http://www.clevelandbrowns.com/news/arti...65-c44fe684fef3We got Coates and a 2019 7th round pick for a 2018 6th round pick. Pretty good deal. (The 6th round pick we are sending them is the one we got for Justin Gilbert.)

hmm, he must have been on their cut list. He does have some upside
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

Coates is Big, Fast but has questionable hands, I hope he has worked on catching the ball ... JMHO

From the article;
The 2018 sixth-round pick going to Pittsburgh was originally acquired from the Steelers in exchange for DB Justin Gilbert on Sept. 3, 2016.
So essentially we traded Gilbert for Coates. Nice, at least Coates is still in the league.
This gives us additional depth and will cost Hall/Leslie/Payton/Higgins their spot.
Statistics are like a bikini; what they show is interesting, but what they hide is vital. Drive for show (1st round), Putt for dough (rest of draft).

So basically we traded Justin Gilbert for Coates and a 7th? Great deal!

Doesn't Coats have a history of drops? definitely. that's his weakness

Doesn't Coats have a history of drops? I don't see this as an upgrade of guys we already have...more of a push.

Did we just swap playbooks?
Haden on Coates would be a fair match-up.

Such a strange thing to trade when he would have been ours anyways after being cut. is there an advantage to trading?

If he has a history of drops he's come to the right place. We have a long and storied history or WR that drop the ball. Welcome aboard Sammie!!!

Maybe we want to stay in the front of the line for the waiver wire? I mean, I'm not sure how that works, but is that how it works? You go to the back of the line after you acquire from waiver wire?

From the few college games I saw, he looked like a big, fast NFL receiver. I wanted us to draft him and was upset that that the steelers took him. Welcome aboard!

Most likely we traded for Coates because we were worried that the Steelers would trade him elsewhere.

The Browns keep their first claim status until the end of September when it flips to reflect this seasons win/loss record.

From Rotoworld: "Coates struggled throughout his time in Pittsburgh as a 2015 third-rounder, whether it was rookie-year mistakes or the injury bug. Injuries have particularly held him back recently. Coates broke his fingers in 2016 then needed groin and knee surgeries after the season. He's extremely gifted physically at 6'1/212 with long arms and good speed but has yet to put it all together. Coates has two years left on his rookie deal and is another downfield threat for DeShone Kizer." Link

Maybe afraid someone else will trade a 7th for him or something......

The waiver period runs from the first business day after the Super Bowl through the end of the NFL’s regular season. Except in rare incidents, the waiver period lasts 24 hours and all waivers are categorized as “no recall” and “no withdrawal,” which means once a club waives a player, it cannot take the player back or change the player’s status.
Once a club waives a player, the 31 other clubs either file a claim to obtain him or they waive their chance to do so (thus the origin of the term “waiver”). Clubs are assigned players on a priority basis. From the first business day after the Super Bowl until the day after the third regular season week, assignments are based on a claiming order that is the same as the order in which clubs selected in that year’s Draft. From the beginning of the fourth regular season weekend through the Super Bowl, assignments are based on the inverse order of their win-loss record. For example, a team with fewer wins will be awarded a player off waivers ahead of a team with a better record. If a player passes through waivers unclaimed, he becomes a free agent.
Once the waiver period starts each year through the trading deadline, a vested veteran — a player who has acquired four years of pension credit — is not subject to the waiver system if the club decides to release him. That means if a team decides to release a vested veteran, the league considers his contract to be terminated immediately and he is free to negotiate and sign with any other club. From the trading deadline through the end of the regular season, vested veterans are subject to the waiver process. Link

Odd as I've been mentioning the past couple weeks either Coates or Heyward Bey will be gone...guess they decided on keeping Heyward Bey...and he's the one I preferred.
Well least we are trying to improve the WR core...all I know is Coats is raw but alot of potential if he gets it to click

So is this our new Greg little?
Fast, strong, can get open but can't do the one thing a WR is suppose to do, catch?

Might also be a potential kick/punt returner since we cut Alford.
Pretty meh on the move.
Could pay off, but not sure the odds I'd put on it.

Depth, vertical speed cheap. You get what you pay for.
Also, may get some playbook info but they already have/create a "playbook" from their advance scouts and qa.
