He had to go. There was no way possible to keep him on board and have any sort of credibility coming out of the administration, especially after the current events that just happened.

I wonder if Bannon will keep his mouth shut about what was going on in the WH, or does he start spilling the beans in the next few weeks...

Do u think its possible for the WH to gain any credibility coming out of the admin? ... if so, what would need to happen?

I've heard a few different theories ... one had him handing in his resignation as early as 8/6 ...

I'd love to know why he actually left and what actually happend? ...

Will be interesting to see what he says now ... what he does or doesn't say may be very telling as to what actually happend ...

I do think it would be easy for the WH to gain some credibility back, or at the very least, take a lot of heat off of themselves.

but bro, it takes Trump leading for any of that to happen. every president has a massive screw up or two that they just aren't gonna really redeem themselves from that situation. Obama had his middle east disasters, Bush had iraq and hurricane Katrina, Clinton had the sex scandal, etc etc.

So this is Trump's. this part of American history will go down as a negative, and Trump's name will be attached to it, fair or not, because of how he went about the situation.

So he has to nail a lot of things. He needs to stop pushing off task on everybody else and lead, bro.

i know how you feel about the ACA so that's not where i'm going with this, But obama went out there every damn day to sell the American people and congress on the ACA. he rallied the troops to get it passed, and then he kept hammering on it throughout his presidency.

Trump HAS to go out there and preach about his policies, he HAS to go out there in front of the media and take the criticism and such. he can't keep running back to his golf courses and Trump tower every time the heat gets turned up on him.

you know how many times i've heard obama and the presidents before him say "this is my responsibility" or "the buck stops with me" and other variations of that?

Diam, when are we gonna get that from Trump? the failure of the GOP health care bill is everyone else's fault but his, according to him. he said he knew more than the generals. where are his ideas for afghanistan? why is he targeting our military even though he has the power to set strategy?

and the CEO council disbanding did not do him any favors whatsoever.

it would be easy to gain some credibility, but it takes Trump growing a pair and taking charge. he just isn't doing that right now.

if i was Trump, i don't make any more statements on the events that happened recently. just lick your wounds and move on. it's gonna forever be there, learn to live with it now.

So was this Trump's sacrificial lamb (scapegoat) for his Nazi faux pas? The timing is suspect to me, a way to change the conversation and turn down the heat? If so, how does this change anything? Bannon didn't make the 'many sides' statements.

I'm very happy Bannon is out, but 'the fish is rotten from the head down.'

I suspect that the heat won't subside until Miller and Gorka are out of there, too. And it won't be coming from the public or the press- it will be coming from the inside.

The Generals are bringing in the fumigation equipment and aiming for all the corners. It might be the only thing to lend credibility to this WH.

I read different things on the date as well. With all of the leaks we've heard of, I'd almost be surprised if it was the 6th.

I did read something earlier that a Breitbart editor tweeted #War or something to that effect. The troubles (or "troubles" if you prefer) of the administration might get even more interesting if they start fighting the WH.

Considering the instability, I'll post this here

6 out of 10 trump supporters, whom said they approve of trump, said they would never disapprove of his performance, CNN.

That's scary to me, considering the majority of his contingency are the south (see segregation), the uneducated, and the elderly. I'm not so worried about the elderly, for obvious reasons. It's the south and uneducated that give me concern. Ignorance being the unifying theme there.

Bannon: 'The Trump Presidency That We Fought For, and Won, Is Over.'

Departed White House strategist speaks to THE WEEKLY STANDARD.
6:18 PM, AUG 18, 2017 | By PETER J. BOYER

With the departure from the White House of strategist Stephen K. Bannon, who helped shape the so-called nationalist-populist program embraced by Donald Trump in his unlikely path to election, a new phase of the Trump presidency begins. Given Trump’s nature, what comes next will hardly be conventional, but it may well be less willfully disruptive—which, to Bannon, had been the point of winning the White House.

“The Trump presidency that we fought for, and won, is over,” Bannon said Friday, shortly after confirming his departure. “We still have a huge movement, and we will make something of this Trump presidency. But that presidency is over. It’ll be something else. And there’ll be all kinds of fights, and there’ll be good days and bad days, but that presidency is over.”

Bannon says that he will return to the helm of Breitbart, the rambunctious right-wing media enterprise he ran until joining the Trump campaign as chief executive last August. At the time, the campaign was at its nadir, and Trump was trailing Hillary Clinton in the polls by double digits.

Although his influence with the president waxed and waned, Bannon’s standing in the Trump circle was always precarious. Among the senior advisers competing with Bannon in trying to shape Trump’s agenda, and his tone, were the president’s daughter, Ivanka, and son-in-law, Jared. Bannon pointedly voiced criticism of those in the president’s sphere whom he considered to be globalists, or liberals (or both), and the president himself plainly bristled over the early attention that Bannon got from the press (including a Time magazine cover, which is said to have particularly irked Trump).

Bannon says that his departure was voluntary, and that he’d planned it to coincide with the one-year anniversary of his joining the Trump campaign as chief executive, on August 14, 2016.

“On August 7th , I talked to [Chief of Staff John] Kelly and to the President, and I told them that my resignation would be effective the following Monday, on the 14th,” he said. “I’d always planned on spending one year. General Kelly has brought in a great new system, but I said it would be best. I want to get back to Breitbart.”

Bannon says that with the tumult in Charlottesville last weekend, and the political fallout since, Trump, Kelly, and he agreed to delay Bannon’s departure, but that he and Kelly agreed late this week that now was the time for Bannon to leave.

Bannon may have resigned, but it was clear from the time that Kelly became chief of staff that Bannon’s remaining time in the West Wing was going to be short. Kelly undertook a study of the West Wing’s operating system, and let it be known that he kept hearing about Bannon as a disruptive force and a source of leaks aimed at undermining his rivals. One of those, with whom Kelly is deeply in sympathy, is National Security Adviser H. R. McMaster, who clashed forcefully with Bannon over such policies as strategy for the war in Afghanistan.

It is plainly Bannon’s view that his departure is not a defeat for him personally, but for the ideology he’d urged upon the president, as reflected in Trump’s provocative inaugural address—in which he spoke of self-dealing Washington politicians, and their policies that led to the shuttered factories and broken lives of what he called “American carnage.” Bannon co-authored that speech (and privately complained that it had been toned down by West Wing moderates like Ivanka and Jared).

And, he says, Trump encouraged him to take on the Republican establishment. “I said, ‘look, I’ll focus on going after the establishment.’ He said, ‘good, I need that.’ I said, ‘look, I’ll always be here covering for you.’”

So is the swamp drained now? Or draining? Or done?

I am tired of winning so much, just as promised. This is getting pretty rough to watch.

Curiouser and curiouser.

Like Pogo, I think it was, in a comic strip of my youth: "We have met the enemy and he is us." Or to that effect.

I think more will fall and soon. I also think Bannon was red meat for those outraged over Trump's comments on Charlottesville. My problem (even though I'm happy Bannon is out) is that Trump himself is the real problem and he's the one who has to go. I also think republicans are starting to feel that way too, but they are afraid of Trump's hardcore base.

Trump makes me mad for another reason that's not political, I'm getting fat from all the popcorn. smile

The swamp will never be drained until they remove money from politics. Period. There is less than ZERO chance Trump will do that.

And you are right, if this is what winning looks like, I damn sure don't want to see his version of losing.

Good point, I think the shrinking middle class is still a problem not being addressed. Our teachers need to be paid more, and less admirable professions need to be paid less.

I'm not trying to undermine a capatalist system, I just think it's a problem when 5% of Americans control 90% of the wealth, or something like that.

Another interesting post .... sorry to interrupt your riveting convo's with Eve and Vers ... i hope u don't mind ... wink

I do think it would be easy for the WH to gain some credibility back, or at the very least, take a lot of heat off of themselves.

Once again you've shocked me ... never expected that answer .. u won't shock me again ... I'm ready for u now ... *L* ...

Do u think he could ever have any credibility with the major networks and cnn, msnbc and papers like The NY Times and WaPo? ...

but bro, it takes Trump leading for any of that to happen. every president has a massive screw up or two that they just aren't gonna really redeem themselves from

So this is Trump's. this part of American history will go down as a negative, and Trump's name will be attached to it, fair or not, because of how he went about the situation.

Your prolly right ... he has a way of saying things to pee everyone off then what sometimes seems is the next day something happens to justify the outlandish statement he made ... well in this case ... that's not going to happen ... because of how he handled this ... everytime theres a protest and counter protests and violence ... there all going to point to him ...

Fair or not, this will be be blot on his presidency ...

So he has to nail a lot of things. He needs to stop pushing off task on everybody else and lead, bro.

I agree .. the press and the dems and the repubs all hate him .. he's got his hands full with the bs from them .. and then he goes and weather he was right or wrong (I'm not saying he was right, just making a point) on this one .. he gives them all the ammo they need .. he took the focus off of everything good he did last week .. and there was two or three real good things accomplished last week ...

ITS A SELF INFLICTED WOUND in a man whose getting shot at from all sides ... sometimes hes not so good at marketing .. MORON ...

i know how you feel about the ACA so that's not where i'm going with this,

We'll get there .. very curious as to your thoughts on that and the reasoning behind them ....

I agree again on how Obama sold it ... i admire that about the libs ... they go out and present their case and don't back down ... one of their problems right now is they don't really have a platform .. just like with the repubs, theres to many factions ...

We'll see what happpens inthe mid terms and in 3 years from November ...

Trump HAS to go out there and preach about his policies, he HAS to go out there in front of the media and take the criticism and such. he can't keep running back to his golf courses and Trump tower every time the heat gets turned up on him.

Thats not fair .. say what u want about Trump .. he's a fighter and he don't run and hide ... thats not fair swish ... also he worked harder on vaca than most due when their at the White House ... he doesn't take vacation ...

Quite frankly and i think you'll agree with this .. he'd of been better off running and hiding after his comments on Monday ... his EGO made him go out there on Tuesday and put himself squarely behind the 8 ball ... someone who hides and cowhers would have never done that ..

you know how many times i've heard obama and the presidents before him say "this is my responsibility" or "the buck stops with me" and other variations of that?

I get your point and thats really what matters ... Trump reminds me of the Fonz ... the fonz couldn't say he was wrong no matter how hard he tried ... I'll never forget that scene .. *LOL* ... and thats another one of trumps many faults ...

I was going to ask for some examples from Obama ... but thats not the point here or what matters ..

Point taken ...

the failure of the GOP health care bill is everyone else's fault but his,

It is Swish .. he can't ram it down the senates throat .. u know that .. U made a good point about Obama selling it ... but he had a different sale to make ... he had the votes .. he had to sell it to the public .... not one dem broke ranks if i remember correctly .. and a few repubs thought it was a good idea ... no one even knew what was in it .. sheesh ... OK .. back on point Diam .. *L* ..

according to him. he said he knew more than the generals.

That was campaign BS, LIES and u know it .. hes a pompous ass but hes not stupid ...

where are his ideas for afghanistan?

He has Mattis, McMaster and Kelly and many other military people helping set that strategy ... he also said he's not going to telegraph stuff ... and having served, I'm sure u know the value of that .. i know i do ..

why is he targeting our military even though he has the power to set strategy?

Not sure what u mean by targeting .. when he was on the campaign trail or since he's been elected .. if after he's been elected, please elaborate ...

and the CEO council disbanding did not do him any favors whatsoever.

Thats not good .. for anyone ... we'll talk about that later ...

if i was Trump, i don't make any more statements on the events that happened recently. just lick your wounds and move on. it's gonna forever be there, learn to live with it now.

I agree ... unfortunately for all of us .. that just isn't in his nature ...

He's his own worst enemy sometimes .. and this is clearly one of them ...

Again .. i apologize for interrupting your scintillating convo with Vers and Eve .. *L* ..

If Trump wants to regain any sort of credibility or salvage his presidency I think he needs to make a huge bipartisan swing. He needs to ask Dems and GOP to work together on healthcare and tax reform. He needs to move to the center. Doing that would shift pressure to congress and make him look like he wants to bring change and fix the issues that got him elected.

Moving farther right will end him. Continuing to fight with the Congressional GOP will end him. A bipartisan swing is all I can see working. Give the people what they want and they will like you, not some of the people but all or at least most of the people. Stop focusing on the rich and big business and focus on the working man.

He will never do it, but that's a way out.

you didn't interrupt anything. I was just entertaining the children. you know how kids get right before they have to go to bed, start throwing hissy fits.

anyway, back to our grown up conversation:

"Do u think he could ever have any credibility with the major networks and cnn, msnbc and papers like The NY Times and WaPo?"

sure, because contrary to popular belief, they have already praised him on some of the things he's done.

what he's done for veterans? i feel it hasn't been reported enough by ANYBODY. that includes fox news, briebart, and other conservative outlets.

streamlining the system that way the VA has direct access to health records from the military? bro do you have any idea how much faster the claims for service members getting out of the military is about to go now? it's still the government, so it will always be sort of slow, but that's gonna be a night and day difference compared to what we use to have.

ask anybody who's ETS/med boarded out of the military. it use to be that during clearing, you would go to the hospital and have to print out this freaking encyclopedia of your medical records, then lug that crap to the VA office so that they could go through the entire freaking thing while processing your claim.

my medical records alone looked like they had to cut down an entire sequoia tree just to print my crap out.

that was a HUGE win for Trump.

another win was him and congress taking off the time restriction for when veterans could use their GI Bill. that was an issue that wasn't really on anybody's radar, but was a significant problem amongst vets. another huge win for Trump.

and yea, the "liberal" media types did praise him for that.

the issue has always been that whenever Trump does score a win, he screws it up with all this dysfunction coming out of the administration. He's his own worst enemy when it comes to the media, bro.

"Thats not fair .. say what u want about Trump .. he's a fighter and he don't run and hide ... thats not fair swish ... also he worked harder on vaca than most due when their at the White House ... he doesn't take vacation ...

Quite frankly and i think you'll agree with this .. he'd of been better off running and hiding after his comments on Monday ... his EGO made him go out there on Tuesday and put himself squarely behind the 8 ball ... someone who hides and cowhers would have never done that .."

i think it's absolutely fair. The guy has already eclipse the entire number of golf trips obama took in an 8 year time period. a lot of conservatives, specifically damn near ALL of them on this board, use to do nothing but whine about Obama's golf trips and vacations.

well.....where's that same outrage now? I have you seen the bulk of conservatives cry about Trump's golf trips on this board, or across the nation? i sure haven't.

unfortunately, this is one of those issues that fall into the "as long as it's my guy doing it i don't care" situation.

the work ethic he claimed he had during the campaign trail isn't coming close to matching the work ethic we are seeing from him as president.

and the sad part about it is that it's a ridiculously easy fix.

It is Swish .. he can't ram it down the senates throat .. u know that

why not? he told all of us he already had a plan that will cover everybody and be cheaper. This falls back into him not being an effective leader right now.

So, let's chalk it up to it being another one of those campaign promises presidents make that really wasn't gonna happen. fine.

that doesn't excuse the fact that he's the leader of the GOP. so if congress came up with this plan, and remember: HE said he had pen in hand ready to sign, that means it's his responsibility to go out there and market his party's plan.

you can NOT take a hands off approach to something YOU campaign on. he campaigned against the ACA, so yea, it's his responsibility as a leader of not only the country, but the GOP, to market the GOP bill to the American people. He didn't do that. he was just gonna sign whatever craptastic nonsense the GOP put on his desk. That's not leadership, bro.

What I meant about him setting strategy is that he has the power to determine what we do in afghanistan. does he want to withdrawal, do another surge, etc?

there's a lot of things you can push off on the generals, but long term strategy in the region with regards to how we go about military operations overseas is part of the president's responsibility as commander in chief. He's suppose to provide direction; the military is suppose to execute.

and yes we agree that the guy should've made his comments on Monday and disappeared. I dunno who told him to go out there on Tuesday and do that nonsense, whether it was someone else or just him making that decision, but holy hell.....what a terrible decision.

Well thought out Swish. For the most part I think I agree with you that he can turn it around. I have more hope now that Bannon is out.

He's got a lot of work to do. I think this is as a direct result of having a non-political Chief of Staff in John Kelly. That was probably the best hire of the Trump admin thus far. Of course along with Mattis and McMasters that is.

Look, I think I've made it clear, I don't like Trump, but unlike some who wanted Obama to fail, I don't wish for him to fail.. For him to fail means America fails.

No sir,, That's not the way the put it. If they had, I'd take no issue with it since I understand that very well.

They wanted the Obama presidency to fail, they wanted him to fail, they wanted him impeached within 5 minutes of taking the oath and there was nothing like the Russia scandal thingy or him not releasing his tax returns and the multiple lies told by Trump to give rise to that thinking.

In March of 2009, some on these very boards were angry with Obama for the GM and Mopar bailouts... Saying they were failing because of Obama policy. He hasn't put one policy in place that had a thing to do with the Auto Industry.

I made a point of letting them know that this started under the Bush Admin and you wanna know what I was told? So what, it's Obama's fault now.

Can you imagine that. The man was in office for less than 60 days at that point, and everything wrong with our economy and with the war in the middle east was now his fault.

If they'd have said, we'll it's his problem now, That I would have agreed with, but they said it was all HIS FAULT.

Trump has yet to prove that he is willing to take criticism or different opinions from anybody he put in place. They are all great and qualified until they say something Trump disagrees with, then they find themselves on the way out.

I'm not sure what it would take for anybody of color to accept another position with him but he should try. Right now he's just very toxic and anybody who accepts a position really understands it is very close to committing political suicide. Trump will ultimately turn on you and if he doesn't.. then you will forever be associated with him in your future political plans.

I don't know what he can do to turn this ship around but he needs to try something different.. instead he's planning a rally in Arizona where the rumor is that he will pardon Sheriff Joe Arpaio... which of course will drive yet another dagger between Trump and the left because Arpaio was convicted of contempt in a racial profiling case... He is due to be sentenced in October but could be pardoned by Trump prior to that....
