What kind of coverage was Haden in when Kasen Williams caught that sideline throw out of bounds? IIRC, he was beaten pretty bad on that play...now, if he was in zone and making up for the safety being out of position, that's a whole different animal.
I'm curious because I remember the play, but didn't see who was in coverage that well. I did see some reports talking about how Haden was beaten on that play, but couldn't confirm one way or the other.
I guess I am the one that opened this can of worms.
In the postgame thoughts thread, I did preface my post with something about what I saw with my untrained eye. I do not profess to be an expert on coverages.
If Haden was expecting safety help from the top, then he was disappointed multiple times. It wasn't there. But, and again I am not claiming any expertise, even if he was expecting safety help I think he would have wanted to play tighter than he was. If a safety was there on top, and was the same distance from the receiver as Haden was, then I think the receiver would still be open.
Just my observations ...
And to reiterate, I do not think this was the year to let go of Joe, or Greco. I am OK with Erving being gone, though. I do not think it can be that difficult to replace that "level" of skill.
I am thinking leaving his spot empty would be improvement. The rush will still get through, but an empty hole does not get flagged for false starts or holding.
