On the other hand, we picked up one of the 2 top preseason WR according to PFF. I know it's faint praise, but we may be better off with Williams than Leslie/Hall/Bailey/Payton. https://www.profootballfocus.com/news/pr...paign=nflnl2016

FL , Have no control over any NFL Team Roster ; I do know what my eyes saw .. We released Wr's that played better in 4 preseason games than Higgins .. I know that He saw alot of reps with the first team and was with the second unit (throughout camp), but he was only targeted a total of like 5 times iirc, 3 of which where receptions, one incomplete (would have been a highlight reception) and one int, by Kizer in the pre-season games. I wont lament over his being cut (after all he is on the PS), but of the playes and snaps he played, he had to take the back seat and that's because he is not a speed guy, he needs to be good as a possession receiver, because that is what he is. Hey, I can't wait to see the new arrivals @ WR.

The game will be played and we will see what we have at Wide out . You could cut all three late round picks ( Louis , Payton , ans Higgins ) and we wouldn't loose a thing !

Channing Stribling was added to the PS. I think he officially makes it 10.

Glad to see Stribling make it. I thought we didn't invest nearly enough in CBs this year, and Stribling has been best available since the draft ended. He's probably too slow, but he has promise. Glad to see that we kept him in the system.

I thought they had changed the rules which allowed players with more playing experience to fill some of the spots on the practice squad. https://www.sbnation.com/2016/9/3/127739...gibility-primerEither way, I think it's crazy that Holmes isn't on someones' roster.

Sounds like he'll be back on our roster by week 5 after some injury to a DE.

You could be right, What I found said that a player with 1 accrued season (on roster for at least 6 games) was eligible for the practice squad but said player had to have been active for less than 9 games. But what you posted says they can have 2 years accrued.

Thanks! It seemed to be the case to me, just dawned on me that I don't know much about how the PS works and is used throughout the real season much at all.

I liked what i saw of Leslie in last preemie game. Impressed me. I watched the game again the other day. There was a 3 play series which probably explains the team's view of him. One the first play he made that amazing 1-handed catch. The next play he was on the sidelines while the announcers gushed over the catch. While the camera was on him he was sent back in for the 3rd play where he was clearly the primary target. He was open underneath, nobody within 5 yards, and he dropped the easy throw right in his hands. Next.

So, you cut a guy because he drops a pass? LOL......we wouldn't have a WR on the team.

On THIS team... yes, you're right.
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

The 1-handed catch was exciting. The drop indicates he may not be an improvement on Louis, Higgins, or Payton who also drop too many passes. I'm not saying that is why he was cut, I'm saying it didn't differentiate him from the pack.

That is the rub ; the reports out of training camp were that he NEVER dropped a pass , caught everything.. Now Coates , Williams and Davis may explode on the scene ( one can pope ) .. For some of us it's all about Louis and Higgins ?

My point about the 3 play series was that he impressed the coach with the first catch, so the coach specifically gave him another chance to impress, and he dropped the easy pass. I'm saying that specific drop in that specific situation may have hurt him more than usual because he was given a chance to shine and didn't.

The counterpoint is the drafted guys don't have to do anything to impress. The undrafted guys seem to have insurmountable odds to overtake the drafted guys even if the drafted guys suck. At least that's what it appears from the outside looking in. We don't know what goes on in every practice so it's really hard to tell.

Two drafted receivers were cut (Payton and Higgins). Leslie is still not on an NFL roster.

Right. I would have preferred to see Leslie in Higgins spot.
At least based on reports coming out of training camp.

Right. I would have preferred to see Leslie in Higgins spot.
At least based on reports coming out of training camp. And that's based on what reporters saw, in the practices that were open to them. We had a receiver here last year, who had everyone in a tizzy. He was the next Jerry Rice. It was the biggest mistake in NFL history when we didn't keep him on the roster or on the practice squad. I am trying to remember the kid's name, because IIRC, he is still looking for a job. Sometimes the undrafted guys make it. Boddy-Calhoun was undrafted. Coley and Meder were UDFA. Sometimes you find UDFA who really light it up, and make it impossible for the team to cut them. Other times they can't. Some times a guy looks great against base defenses, but struggles against others. The coaches track all of their reps, to see how they fit on the team. I liked Leslie and Hall both. However, as far as I now, both are sitting at home right now. There were almost 1200 players cut in the final cut. There were, maybe, 2-3 spots available on most teams, after they made their cuts. Then there were 320 practice squad spots, across the NFL. Even in the developmental aspect of the practice squad, teams want guys with some characteristic that jumps out at you. They also look at where they have weaknesses in their roster. They also might look at a guy who has some experience, who can step right in, if necessary. Higgins fills that aspect. Anyway, just my $0.02 worth.
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

Vince Mayle? I remember a receiver named CJ Jones that everyone threw a tizzy over when he was cut.

Yeah, Snead sucks. I was just rattling off receivers that people liked in the preseason and got cut, trying to help Ytown remember the name. Better slow down on the drinking, your eyes are rolling.
