Btw has he really played as bad in this pre-season as some are suggesting?

Yes. He's been that bad.

BUT... he always looks bad in pre-season. Always.
Even a couple years ago before the injuries folks mentioned how his first 2-3 reg season games always looked sloppy and/or rusty.

I think he's lost a step to be sure, but he's still got a place in this lineup, if for no reason other than depth.

gut feeling:

- We don't trade Haden. Nobody will give us enough value. He'll be here.
- We don't trade Erving. Nobody would want him. He'll be released.
- We don't trade Brock. Nobody would give us anything. He'll be released.

I think Haden bounces back this year in a big way.

He has been hurt the last two years, sometimes this just happens. This D reminds me a lot of that 7th ranked D we had in 2014....I think Haden gets his Pro Bowl form back....I think Haden makes the Pro Bowl this year...he is set for a big year this year, i think he delivers.

I'm having trouble ever remembering you 100% backing a player on the Browns.

So I'm asking is there any player you vouch for on our roster?

Pretty shocking. I don't think it was about the money. I think he wasn't going to start.

Noone would trade for him. I think we could've kept him for one year and then cut him when the expenses would've been lower. He was struggling from what I saw during preseason and some of the #1 WRs like Mike Evans and etc were NOT playing, but ouch. Couldn't even find a trade partner.

My Joe Haden jersey is even more useless than the useless'ness it was before being cut.

A source confirms the #Browns have released Joe Haden. I'm told Haden knew it was coming. Family says he's strong. Team has made official.

https://twitter.com/JosinaAnderson/status/902865539114119168

On 92.3 The Fan this morning, Ken Carmen said he was in Berea yesterday and saw the FO, Haden, and Drew Rosenhaus walk into a closed door meeting. So, perhaps that's when the news came down. If so, this seems to corroborate the above tweet that he was notified in a professional way. Far too often players find out about this stuff on the ESPN bottom line or on twitter.

And finally, can we stop with the "saving money moves" when it comes to personnel choices. This team is eating $11MM (maybe more like $15MM) to open up a spot on the roster, like it or not. It is clearly NOT about saving money.

I haven't read a single bit of praise for Haden in years on this board, other than he was great for us once and he's a team guy. It kills me to hear this move, but go back and read all the gameday threads, everyone thought his best and even mediocre days were behind him.

Still feels wrong, but I understand.

The owner is eating 11M by cutting him. I don't think this is about money savings.

Yeah i can't agree with this move at all and it just shows me that we still don't have a FO that knows what its doing yet. You basically cut a 28 year old healthy DB and cost yourself 10 million while doing it, Given the depth at that position, and it being a weakness the last couple years, it hurts nothing to keep him and wait on a trade. Only thing i can think of is Haden asked to be release if he was going to lose his job

It's nothing to do with cheap. It would have been cheaper to keep him till next year if he wanted to save money. It baffles me that people think Haslem is cheap, what exactly has he done to show this? He knows he's sitting on a gold mine if this team starts winning.

Could have kept him one more year on the roster and cut him for a lot cheaper, crfs posted the numbers a few pages back I believe. It's not a money move, I think it's just a Joe Haden sucking move.

This idea was brought up this morning on the radio before the cut was made public but there really isn't anything to support it yet.

Yeah if this was a FO only move, then it makes even less sense

He is being purged because other, younger players are better than him. We can't hang on to older, failing players when building a young, hungry team with an eye to next year.

We'd be a better team if Joe was here AND was a better player...but he's not...not anymore.

Father time catches some players earlier than others.

If he ends up picking off Kizer in week 1, I'll be extremely agitated.

I'm thinking Haden asked for a release once the trade talks happened so he could pick who he wanted to go to. Browns likely agreed bc Haden has been such a stand up guy for the Cleveland community for the past 7 years. It's the least they could do.

apparently we asked him to restructure his contract, he said no, so we sent him packing
