camp.
1. No one is winning the quarterback derby If there’s one consistent theme in the Browns quarterback competition so far, it’s inconsistency. No quarterback has been able to seize any momentum or make any convincing case that he should be “the guy.”
Perhaps the most disappointing element of it is that Cody Kessler, who has been given every opportunity since the spring, hasn’t been able to levy his experience and knowledge of the playbook into making a strong case that he should start on September 10.
The longer the two veterans, Kessler and Brock Osweiler, leave the door open, the more realistic it becomes that head coach Hue Jackson looks at his quarterback room and chooses the upside of DeShone Kizer over known quantities. Kizer, though, for his part, has looked just as inconsistent as the others.
2. There will be growing pains with Kizer Kizer is coming off of a college career that saw him complete 60.7 percent of his passes, including just 58.7 percent last season. He threw 47 touchdown passes but also was intercepted 19 times in two years.
So, if Jackson does go with Kizer, there will be rough patches and they will be significant. That’s life with a rookie quarterback, especially one taken in the middle of the second round.
None of this is to say Kizer can’t eventually get the job done. It’s a reminder that he is still very much a work in progress, a player that, at times, looked like the best quarterback in last year’s draft and, at other times, looked like a quarterback teams should stay away from.
Inconsistency has been the lone consistent element of this competition so far, and that applies to Kizer. If he’s named the starter, the Browns and Jackson are betting on upside.
3. Jamie Collins is setting up to have a huge season Shortly after I tweeted out on Saturday that Collins had returned an interception of Kessler to the endzone, someone tweeted to me, “He’s going to have a monster year, isn’t he?”
Without having played a single preseason game, it sure looks like it. Collins has probably been the best player on the defensive side of the ball since the spring. He’s playing with a high level of energy. He looks like a player who wants to go back to the Pro Bowl.
4. Jabrill Peppers is coming along Peppers has been climbing the safety depth chart, spending time with the first team on Saturday. Friday night, during the Orange and Brown Scrimmage, Peppers showed off his hitting ability a number of times.
Peppers has also shown off his ability to get into the backfield and disrupt the quarterback, too, something defensive coordinator Gregg Williams is going to love.
5. The Browns will have to get creative at wide receiver It’s hard to say right now if all four of the receivers drafted a year ago will make the 53-man roster. Corey Coleman will. Ricardo Louis likely will, too. After that, though, Rashard Higgins and Jordan Payton are going to have to fight for spots with the likes of Rannell Hall, Jordan Leslie, Josh Boyce and others. Both Higgins and Payton have had positive moments in the past week.
Regardless of how the position plays out, the offense will rely heavily on its tight end combo of Seth DeValve and David Njoku catching the ball. Duke Johnson will spend a ton of time in the slot. Those are, outside of Johnson, unproven weapons, but they offer the offense an opportunity to perhaps create some mismatch problems, something that has been rare recently for this team.
6. Speaking of Coleman The second-year wide receiver hasn’t had the dynamic camp he had a season ago, one that was ultimately cut short with a hamstring injury. That said, Coleman has shown some flashes.
The biggest thing for the No. 15 overall pick in last year’s draft is that he’s healthy. Even as a raw receiver last season coming off a shortened training camp, he made an early impact before breaking his hand.
The Browns badly need Coleman’s versatility and playmaking to emerge as the preseason rolls on and, of course, once the real games start. For now, just having him healthy and playing is a positive.
7. The defense should be better I mean, it can’t get much worse. By almost every metric, the Browns were either the worst or one of the worst defensive units in the NFL a season ago.
It does feel like Williams’ scheme is going to help a number of guys, including the players that roll along the defensive line. There are holes -- for example, a lot of questions in the secondary -- and depth is a real issue, but there should be improvement. There has to be.
8. Depth will be an issue everywhere There aren’t many areas where this team will be able to withstand significant injuries. It’s what happens when a roster gets stripped down as this one was in the offseason of 2016.
This is already a team that is going to struggle to win games. If injuries hit early at the wrong spots, things could go south very quickly.

I hate hearing that Coleman looks no better ... it looks like Leslie and Hall are the two best WRs in camp right now
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

Brock Osweiler takes over the driver's seat in the Browns' quarterback competition 2:22 PM ET Tony Grossi ESPN Cleveland Takeaways from Day 10 of Browns training camp … 1. Brock-n-roll: The reaction of the quarterbacks to Hue Jackson’s decision to promote Brock Osweiler to the starting spot this week was, well, muted. Diplomacy reigned. Osweiler wouldn’t even concede he is in the driver’s seat now to start the season Sept. 10 against the Steelers. “This league gives you opportunities,” Osweiler said. “Sometimes you don’t know when they’re going to come, sometimes you do. I think the key is making the most of the opportunities and the rest will take care of itself.” Cody Kessler, who was demoted to No. 2 in the rotation, wouldn’t concede it was a setback. “It’s just another opportunity [to play against the Saints],” he said. “Obviously, it’s coach Jackson’s decision. Only way you can control that is how you play on the field. Control what you can control.” Asked if this is a blow to his confidence, Kessler said, “Absolutely not. I’ll never lose confidence in that situation.” For his part, rookie DeShone Kizer did express disappointment, although his place in the rotation remained the same at No. 3. He did not know if he would continue to receive some first-team reps, as has been the case previously. “I’m a competitor,” Kizer said. “It’s my ultimate goal to be out there playing. I would love to be the guy stepping out there as the starting guy. But until then, this is still part of the process. We’ve been able to have, obviously, a certain path they want me to take. Hopefully, one day I will be the guy to step out there on game day as the first guy. For now, it’s about maximizing opportunities that are given to me.” ADVERTISEMENT 2. Time to separate: It’s impossible not to anoint Osweiler the favorite now to open the real season as starter. Jackson wants to name one by the third preseason game Aug. 26 in Tampa. Having gotten no No. 1 reps through the first nine days, Osweiler has some catching up to do with the projected starters. “Nothing replaces reps and especially game reps,” he said. “Bottom line, there’s still a lot of work that needs to be done and coach Jackson is preaching that every day. So this is just one step. There’s a lot of chemistry to be built. There’s a lot of little fine details that need to be cleared up.” Kizer admitted it’s “very vital” for one of the quarterbacks to separate and step up to be the offensive leader. “There needs to be a pecking order in order for leadership to happen the way it needs to,” Kizer said. “My experience with quarterback competitions was one where there was a 1a. and a 1b. situation. Once we finally defined there is a true No. 1. guy then that guy was able to take it over and communicate the way he needs to. Brock was named that guy and this week he’s already running things the way he wants to run them as a true [No.] 1 quarterback. If that guy does happen to change, then that guy has to step in and treat it as his team. I think this is an awesome opportunity now for me to watch the way Brock takes over this No. 1 spot. He has a lot of experience being a starting quarterback and playing in some big games, and I’m looking forward to learning from the way he approaches the game now.” 3. No, thanks: According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Miami coach Adam Gase inquired to the Browns about Osweiler before concentrating on luring Jay Cutler out of TV analyst retirement. "I think the name Brock Osweiler came up [in Miami] ... I was told Cleveland was not interested in parting ways with him," Schefter said Monday on The Dan Patrick Show. Osweiler, who had a good relationship with Gase when Gase was Peyton Manning’s offensive coordinator in Denver, said, “[I have] no thoughts. Nothing was inquired to me. But I definitely do have a ton of respect and admiration for coach Gase.” 4. Throw it on his face: According to ESPN Cleveland’s Jason Gibbs, Kizer is completing only 51.7 percent of his passes (44 of 85) in team drills through eight practices and one team scrimmage. Accuracy was one of his problems at Notre Dame. He said when Jackson talks to the quarterbacks about accuracy, it’s more about ball position than completion percentage and he lists that as his top priority to improve. “That’s always going to be No. 1,” Kizer said. “This game doesn’t work at the quarterback position if you can’t put the ball to the receiver. The things that separate the guys from good to great are typically being able to complete passes when there’s tough defenders on them, where they’re in man to man situations. It’s up to the quarterback to make sure he puts the ball where it needs to be. When [Jackson] talks accuracy with the quarterbacks, it’s simply ‘put the ball on the guy’s face.’ Make sure it’s where it needs to be. Different routes call for different ball placement. We have to put the ball in their face and in a catchable position.” http://www.espn.com/blog/cleveland/post/...ack-competition

Maybe this will quiet some on here who wish we could get rid of Brock:

Doesn't sound like we want to get rid of Brock to me. Maybe a trade later? I don't know I think he's the best one for now, maybe Kizer will step up.

Scott Petrak ct‏ @ScottPetrak 18s18 seconds ago #Brock Osweiler with some nice throws today, especially on go routes down the sideline.
Following all the tweets I'd say Brock is having his best day of camp.

It's only one day... but if this goes on, it lends credence to the "just needed a change of scenery" story.
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.
