The Cleveland Browns have signed WR Rashard Higgins to the active roster from the practice squad. To make room on the roster, the team waived DL Tyrone Holmes.
Higgins is 6-1, 198 pounds and in his second NFL season out of Colorado State. A fifth-round pick by the Browns last year, he appeared in 15 games and logged six receptions for 77 yards as a rookie. He will wear No. 81.
Holmes appeared as a reserve in last week’s game. He saw action in 11 games with the Browns in 2016.

i assume we'll do this all year according to the game plan

BEREA: Kenny Britt wanted to drop the subject.

The veteran wide receiver can’t afford to drop anything else.

Not after the way coach Hue Jackson reacted to Britt’s performance Sunday in the Browns’ 21-18 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Britt was wide open when he dropped a pass from rookie quarterback DeShone Kizer with 11:27 left in the fourth quarter on second-and-19 at the Browns 22-yard line. The Browns went three-and-out. After a disappointing preseason, Britt finished the regular-season opener with one catch for 13 yards on three targets.

On Monday, Jackson called the drop “inexcusable” and wouldn’t commit to Britt keeping his starting job for Sunday’s road game against the Baltimore Ravens (1-0). Jackson said Wednesday he would let the practice week unfold before making a decision on Britt’s role.

“I’m not talking about it,” Britt said of the drop before Wednesday’s practice. “You all talking about it. It’s been behind me. That’s nine years in the league. You don’t get there for no reason. You’ve got Hall of Famers who have dropped balls.

“I think it was magnified because of the point of the game. Of course, we needed all the plays, especially when you’re down by a couple points.”

Britt insisted Jackson hadn’t said anything to him about the play.

Told the coach said his starting spot isn’t guaranteed, Britt said, “Things happen.”

Asked if he should be starting, Britt said, “You earn that spot, right? OK then.”

Well, has Britt earned it?

“I earn everything that I got in my life,” he said.

The Browns signed Britt in March to a four-year, $32.5 million contract, which includes $17 million guaranteed, with the hope he’d serve as their No. 2 receiver opposite Corey Coleman.

Britt, 28, conceded he feels extra pressure to capitalize on every play for his young QB.

“I believe that’s everybody on the team,” he said. “We rely on each other. It’s a team game.”

The Browns need Britt to produce for them like he did for his former team. He started all 15 games in which he appeared last season with the Los Angeles Rams and had career highs in catches (68) and receiving yards (1,002) to go along with five touchdowns.

Kizer said he trusts Britt to “score some touchdowns” for the Browns.

“There are times where there is going to be two guys on him and it is going to be a ball that is right at his face and he is going to catch it,” Kizer said. “It will be a big hurray, and everyone is going to forget the one that he dropped against Pittsburgh, honestly.”

There's more to the article, I've only included the part about Britt.

WOW! Nate Ulrich needs to Lay off of Britt!

Let these guys play football.

Tyrone Holmes, He's made the team and been released, and re-joined the team and been released; in about a 20 day span. ( I think it's closer to 14 days.)

I'd like to see him on the team and making plays.

i said it somewhere else, but i bet he will be on/off the roster all year. we'll add DL/DB/WR/OL according to game plan

In one of the threads about the final cut, I said that Holmes would be back on the team by week 4. I still stand by that statement.

Game day and I am looking forward to seeing Coates and Williams again now that they have had a little time with the team. Williams looked like he had good hands and ran good routes - stepping out of bounds not withstanding. I am also looking for redemption from Britt.... If those 3 are good/decent - and Coleman continues to show that he can make plays and get open, I think I will feel much better about the WR position than I did preseason.

It'd be nice if either Williams or Coates can turn into a solid, reliable WR ... at least for a year until the draft

If Britt can play like he did last year and Williams and Coates play decently our WR group suddenly looks pretty good especially with a QB that can make all the throws.

It's interesting, that they would release Holmes, the 5th DE over McGill the 6th DT.

Also with seven WR's, some will be inactive for the game.

Speaking of Coleman, he gets a pass her and I don't know why.

that kid isn't very good, he is a blown First Rd pick.

He may turn into a "Serviceable" #2 or #3 WR, but he is no #1.

He lacks athletic talent of elite WR, lacks speed, lacks size(at 5"11 185 pounds) compare that Josh Gordon an actual #1 WR(6'3 225 pounds)

I don't blame Coleman, Coleman has a part on this team as A #2-3, but he certainly should NOT have been picked in the Top 15 of the 1st round...what a blunder by this FO...Brown and Podesta obviously made a huge mistake with this one...

coleman getting 1 catch isnt good on the playcaller. you need to get a screen or slant to get him some touches. gettin him on some one on ones is what you try to do with a smallish shifty guy.

coleman should go to slot imo

I`m good with Baker... Playoffs is good enough for me.

We threw the ball to Coleman. He had a drop that was right in his hands. He was not getting separation. Kize was horribly inaccurate most of the day.

None of that has a damn thing to do w/play calling.

Sure it does. Simplify the offense. Run shorter routes. Run more crossing routes. Allow the offense to get into a flow instead of 3rd and long.

Hue is an atrocious play caller.

I disagree and think you are talking out of your butt.

When does it become about the play calling? When is it on the coach and not the players? When do we know the difference?

These are all serious questions.

When we get talent that is on par w/the rest of the league.

Hue proved in Cinci that he can call plays. How does that escape you? You just don't "forget" how to call plays.

Our qb is terrible right now. He is late w/his reads on almost every throw. Our WRs aren't getting separation. Our qb is highly inaccurate. Our WRs drop multiple balls each game. Our OL can't run block worth a damn.

We are very inexperienced on offense. Our talent level is poor.

It's not about freaking play calling.

And this is the kind of thing I was getting at all off season w/the unrealistic expectations that some folks were having.

Once reality sets in........people gotta point the fingers at a coach or coaches. And yet, not one person is blaming the FO for the roster they have assembled or the owner for the constant changes that have really put us in this situation.

Instead, it's about play calling and dumb decisions by the coach. LOL...........y'all never learn.

Don't you have to tailor the play calling and game plan to the talent you have?

Why does a coach have to have superior talent to be a good coach?

Uh oh. You questioned him. You may well find your self on the "ignore" list. Or, at a minimum, on the list of people he doesn't respect.

Dang, that list of his is getting really, really long.

Your answer was Hue will be a good OC when he gets talent.

I think the actual answer is somewhere in between. Hue is not blameless. His play calling and game plans are perplexing.

I've seen enough of Britt.

I'm disappointed Coleman can't be more of a go-to guy

In a few more weeks we could possibly debate which was a worse choice by the FO...signing Britt to that contract or offering Pryor that contract.

Pryor so far has been unable to make a difference on a team devoid of receivers.

Browns fear Corey Coleman broke his hand; Jamie Collins suffers concussion in 24-10 loss to Ravens

BALTIMORE -- The Browns fear Coley Coleman suffered another broken hand during Sunday's 24-10 loss to the Ravens, a source told cleveland.com.

The team also announced that linebacker Jamie Collins suffered a concussion.

Coleman left the game with 13:15 left after a collision with cornerback Marlon Humphrey on an incomplete pass.

He appeared to be in pain when he walked off the field.

After the game, he went to the X-ray room, and then he sat looking dejected at his locker. He didn't want to talk after the game.

"He's hurt,'' said one of his teammates.

Coleman also suffered a broken hand last season after the second game and missed the next six games. He was never able to catch up, and finished the season with 33 catches for 413 yards and 3 TDs.

Coleman caught only one of his seven targets for 9 yards against the Ravens.

The poor outing came after a promising game against the Steelers, in which he caught 5 of 6 targets for 53 yards and a TD.

As for Collins, he's now in the concussion protocol and his status for Sunday's game in Indianapolis is unknown.

He'll have to pass a series of tests before he's allowed back on the field.

Collins, a starting outside 'backer, finished third on the Browns with seven tackles, including one for a loss.

I wish I could get upset over Coleman but I just can't. Thought it was a dumb pick at the time and don't see how he helps the team much at all.

It would suck losing Collins for any amount of time.

It took only 2 weeks to get me back into "2016 Browns mode". At least the Indians are going dancing, the Blackhawks are starting soon & the Cavs, as dysfunctional as they may be, will be fun TV.
