That's because every game matters when trying to get into the playoffs.
This game also finally exposed the truth: we need to move on from Barrett and find a QB with an arm, and more importantly one that TRUST his arm.
We don't win a title if cardale jones doesn't play. Barrett isn't he answer, and most likely he will continue to regress once it gets cold just like last year.
Yea, we might criticize the team, but at least we don't make excuses as to why we loss like other teams fans do.
“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”
- Theodore Roosevelt

i just find it hard to believe that Barrett gives us the best chance to win ... he literally can't throw for any accuracy/consistency. It's dreadful to watch.
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."

In my opinion what the Bucks need to do (and I said it last year) is just line up and play football. Get rid of this read option crap, let the RBs run the ball and let Barrett just throw it. Barrett is a rhythm QB and he's at his best when he can just stand there and throw it.

His only strength is his ability to read/run.

This offense is not a number two ranked unit. The defense is another story. I've been very disappointed the last couple of years with the offense and was hoping Urban would work some magic in the offseason. Not the case. I've never been impressed with Barrett and that feeling continues, unfortunately.
Hopefully, the defense can keep us in the hunt, but I'm doubtful that this offense will allow us to get to where we expect this team to be. Looks like Jules called it. Barrett sucks. I laughed when I heard he was considered for the Heisman. I can't believe we don't have a better QB at Ohio State than him.

Pretty bad performance last night by the Bucks.
Lot of people complaining about the offense, and I don't disagree with most of it, but man the defense was not good. I get that they have faced two quality throwing offenses in two weeks, but they rank dead last in pass defense, which includes low level teams who were badly outmatched in their first and second weeks in cream puff games.... That's not good. That has to get cleaned up.
And yeah, the offense is bad right now. We have no real down the field threat, and that exposes JT for who he is. A decent QB who isn't horrible at anything, but also isn't really great at anything. He can get the ball down the field a little, but won't be confused for having a rocket arm. He can run a bit, but he's no Braxton Miller. He's not super accurate in the short and intermediate game. I don't understand why the coaches don't see this and go run heavy with the backs? We have good running backs all over the depth chart.
I'm not gonna flip out on this game, because a few years ago there were actual people questioning Urban Meyer and if he was up for the gig after losing to Virginia Tech in a very similar game where the offense looked putrid.
The only difference is I don't know if we'll see full development this year like we did with Devin Smith, Michael Thomas, and Evan Spencer in 2014. Having those guys turn into what they did made JT look really good over the course of the whole year, and it played an unbelievably big role into why Cardale Jones was able to step in and win 3 straight playoff games.

Oklahoma seemed light years ahead of us on both ends. ... Mayfield is SO much better than Barrett IMO

Why not play the freshman Tate Martell?

Not a good time to be a football fan from Northern Ohio. Unless you're not upset with what the Browns are doing and are pleasantly surprised with how they played week 1, your college team is 2-0 and you enjoy the hell out of a loss by "AN" Ohio State University.

Guy I work with is an old OSU fan, last thing he said to me on Friday before leaving was that he was excited for the game because he was sick of all the attention on Mayfield.... turns out, Mayfield was the primary difference..
JT Barrett is a fine QB for 90% of OSU games because they are just that much more talented than their opponent.... they are playing down hill, they are playing with a lead, defenses are on their heels.. but when adversity strikes and he needs to step up and take charge and make plays (especially with his arm), I don't think he can be counted on to do that.

I don't agree w/your takes on the game.
Oklahoma beat OSU in almost every way possible, not just because of Mayfield.
Secondly, JT has regressed as a qb. In fact, I can't remember a guy regressing as much as he has from just two years ago and especially from the year we won the National Championship.
He is so slow w/his decision making. He is late on almost every throw. His accuracy is worse. He isn't even running as well.
Not sure what happened, but something happened. He is not the same qb he used to be and that is not a compliment.

I don't know what happened to him. But, it's clear he is not playing the same way as he used to. It's almost mind-boggling.

I'm not saying this is what happened to JT - but it might have - I was thinking back to the year the Buckeyes played Florida in the NC game, and Troy Smith looked fat and slow, reportedly because he, as the Heisman winner, spent the 6 weeks between the UM game and the National Championship game on the banquet circuit. Maybe JT is getting too many free dinners and uh, beverages in C-bus? These guys are demi-gods on High St and elsewhere - the perks must be substantial.

Ohio State only dropped to #8 That's shocking, actually... Not really. Oklahoma is a very good team, and the Bucks, like a few other programs tend to catch some breaks in the poll ranking. How much further down do you think thay should have dropped? I think they landed about where they should have. I have never thought that a good team losing to another good team early on should ruin their chances. Sure, had they lost to Western Michigan, drop them to 23 and be done with them. At #8, they still have a chance to be a top 4 team headed in to the playoffs, but no doubt some others are going to have to take their 1 loss for that to happen and they can't lose any more.

JT's never looked the same after he got hurt his freshman season. A mind boggling question, as he is the only 3 year captain in OSU history and the leader on the team. He is putting in a ton of effort and work, but where is it going? He hasn't been able to throw a ball 15 yards down the field accurately. Most of his passes sail on him. The defense can just keep the safeties 20 yards back from the los and keep everything in front of them. They just know we're coming at them horizontally and not vertically. It blows my mind why Urban is still trying to win this way. I'm not sure any of these QBs on the roster are the answer. Maybe Tate is, but he's pretty young.

Every single teammate he has likes him. I just don't get why he doesn't throw it deep. He has to understand that it his flaw. Unless he's trying to check it down further. Maybe he doesn't throw it deep because it's hard to in practice? Going up against 1st round CBs and safeties in every practice could make him not want to throw it deep? I'm just spitballing. I think he just needs to throw his fair share of 50/50 balls deep. Let the WRs do their job. These kids aren't here to make easy catches.

I don't know the answers either CHS. It's just kind of amazing at how far his game has regressed. It sucks because he was a player I have been really rooting for.

The fashion we lost (49-21), I don't know - I figured the drop would've been 10th or below in rank. Wasn't like we lost by a FG.
I'm not saying I'm a college guru, everyone tells me I'm exaggerating, but it is hurtful to see OSU lose. It's my Ohio team I enter the event with the notion of winning and we got whipped decently.
Let's handle Army and get back into the swing of things!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm. Ot surprised we only dropped to 8 but personally I would have dropped us out of the top ten... We kept it close until the fourth but then got exposed badly... Our defense was pretty good but our offense was horrid... They took away our running game and they dared Barrett to throw and he was very inaccurate....
And for those that ar calling OU classless for mayfield planting the flag... I don't care about thwt... If you offended by another tam celebrating don't let them smack you around at home....you don't like a guy celebrating after a TD? Dont let him score... I personally hope we get another shot at them... But we got a long way to go to make the playoffs...
