I love that Hue gets angry over something that should make him angry. To me that shows that he is a real coach. Let the players know that if they play like crap, practice like crap, then they will feel the IRE of an angry coach. It's much better for discipline than wishy washiness of the past.

Did anyone notice how much Pryor played against the Saints? Just thinking out loud that he could be a man on the chopping block
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

It's the first time that I recall Hue doing it, but I like it just the same. The team needs more tough love, not less. If I recall correctly, we were a highly undisciplined team last year, especially on offense. Glad Hue's had enough.

I don't mind the stats......but what does this mean? I copied Hogans totals.... Kevin Hogan, 6 of 8, 29 of 48 overall.
What does the 29 of 48 mean? Is that the completion numbers for all of camp? thats the only thing I can come up with. Must be. When talking about a game I have never seen a season total included. Thanks

It is, but I think peen was being sarcastic. At least I hope so....LOL No, I was being serious. I have never seen a camp total or season total attached to a game stat.

Browns still clamping down on concentration penalties Editor's note: Tony Grossi covers the Cleveland Browns for ESPN 850 WKNR. More takeaways from Day 13 of Browns training camp … 1. Back to drawing board: Sloppiness in the first preseason game (12 penalties) and on the practice field has caused Hue Jackson to use this extended time before the Giants game on Aug. 21 to “clean up” some things. The coach now has zero tolerance for “concentration penalties.” “We are not going to stand for [them],” Jackson said. False-start penalties resulted in a lap around the practice field for offensive linemen Kit O’Brien and Cam Erving. Safety Jabrill Peppers dropped down and did five “up-downs” after dropping an interception. Later, after Isaiah Crowell blasted through the middle of the defense, cut outside, hesitated deftly for a downfield block by receiver Rashard Higgins and completed a touchdown jaunt of 61 yards in a live-tackling period, coordinator Gregg Williams had the victimized unit do up-downs. In the middle of the practice, Jackson called a full squad huddle on the field. He declined to say why. 2. Sirens blaring: For the first time, Jackson had three siren periods of live tackling over the last 60 minutes of practice. On the first play in the first round, Brock Osweiler connected with Corey Coleman, who beat Jamar Taylor and then shook him off to complete a 75-yard touchdown. Later, Coleman sneaked on the second-team unit, lined up in the left slot and received a touchdown pass in the left corner from Cody Kessler. The ball looked to go right through the hands of cornerback Najee Murray. 3. Tough throwing: Not the greatest day for the quarterbacks. In two-minute drills, Osweiler and Kessler were retired on downs and DeShone Kizer was intercepted by cornerback Channing Stribling throwing for Rasheed Bailey. Kessler was intercepted by Trey Caldwell on a ball deflected high off the hands of Jordan Payton. Kizer was the only QB of the three not to find the end zone in any team drill, and his practice ended when he tripped over a lineman dropping back. Overall, the four quarterbacks, counting Kevin Hogan, were a combined 25 of 47 while throwing in team drills. 4. Decision on hold: Jackson said he doesn’t expect to name his starting quarterback for the Giants game until Wednesday or Thursday. “Honestly, right now, like I said, we are in this ‘training camp mode,’” he said. “We are not thinking about New York. We are trying to get better. There are some things from this last game we needed to clean up. We are working through those, and we will continue to do that. The quarterback thing, as I go through practice and keep watching tape, will sort itself out. It is not the thing that is heavy on my mind that way. Obviously, we need to make a decision when the time comes and we will, but right now today, I still think it is too early.” 5. Brownie bits: Defensive tackle Caleb Brantley celebrated his return to team drills after a broken finger with a skirmish with center Anthony Fabiano. Punches were thrown, and landed … Possible new breakout player to watch: safety Justin Currie. The 6-2, 212-pound former practice squadder worked with the first team in place of Ibraheim Campbell (concussion). “He can cover,” Jackson said. “He is tough and knows how to play around the ball. He covers tight ends pretty well. We feel good about what he brings to the table.” … Jackson said there has been “a little movement” in the kicking competition, but it’s still kind of close. Rookie Zane Gonzalez made two extra points in the first game and was chosen to kick a field goal at the end of the second siren period Sunday. Cody Parkey and Gonzalez shared kickoffs in the Saints game. “That thing is going to show itself pretty soon,” Jackson said. 6. Quarterback update: Per ESPN Cleveland’s Jason Gibbs, the passing numbers from Sunday and overall through 13 days: Kessler, 9 of 17, one touchdown, one interception; 82 of 127 overall (64 percent); Osweiler, 8 of 14, one TD; 109 of 182 overall (60 percent); Kizer, 5 of 11, one INT; 70 of 127 overall (55 percent); Hogan, 3 of 5; 29 of 48 (60 percent). http://www.espn.com/blog/cleveland/post/...ation-penalties

Browns training camp snapshot (Day 13): Corey Coleman says he’s on track to becoming No. 1 WR, practices like it Published: August 13, 2017 - 6:48 PM | Updated: August 13, 2017 - 7:59 PM Sunday’s developments Corey Coleman gave his definition of a No. 1 wide receiver during an interview before the Browns practiced. A few hours later, he went on the field and looked like a top-flight threat in the passing game. In March, Browns coach Hue Jackson publicly challenged Coleman to become the team’s No. 1 receiver. Coleman’s definition is as follows: “A guy who makes plays when it’s called for him, a guy who’s got to be a leader around here among the receivers because a lot of guys are going to look up to you, and a guy who does the right thing when no one’s even around watching.” Asked if he’s on course to becoming a lead receiver, Coleman said, “I feel like I am. I’ve been working my butt off each and every day in every aspect of my game.” The 15th overall pick in last year’s draft, Coleman caught a pass from quarterback Brock Osweiler on a go route against cornerback Jamar Taylor, slipped out of Taylor’s would-be tackle and ran about 45 yards for a 70-yard touchdown. He made a couple of other impressive catches and grabbed a 6-yard touchdown pass from Cody Kessler, though he may have pushed a defender to create separation in the back left corner of the end zone. “He’s getting better,” Jackson said. The key for Coleman will be staying healthy, something he hasn’t been able to do in his young NFL career. • Coleman received his first chance to publicly comment on the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office clearing him last week in an assault investigation. “I’m moving past that, man,” he said. “I’m strictly football. I don’t want to answer any questions about that, to be honest.” • During a typical padded practice, a siren sounds to signal a live contact period once or twice. But this time, Jackson used three siren periods a day after interceptions and penalties angered him. “Just getting our team better,” Jackson said. “Whatever it takes to get our football team better. So I think we need to compete. We’ve got some things we’ve got to keep cleaning up, get better at.” • Offensive linemen Cameron Erving and Kitt O’Brien ran laps for committing false-start penalties. “It’s either that or up-downs. Choose your poison,” Jackson said. “We can’t do it. We’re not going to hurt our football team with penalties and things that I know get us beat. … Concentration penalties, we’re not going to stand for.” • The offense didn’t fare well in the two-minute drill. Osweiler and the first unit stalled, with him throwing the ball away on fourth-and-4. Cody Kessler and the second unit moved into position for what would have been a 55-yard field goal. And rookie DeShone Kizer’s pass intended for receiver Rasheed Bailey was intercepted by rookie cornerback Channing Stribling. • During the final period of practice, Kizer fell after he took a snap from under center, apparently because a lineman stepped on his foot. Kizer appeared to be fine, but Jackson replaced him with Kevin Hogan. “I told him I was going to play him two plays and let Kevin play a little bit,” Jackson said. • Kessler had a pass intercepted when rookie Najee Murray tipped it and fellow cornerback Trey Caldwell intercepted it. • Rookie defensive tackle Caleb Brantley returned to team drills after undergoing finger surgery early in camp. He lost his helmet as he fought center Anthony Fabiano late in practice and had to be calmed down by Jackson. “I don’t like fights, but it’s going to happen,” Jackson said. “Just as long as we do them the right way. As long as we handle them right. I think that’s over and done with. It was quick, to the point and done.” • This is how Jackson described the kicking competition between Cody Parkey and rookie Zane Gonzalez: “There’s a little movement. I think it’s kind of close. I’m not going to say which way it is.” • Running back Isaiah Crowell broke loose for a 66-yard touchdown run. • With strong safety Ibraheim Campbell (concussion) sitting out, Justin Currie has been practicing with the starters. “He can cover. He’s tough,” Jackson said. “He knows how to play around the ball, covers tight ends pretty well. We feel good about what he brings to the table.” • Defensive end Nate Orchard had a strong preseason opener, with two tackles, including a half sack, coming off a season in which the 2015 second-round pick missed the final 13 games with a high-ankle sprain. “My mindset and my focus ever since my injury is I visualize myself coming back and being successful,” he said. “I’m going to continue to do that.” Orchard also conceded he’s more comfortable playing end in coordinator Gregg Williams’ 4-3 scheme than outside linebacker in the Browns’ old 3-4 system. As a senior end at Utah, he had 18.5 sacks. • The Browns hosted 11 alumni at practice, including Don Cockroft, Bob Golic, Cleo Miller, Greg Pruitt, Dick Ambrose, Frank Stams and Larry Williams. “Those guys are the guys that paved the way,” Jackson said. Monday’s schedule: Practice is closed to the public. The next open practice is set to run from 3:25-5:55 p.m. Tuesday. — Nate Ulrich https://www.ohio.com/akron/sports/browns...actices-like-it

Notes: Corey Coleman says he’s working to be the No. 1 WR Hue Jackson demands by Scott Petrak August 13, 2017 BEREA — Corey Coleman was drafted No. 15 last year to be the Browns’ No. 1 receiver. Coach Hue Jackson has made it abundantly clear this offseason that Coleman needs to fulfill that role and responsibility this season. Coleman, who caught only 33 passes for 413 yards and three touchdowns as a rookie, provided his definition of a No. 1 receiver Sunday before practice. “A guy who makes plays when it’s called for him, a guy who’s got to be a leader around here among the receivers because a lot of guys are going to look up to you, and a guy who does the right thing when no one’s even around watching,” he said. “Know that I’m trying to get better, and I feel like that’s what really a solid No. 1 is.” ADVERTISEMENT Is he on course to be all those things? “I feel like I am,” he said. “I’ve been working my butt off each and every day in every aspect of my game.” Coleman ran a nice route on a double move Saturday in a one-on-one drill only to drop the pass. He rebounded with an out, a hook and a comeback, then capped the afternoon with a leaping catch on a deep out. All the throws came from Brock Osweiler. “He needs to,” Jackson said when Coleman’s catches were referenced. “He’s got to keep getting better. That’s what he’s doing. He’s working hard, trying to get better.” Coleman is being to stack productive practices. He caught five passes in team drills Sunday, including a pair of touchdowns. “He is getting better,” Jackson said. Coleman missed most of the offseason program with shoulder and hamstring injuries, and the Browns have managed his practice schedule in training camp. He had two catches for 11 yards Thursday in the preseason opener against the Saints. “I’m feeling good, just taking it day by day, working on my body with the trainers, still doing treatment and stuff, just taking it all in,” he said. “I’ve got some big goals for the season. I’m excited for the season, too. We look really good. We’ve been working really hard. I’m just ready for everybody to see the work we’ve been doing.” Coleman was cleared last week in an assault investigation, as the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office announced it won’t file charges. “I’m moving past that, man,” Coleman said. “I’m strictly football. I don’t want to answer any questions about that, to be honest, sir.” IT’S GO TIME Jackson sounds the siren when it’s time for the live-tackling periods, and he set it off three times Sunday, which is once or twice more than during a normal practice. “Just getting our team better,” he said. “Whatever it takes to get our football team better. We need to compete. We have some things we have to keep cleaning up and get better at. Plus, I knew our alumni would be out here today so let’s let them see a little taste of what football is all about. Those guys are the guys that paved the way.” Linebacker Dick Ambrose, defensive lineman Bob Golic and running back Greg Pruitt were among the 11 alumni who saw three spirited sessions. In addition to Coleman’s touchdowns, Isaiah Crowell had a 66-yard touchdown run to the right side, receiving a key block from receiver Ricardo Louis. Trey Caldwell had an interception, rookie Jabrill Peppers dropped an interception, rookie Matthew Dayes ran for 23 yards on fourth-and-3 and Duke Johnson was stopped on fourth-and-2. The final period ended with a fight between rookie defensive tackle Caleb Brantley and offensive lineman Anthony Fabiano that included punches and Brantley’s helmet coming off. TOUGHNESS ON DISPLAY Cornerback Briean Boddy-Calhoun celebrated like it was more than the third quarter of the preseason opener when he dropped New Orleans’ Tommylee Lewis for a 7-yard loss on an end-around on fourth-and-goal from the 2-yard line. Boddy-Calhoun believed he showed something with the physical play. “When you have corners showing that you can tackle — that is something that (defensive coordinator) Coach (Gregg) Williams wants to do with this group — it sends a message to the offense,” he said. “You are not going to be able to crack wide receivers and put us in one-on-one situations with the running backs. We do that with a lot of confidence, so I think that does show something.” Boddy-Calhoun is slated to be the No. 4 cornerback behind Joe Haden, Jamar Taylor and Jason McCourty and has worked outside and in the slot. EXTRA POINTS Brantley practiced in team drills for the first time since having surgery to repair a broken finger. ** Rookie tight end David Njoku (back) also returned to team drills. ** Defensive back Marcus Burley participated in the walkthrough portion without a helmet. He’s recovering from a nasty cut near his eye. ** Undrafted rookie cornerback Channing Stribling intercepted DeShone Kizer in the two-minute drill. ** Fabiano was running hot all day. After rookie defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi jumped offside and made contact in a line drill, Fabiano threw the ball at him, then pancaked him on the next repetition. https://www.brownszone.com/2017/08/13/no...ackson-demands/

A few comments/questions:
--Glad to hear the coaching staff is holding the players accountable. I am all for making guys run or do things like up-downs for mental errors, but I caution them to use them for physical errors.
--Did Brantley get into a fight w/punches thrown after returning from a broken finger? Did I read that right?
--Currie was a guy I mentioned in a positive way on the Postgame thread in the Game Day forum. He looked much better than the other safeties. He gets to the ball and isn't out of position like the other stiffs.
--Still waiting to hear more about #52, the Mike. I forget his name. But, he really stood out in the game. Wonder how he is doing in practice?
--I hope people back off on the Kizer starting thing a bit, but I doubt that will happen. LOL

Yes, Brantley got into a fight the day he returned from missing time with a broken finger.
52 is James Burgess. I haven't heard anything about him coming out of camp.

We desperately need Coleman to play like he was drafted and expected ... he SHOULD be a #1 WR. I've questioned the pick since it was made, but now's his time to produce.

Thanks. I suspect Brantley is a head case.
Burgess was very good the other night. Trust me on that one.

Who in the hell is this Currie guy?
Half the players on the field the other night I didn't even recognize. Maybe it's because I only have so much attention to give on a daily basis.
Sterup?
Burgess?
But I think it would be cool if a no name came out of nowhere and made the team. Play the best players.
I hope they don't stick with Gonzalez just because they drafted him vs. Parkey if it's close. I like Parkey.
And if Leslie is catching everything in practice and the games, they better find a spot for him as well.

Those two guys just stood out for me the other night. If you have time, check out my comments in the Postgame thread. I mentioned both as playing well.

I think most of us know that these guys get lined up in different places.
For example..........did any of you notice the times when we lined up in a 3-4 the other night?

I saw your comments and noticed him in the game as well. I just assumed he was camp fodder when I saw his name on the depth chart. Now Hue is giving him some pretty nice praise.
But that's how teams become great. Great drafting, great scouting, always on the lookout for players that will bring competition and might be good system fits. I mean look at Coley. Some of these guys have bounced around a little and just need to find the right situation for them.
I think our FO is doing a really good job in bringing in players from the draft, from udfa, from other team's practice squads, waiver wire. Really good job.
You have to get lucky on a few long shots to be really great, IMO.

I'll have to watch the replay to be sure. Only if we are not in the 43 with a MIKE. Schobert is playing the MIKE with the two's (soon to be with the one's) and Olugbode with the three's. Burgess at SAM and Alexander at the WILL with the two's.

It's almost feels like we drafted last year, with the forethought of switching to a base four man defensive front this season and I think that two players drafted last year that have benefited the most from switch to the 43 are two guys who seemed out of place in the 34.
Foremost being Schobert, but also Nassib and all of a sudden the Draft of 2016 is looking a little better. (at the risk of speaking somewhat prematurly.)

Browns are finding positives in Brock Osweiler's game Facebook Twitter Editor's note: Tony Grossi covers the Cleveland Browns for ESPN 850 WKNR. Takeaways from Day 13 of Browns training camp … 1. Brock of ages: As the DeShone Kizer bandwagon accelerates like the bus in the movie Speed, the Browns have to justify playing Brock Osweiler beyond just the point that Kizer “is not ready.” Quarterbacks coach David Lee offered a few positive observations of Osweiler before practice. “He did a lot of really good things [in the preseason opener against the Saints],” Lee said. “He threw the … ball to Kenny Britt [in the end zone]. Kenny’s got one foot down. If he can drag [the other] down, we’ve got a touchdown. He misses Seth [DeValve] about four inches going in. I mean, there’s 14 points in 28 plays or something. He was close. He was jacked up. He was feeling it. He’s doing fine.” Lee said that Osweiler is totally caught up to Hue Jackson’s playbook now. “He studies so hard,” Lee said. “I can’t tell you how hard he prepares. And he is excellent at the line of scrimmage. When I first came into this league … the first vet [I was around] was Vinny Testaverde. Then it was [Drew] Bledsoe after him. Then we had [Tony] Romo and [Chad] Pennington. This guy we’ve got, as far as at the line of scrimmage and in the huddle, he may be better than all of them. He is so clear. He’s talking in the huddle, at the line. He is just a pro in that area. I’m sure his time with Peyton [Manning] has paid off.” Lee agreed that we should see quantum improvement from Osweiler in Game 2 against the Giants. 2. Cornerback update: The idea of moving Jason McCourty to free safety has been pretty much scrapped. Defensive backs coach DeWayne Walker said that when the Browns go to three cornerbacks, right now McCourty is the third cornerback – first one in against three-receiver sets – ahead of Briean Boddy-Calhoun. “At this stage of it, McCourty [is third] based off his experience,” Walker said. “Not that we’d be afraid to play Boddy out there.” And when McCourty comes in, he and Joe Haden will play outside and Taylor drops down to cover the slot receiver. As an unheralded rookie claimed off waivers at the start of the year, Boddy-Calhoun had a good year, co-leading the team with three interceptions and starting six games. He played exclusively on the outside. This year, Boddy-Calhoun is also taking reps inside as the backup slot corner. Walker said the challenge for Boddy-Calhoun is “consistency in just being able to handle the load of what both positions entail. He’s fine. He’s a smart player.” 3. Is he No. 1?: Corey Coleman is pleased with the way his second training camp is being managed (he’s on a pitch count) to prevent hamstring issues. He said he has improved from a year ago in “knowledge of the offense and scheme, and stuff … proper depths of routes, and stuff … the big picture.” In March, Jackson implored Coleman to step up and be the team’s No. 1 receiver. So I asked Coleman what is his definition of a No. 1 receiver. “ A guy who makes plays when it’s called for him,” he answered. “A guy, you’ve got to be a leader around here because a lot of guys are going to look up to you. A guy who does the right thing when no one’s around watching … know that I’m trying to get better. I feel that’s what it’s all about being No. 1.” Is he on track for that? “I feel I am,” Coleman said. “I’ve been working my butt off each and every day [on] every aspect of my game.” http://www.espn.com/blog/cleveland//post/_/id/3658

Thanks. I suspect Brantley is a head case.
Burgess was very good the other night. Trust me on that one. ** Fabiano was running hot all day. After rookie defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi jumped offside and made contact in a line drill, Fabiano threw the ball at him, then pancaked him on the next repetition. It sounds like Fabiano might be the head case this time.

From all of the Sunday recaps of practice it sounds like the team is refocusing on training camp improvement. Cleaning up mistakes, continuing to work on technique and just having a high level of execution in all phases. After Saturday's lackluster practice it sounds encouraging that the team was able to regain concentration on the things it takes to win.
Supposedly they are entering the longest stretch of consecutive practices of training camp. This is where guys have to stack good practices on top of each other.

Burgess was very good the other night. Trust me on that one. Burgess practiced with the ones today (8/13) because Jamie Collins had a rest day. He had a pretty crazy 2016: Originally signed by the Miami Dolphins as an undrafted free agent on May 6, 2016…Waived by the Dolphins on Sept. 3, 2016…Added to the Dolphins’ practice squad on Sept. 5, 2016…Released from the Dolphins’ practice squad on Sept. 13, 2016…Added to the San Diego Chargers’ practice squad on Nov. 1, 2016…Released from the Chargers’ practice squad on Nov. 14, 2016…Added to the Jacksonville Jaguars’ practice squad on Dec. 7, 2016…Released from the Jaguars’ practice squad on Dec. 16, 2016….Added to the Cleveland Browns’ practice squad on Dec. 20, 2016…Signed by Browns on Jan. 2, 2016. http://www.clevelandbrowns.com/team/roster/James-Burgess/820aa752-4f86-42f1-8a4b-67d7940e6891

Yeah, Coley is another guy who looked good. Not sure if I mentioned him or not. If I didn't, I should have. I thought that the 2nd team DL of; Nassib, Coley, Meder and, Orchard played well. Agreed. I hope all of these guys make the team. D-line is a real battle at this point. Especially with the drafting of Brantley and Big Larry, who didn't stand out to me in the opener but were drafted. Really like what I saw outta Orchard

interesting that mccourty at FS is now a scrapped plan. the coaches must feel comfortable with the safeties (or McCourty sucked there)
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

yeah, i think the penalties were a big concern for Hue after last week ... especially on the OL. we just can't afford that, whether it's with Brock or Kizer.

I think that was his point. The guy Brantley scuffled with started something with a different player over some contact. So maybe Brantley isn't the problem. Maybe he is, but maybe he ain't.

Yeah, Fabiano was involved in both altercations. He might have started both.
I just found it pretty stupid to throw punches on the first day you return from a broken finger. I also factored in his past.
Of course, I could be wrong.
