MY GOD THEY GAVE UP A 5TH ROUNDER

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

I honestly believe this was a case where the Browns couldn't make their mind up and just ruined a kid. Never saw any team ever move a kid from Guard to tackle to center to guard all before their first freaking game. If they had stuck him at one and focused on it right out of the gate, this kid would still be a brown. You just cant do that.

Johnson though still raw, out played Erving for the position, but I wish him luck in KC.

AND YES! We are locked and loaded.

Not by using one of the first five picks, right?

...Johnson has looked awful.

But being younger is a positive in a developmental guy. Also think there is some merit to Erving needing a fresh start.

I kept thinking he was finally going to put it together, but it just never happened for one reason or another.

Good luck to Cam in KC.

They got a 5th for Erving, but nobody offered anything for Joe?

Shows how much I know... I can't get my head around that one.

I'm so torn on Erving. His failures are well-documented on here. I feel a little bad because of how he was jerked around across the LOS attempting to find him a position. He never had a position because he was constantly learning/unlearning something new. Ugh...
That begs the question of whether he would be good or decent if he was put at guard or tackle (right tackle seems to be the best bet). I dunno. I think he'd still be a project, and we don't have room for 1st round projects with the personnel we now have on the line.

Good luck, Cam. You're going to need it to recover (your career) from your time here.

Erving has a cheap contract, Haden doesn't. A team could just date Erving, but they had to marry Haden.

I am shocked we were able to get anything of value for him. He was one of the worst players I've ever seen.

"It's surprising the Browns netted anything for Erving, who barely made an impact since being drafted in the first-round of the 2015 NFL Draft. The former Florida State star struggled mightily over 17 starts, operating as a flag-generating barn door who never found a natural home along Cleveland's line."

This trade shows that the Browns really did not due their homework when they drafted Erving. But Mourg might be right as to say Erving might not have gotten the proper coaching here. Moving him around was not a help. Either he plays center or guard. Playing tackle was totally foreign and it would take time to have him excel. So if KC makes it work with him, then you have to call out the coaches.

This should go on Ray Farmer's tombstone.

I agree, but when we drafted him we still had Alex Mack. He wasn't going to play center that season so they moved him around. I think that messed him up.

Erving played tackle in college before switching to center.

The Browns weren't the only NFL team that had a first rd grade on Erving. We had to get an insurance policy for losing Mac. Too bad we just didn't take 3 OLinemen that year with the our first three picks. But hindsight is 20 20 ... Moving on.

I said it before the draft...do not take Erving as I didn't like his tape...and you know who shined in on tape...his guards playing beside him (Tre Jackson and Josua Mathias) Cam lacked any strength and had no sense of lower gravity...his hands and counter were alarming rate...I thought he was a 5th round talent whom may be a 4th round pick due to playing both LT and C...

Odd as many people that year mocked him at his highest going to KC later in Round 1...well now he's in KC...

Another guy I said to steer away from was Roderick Johnson...he was mocked often as a 2-3 round guy...but like Erving is soft and tossed around on the ground too much...however much better value as he went to us in Round 5...and that's where I felt he belonged...hopefully he will stay at tackle and be a solid swing tackle for us for many years...I hope

Dude....

Each and every one of those are B-R-U-T-A-L.

It just feels like we're kicking him while he's down/beating a dead horse, but I do have one question. Is this one of those instances where we'd be able to do the same thing (get a fail list of video links) for just about every lineman in the league?

While I agree in theory - who are you going to get and what do you pay for him?? Got to have a willing dance partner if you are going to make a trade.

FO seems to continue to nail the trading of players (this, Collins etc Did they trade for Taylor too?) and the acquisition of draft collateral. TO me they seem to be hitting on the draft picks too. But then you have the issues like how Schwartz was handled, whether they made the right call on Pryor/Britt and now Haden.

The more things change the more they stay the same.

It is sad. Erving a 1st for a 5th. Gilbert, a 1st for a 6th or 7th and Mingo a 1st for a 5th or 6th. I forgot Wimbley another 1st for a 4th. That's a little better. Wait, what about BQ did we get a 4th for him? There may be more but I don't want to bother to think about it. It makes me sick especially the outright releases like Johnny football and Joe H. Pathetic.
