It seems that any player who is put on IR, who can return at mid-season, has to 1st be on the roster @53.
Rod Johnson is evidently (reportedly) going to be one of these players, so who knows what the OL will look like when it all washes out. A non-vested player has to be waived/injured before he can go to the IR (before the 53 is "set"). As waived, he can be claimed by any other team. Once he "makes" the 53, I believe we can IR him without being required to waive/injured him first. Thats correct.

The Browns on Saturday made a handful of roster moves to get their roster down from 65 players to 53. The roster will remain this size throughout the regular season with 46 eligible to play on game days. The following moves were made Saturday. -- Cleveland acquired WR Sammie Coates and a 2019 seventh-round pick in a trade with the Steelers for a 2018 sixth-round pick. -- The Browns terminated the contracts of OL John Greco and QB Brock Osweiler -- There were 11 players waived: RB Terrence Magee, LB Deon King, WR Jordan Payton, WR Jordan Leslie, WR Rannell Hall, TE J.P. Holtz, OL Anthony Fabiano, DL Xavier Cooper, LB Kenneth Olugbode, DB Najee Murray, K Cody Parkey Nine of the Browns’ 10-man 2017 draft class made the 53, including RB Matthew Dayes, who was the second to last pick in the entire draft. The lone member that didn’t, DB Howard Wilson, was placed on reserve/physically unable to perform (PUP) on Friday. Twenty-eight of Cleveland’s 53 were acquired through the draft, including 20 in the past two classes. Twenty-one of the 53 were new additions to the roster at some point in 2017. Forty-two of the 53 have been added since 2016. “We have some core guys that we expect, who are not only here now but will be here for a long time, and then adding a lot of fresh young talent to the roster in guys that are competitive and embrace the way we want to build who obviously fit our scheme,” Browns executive vice president of football operations Sashi Brown said. “Year over year we’re going to have some opportunities to put some talent on this roster both in free agency and the draft. We obviously had a trade today and we’ll be looking at every opportunity to improve the roster moving forward, but we do like we’re young and the talent is not only better, but also ascending.” The Browns 53-man roster breaks down as follows: Offense (25) Quarterbacks (3): DeShone Kizer, Cody Kessler, Kevin Hogan; running backs (3): Isaiah Crowell, Duke Johnson Jr., Matthew Dayes; fullback (1): Danny Vitale; wide receivers (5): Kenny Britt, Corey Coleman, Sammie Coates, Ricardo Louis, Rashard Higgins; tight ends (3): Randall Telfer, Seth DeValve, David Njoku; offensive linemen (10): Joe Thomas, Joel Bitonio, JC Tretter, Kevin Zeitler, Shon Coleman, Rod Johnson, Marcus Martin, Spencer Drango, Austin Reiter, Zach Sterup Defense (25) Defensive linemen (10): Myles Garrett, Danny Shelton, Trevon Coley, Emmanuel Ogbah, Caleb Brantley, Tyrone Holmes, Jamie Meder, Carl Nassib, Larry Ogunjobi, Nate Orchard; linebackers (5): Jamie Collins Sr., Christian Kirksey, Joe Schobert, Dominique Alexander, James Burgess; defensive backs (10): Jamar Taylor, Briean Boddy-Calhoun, Jason McCourty, Marcus Burley, Darius Hillary, Jabrill Peppers, Derrick Kindred, Ibraheim Campbell, Calvin Pryor III, Kai Nacua Specialists (3) Kicker (1): Zane Gonzalez; punter (1): Britton Colquitt; long snapper (1): Charley Hughlett http://www.clevelandbrowns.com/news/arti...12-f3fdbaf173c0

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

Rod will be to IR, so that'll open a slot

we also kept a LOT of DB/DL Gregg Williams has shown a propensity to utilize that LB/S position so the DB number kind of makes sense. We might still try to swing a trade with someone on the DL. Nothing's final yet, and those last few guys probably shouldn't get too comfortable.

Some posters wanted to give bums like Higgins 5 years to develop.Darn.those days are done. Developmental windows are smaller than ever before

OK....I know you were just saying....no sweat. I do agree, I like that the FO can move on. For over a decade I have been saying the only thing wrong with a bad pick is to stick with a bad pick. Just move on. I don't have a problem with that. Even the top picks like Garret probably only give a FO about a 75% chance of panning out, if that. Even less like with a guy like Warren, who was a good, solid player, but never lived up to his draft status. Had he been a 3rd rounder, everybody would have been thrilled.

Leslie surprised me on the field AND the release. Looked like a keeper to me over some of the others we have.

funny to see Parkey sign in Miami even though he blew the game for us down there

I don't believe Parkey even practiced with the team in Cleveland before that game (there was an article written above his crazy circumstances at the time).

I am not sticking up for him over Gonzalez,. but it is ignorant to think he blew the game. That is simpleton talk

Please tell me who is the 4th qb ? Woodrum has never played in a regular-season game. He was undrafted out of Liberty in 2016. He had a strong preseason for the Ravens, going 25-for-36 (69.4 percent) for 321 yards with two touchdowns, no interceptions and a 115.6 rating. He added two rushing touchdowns. He set Liberty career records with 10,266 passing yards and 833 completions, and his 61 passing touchdowns ranked second. He spent most of the offseason with the Bills before joining the Ravens. He was with the Colts last offseason and spent time on Chicago’s practice squad. https://www.brownszone.com/2017/09/03/browns-claim-5-off-waivers-including-qb-josh-woodrum/

I agree with you wholehearted Don't hold onto a bad draft pick just because he was taken in the early rds I think any other regime would have held on to Erving Higgins for 3 more decades All of a sudden their might be hope for the wr core Williams did alot of good things as a Seahawk.Higgins did zero as a Brown

He spent most of the offseason with the Bills before joining the Ravens.
Does this mean David Lee coached him and knows him? If so, possibly why we picked him up.

We usually go through about 5 QB's a season. At least this year we have the 1st 4 AND they will all have experience in our system.

Still wondering if this QB we signed was with David Lee over in Buffalo, thus why we may have picked him up... According to his Wikipedia page, Josh Woodrum has been with five teams since going undrafted last year. Giants, then Colts, then Bears, then Ravens, and now the Browns. He was with the Bills from January 2, 2017 till May 24th, 2017. We hired David Lee on February 8th, 2017. I don't think Lee would know much if anything about Woodrum.

4 QB"s .. Did I miss something ? No. Some say it doesn't make any sense. If we go the whole season with 4 it would be excessive, but we aren't even to game 1. I am sure we feel we can trade one of them. Be it soon or a few weeks in to the season if/when people get hurt. The roster is still very fluid at this point. Teams are picking up players off the waiver wire, That means a new wave of cuts. We may dump a QB today as new names start hitting the wire....and these are players their team kept..at least for a day or two.

yeah, i'd be shocked if we didn't cut/trade Kessler in the next few days. I highly doubt we're playing Pittsburgh with 4 QBs on the roster
