He's playing against grown men now and getting hurt....I trust Jackson AND Williams, if he's lazy he's gone....AND he sure doesn't seem to be making an impact like lots of other guys...I think he's gone.....GO Browns!!!

Fwiw when I went to camp Brantley looked good. Especially in positional 1 on 1. Good enough to make a team.

Notes: A lighter Joe Schobert ready to move into starting role as MLB

by Scott Petrak August 23, 2017

BEREA — Who says bigger is better?
Joe Schobert dropped at least 15 pounds from last season, has impressed coaches and is ready to step in as the starting middle linebacker after Tank Carder was lost for the season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament Monday night in a 10-6 win over the New York Giants.
“I feel a lot better moving around,” Schobert said Wednesday. “Fifteen pounds is a lot less stress on your joints, being able to open up and run better and cover some space.”
Schobert lost the weight to make the move from 3-4 outside linebacker to 4-3 middle linebacker. He’s 6-foot-1, was 235 or 240 pounds at Wisconsin and said he’s lighter than that now. He was listed at 6-1, 245 last season as a rookie.
“Just position change, getting off the ball, not being an outside linebacker and then fitting in the body that I feel more comfortable in, so I just worked out, got to my best shape possible and happened to be losing a little bit of weight and that’s what happened,” said Schobert, a fourth-round pick. “I just ate healthier than I did in college. Did a good job of making sure I knew what I was putting in my body all the time. That definitely helped.”
Schobert is off to a great start through two preseason games. He’s the team leader with eight tackles, seven solos, two sacks and two passes defensed.
“He came in here as an outside linebacker and played about 25 pounds overweight,” coach Hue Jackson said. “He’s gotten the weight off, he’s playing the Mike linebacker position, he’s extremely bright. That’s the quarterback of our defense, so he has a lot of input and say from snap to snap what our defense does, so he kind of controls that, and that’s a perfect fit for him.
“He obviously still has the ability to rush the quarterback from the edges, but he can play inside and he demonstrated that in these two preseason games and throughout training camp and he’s done an outstanding job.”
Carder suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament Monday night, will have surgery and was placed on season-ending injured reserve Wednesday. He has appeared in 77 games since joining the Browns off waivers in 2012.

MIXED REACTION
Tight end Seth DeValve stayed off social media, and his wife took Google off his phone. But he had the right idea of the public reaction to him and 11 teammates taking a knee to pray during the national anthem Monday night.
“Very much mixed feedback,” he said. “There’s been lots of mixed opinions on this subject for hundreds of years, so it’s the same today.”
DeValve was the first white NFL player to not stand for the anthem. He felt the Browns’ protest was different than those by others across the league.
“We wanted to take the time to pray for our country,” he said. “It wasn’t something that was meant to be disrespectful to anything or anybody, it was something that was meant to take time out to pray for the status of our country.”
DeValve said the players haven’t discussed if they’ll continue with the demonstration meant to call attention to racial injustice. The 12 players kneeling in a prayer circle were joined by five teammates standing with a hand on their shoulders.
“We have a tight-knit group in this locker room,” DeValve said. “Guys support each other on and off the field. We care about each other and each other’s lives. I, myself, care about this subject, I care about the guys that wanted to take a stand about this subject and that’s my role first and foremost, to be an ally to them and play a supportive role.”

INJURY REPORT
Running back Isaiah Crowell (groin), tight end David Njoku (ankle), rookie defensive tackle Caleb Brantley (shoulder), offensive lineman Gabe Ikard (concussion) and defensive back Marcus Burley (face laceration) returned to practice.
** Defensive ends Nate Orchard (groin) and Cam Johnson (knee) didn’t practice and worked on the side with trainers.
** Defensive tackle Danny Shelton (knee), left guard Joel Bitonio (knee), tackle Cameron Erving (calf) and safety Ed Reynolds (knee) remained sidelined.
** Safety Ibraheim Campbell (concussion) didn’t practice but was on the field for the morning walkthrough, which is a good sign.
** Offensive lineman Matt McCants (ankle) was placed on season-ending injured reserve, and safety Justin Currie (ankle) was waived with an injury designation. Both were hurt Monday night against the Giants.
McCants joined the Browns as an unrestricted free agent in the offseason. He has appeared in 30 games with three starts.
Currie spent the final four weeks of the 2016 season on the practice squad.

ROSTER MOVE
Defensive back Christian Bryant (5-9, 195) was signed. He played at Glenville and Ohio State.
Bryant was a seventh-round pick of the Rams in 2014 and has played in 12 games, nine with the Rams in 2015 and three with the Cardinals last season.

- Meder at 1st string DT with Coley
- Gonzalez behind Parkey
- Peppers seems locked in to starting D and Returners

Happy Birthday.

I think he means that Meder is playing the NT in Shelton's absences.

the sad thing is, we seemed to be better without Shelton. Maybe it's just coincidence, but we'll see again tomorrow.

The Giants OL may have had something to do with that.

Grimm...I don't think Shelton played against the Giants, due to Injury.

Bitonio, Shelton probably out till our opener vs. Steelers.

Last season Shelton stayed here in berea and was a gym rat getting in the best possible shape of his life ???

This off season he went back to Samoa??? far from the States and I'm sure didn't work as hard as last off season. Also eating that home cooking I'm sure didn't help...Shame he got injured and couldn't melt some of that crap off of him.

Josh Gordon - WR - Browns

According to Bleacher Report's Jason Cole, suspended Browns WR Josh Gordon went to rehab two months ago.

Gordon's last reinstatement bid was denied but he's hoping his stint in rehab will win over Roger Goodell. Per Cole, Gordon is hoping to be reinstated by late September. Fantasy owners obviously can't count on that, but it does make Gordon an interesting stash at the end of drafts. The once-dominant 26-year-old hasn't played an NFL down since 2014.

agreed.

Sadly, I don't think it is hitting home for him, yet.
He left the team for rehab last year and failed to get reinstated - I'm betting that Goodell has eyes on him. This feels like one of those guys that goes to rehab just to get the Judge off his back, and not a guy that is going because he has finally surrendered.

Best wishes to you, Josh - only you can make it better.

Surrender to Win.

First and foremost the most important thing for Josh is to get his life in order and I hope he does. I wish him the best. I don't think denying and delaying him his reinstatement is helping though. Maybe now more than ever he needs to be with his teammates and playing. It didn't help before but if he is on the road too recovery it may be just what he needs at this time. JMO

i disagree. he needs to get his life in order, but he has to earn the right to be with his teammates.

It's a shame that he cannot control his life. At all. He has so much physical talent, but he is mentally weak.

The annual August tease of Josh Gordon is underway ... although, we could use him wink

I agree, we could use the 2013 version of Gordon. The 2014 version? not so much.

DeShone Kizer - QB - Browns

According to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, it's a "done deal" that Browns second-round QB DeShone Kizer will start Week 1 against the Steelers.

Coach Hue Jackson stopped short of officially anointing Kizer in his post-game remarks, but it's pretty evident which way he's leaning. "I feel comfortable with him," said Jackson of Kizer. "He has the right feel for me and for what I'm looking for." Kizer wasn't great in Saturday's win over Tampa Bay, completing just 6-of-18 passes for 93 yards and an interception. But he's been Cleveland's best quarterback throughout the summer and deserves to lead the rebuilding Browns in 2017.

Cabot also hinted that Jackson could make a surprise move by promoting Kevin Hogan to No. 2 on Cleveland's QB depth chart.

I watched Hue's presser ... I thought his comments about Hogan indicated that he'd made the roster, but not necessarily as the backup. I think his comments spelled the end of Brock more than the demotion of Cody.

There is a reason Osweiler didn't play.

Sept 2 should be interesting. Not sure if we will keep all 4 QB's until we make a move with Brock. or Will Kessler or Hogan get the axe.

I wouldn't be shocked if we traded Osweiler this week and then still cut Kessler after week four of the preseason.

There's this other QB available, Colin....forget it. tongue

But seriously, I could see them running with Kizer, Hogan and then finding a 3rd somewhere else. I still think Brock is worth holding onto unless the pick in return is good. I wouldn't cut him.

I'd like to see us try to package a draft pick, some DL depth (Brantley? Orchard? Both?), and Osweiler to Miami for WR Jarvis Landry and QB Matt Moore. We'd have to agree to pick up a large part of BO's contract too.

That doesn't really make any sense at all for Miami. Matt Moore has been there backup forever. Trading him when your QB situation is in flux doesn't seem like a good idea.

I don't think Osweiler is going to be around under any scenario and Kessler isn't worth keeping if he really is as bad as he's been playing.

(I don't think we will actually cut Kessler.)

If it were decided and leaked to the media that Hogan comment, then that would explain a comment the commentator made during the live TV broadcast of the 3rd preseason game.

When discussing Kiser, the commentator, just off the cuff said, " And don't forget either Kessler or Osweiler is going to step up and become Cleveland's 3rd quarterback". or somethimg similar.

Definetly mentioning that they'd be the 3rd QB, and that it was only one of them, and It sure made me pause that they didn't say anything about the #2 Qb, to which my mind went: (Well of course, because one of them will be the #2 quarterback also.

Durango looks like he's on the chopping block.
Surprised Hall is behind Boyce
Orchard is 5th DE
Holmes seems to have made it
Pryor moves into a backup safety spot

This might be a first. Not that I am saying it is true, but because I liked Hogan (later) in last years Draft over Kessler.

He has his limitations, but I think that he sees the whole field and is pretty resilient to boot.

I think it would be absolutely foolish to get rid of Brock.

He's the perfect backup to Kiser, not to mention he's experienced.

If this FO rolls with Kiser, Kessler, and Hogan I'm going to seriously question their judgment.

LOL - The Rish will be upset with this news as well. KS just doesn't prioritize winning...
