ESPN's Jemele Hill: Trump Is A 'White Supremacist' And Unfit For Office
HuffPost Chris D'Angelo,HuffPost 2 hours 9 minutes ago

WASHINGTON — An ESPN host with a history of stirring up controversy lashed out at Donald Trump in a series of Twitter posts on Monday, calling the president a “white supremacist” who is unfit to serve in the White House.

“Donald Trump is a white supremacist who has largely surrounded himself w/ other white supremacists,” tweeted Jemele Hill, who co-hosts ESPN’s “SC6” with Michael Smith.

Hill’s comments about Trump followed a post in which she reacted to an article about rocker Kid Rock attacking the media and “extreme left” for trying to label him a racist. Rock, whose real name is Robert James Ritchie, concluded his lengthy Facebook post with “P.P.P.P.P.S. I LOVE BLACK PEOPLE!!”

“He loves black people so much that he pandered to racists by using a flag that unquestionably stands for dehumanizing black people,” Hill tweeted of Kid Rock, referring to his display of the Confederate flag.

The subsequent conversation eventually shifted to Trump. Hill didn’t mince words about her feelings toward the president or the impact she thinks he’s had on the nation.

“Trump is the most ignorant, offensive president of my lifetime,” she wrote. “His rise is the direct result of white supremacy. Period.”

Hill pointed to last month’s violent white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, as an example of how Trump has empowered America’s white supremacists. The president famously defended both those protesting and attending the white nationalist rally, saying, “You have people who are very fine people on both sides.”

In a statement Tuesday, ESPN said Hill’s comments about Trump “do not represent the position” of the network.

“We have addressed this with Jemele and she recognizes her actions were inappropriate,” the statement said.

The statement makes no mention of disciplinary action.

No mention of discipline. Wonder if a white player said something similar about a black politician?

Jemele Hill ... LOL.

She singlehandedly chased away a generation of viewers from ESPN so much so they had to lay people off.

No one cares about anything she has to say. She's irrelevant.

And I get that Trump is a very divisive figure, but the no discipline thing is an outrageous double standard.

They would be fired and shunned from future employment, obviously. It's happened to people for comments that were less outrageous and closer to reality. Jemele Hill will probably get a promotion when whatever controversy that arises from this dies down.

We can either whine about it or do what millions of people have already done and cut the cord. Find some other form of entertainment or do something useful on Monday nights while you're at it.

Pick up one of the live streaming sources. It's not my area of expertise but OCD made a good post about one option a while back.

By the way, that's not really in response to this specific comment, which is just a small snippet of what that network has become.

Interesting article: https://www.theringer.com/2017/9/13/16299136/jemele-hill-espn-michael-smith-sportscenter-the-six

It doesn't mention her tweets at all. Written before the tweets, published after.

Well she was just reaching out to her base directly through twitter. Who else do we know does this every evening while taking a dump?

I don't even know who Jemele Hill is and Trump is definitely not a White Supremacist... at least not in the traditional meaning. He is however a sympathizer to Russian Oligarchs, ex-Communists Leaders who act like dictators, thug-like toughman dictators in several countries, White Supremacists, the kkk, and Neo Nazis! He has openly proven these things.

Additionally he has alienated and acted all but hostile to many of the USA's oldest allies and closest neighbors! Not to mention that he has scandalous ties to organized crime and russia!

BUT she was definitely out of place calling him a white supremacist...

Whatever.

I think you are skirting the intent of the thread.

What would have happened to a white reporter if he/she had made similar comments about a black politician, such as President Obama?

The thread would be blowing up. So would social media. So would the internet. My guess is that person would have been fired by now.

Is this not an example of a double standard?

I'd say the difference is not the race, but the men. Obama had actual character and moral fortitude. Trump lacks both.

Which is exactly what's happening.
My fb feed, here, two other msg boards, and electronic media. It IS blowing up. Everywhere.

There's one place that I havent seen it: the Internet Cello Society (yes, it's really a thing ;)) It's a quiet place. Where a man can go, collect his thoughts... and breathe (and flirt- some of those babes are scandalous!).

Usually when I see these "Yeah, well if 'such-and so' did this and such'..." I just let'em slide. But you produce better work than that. (Like My Mom used to tell me: "I expect more from you than the other kids" rofl)

C'mon Vers. Are we living on two different internets?

I agree that she should be fired. If you actively keep people on your payroll on a network, you're supporting their ideas via innactions.

No offense, Clem. But, I think the outrage would be much worse. Heck, hardly anyone was even talking about it on here, until just now. LOL

Anyway, I just think it is best if we point out the good and bad for all sides. I actually think that would help heal the divide. Give and take. Compromise. I understand your point, you understand my point. Not drawing lines in the sand. All those cliches work.

Btw------I don't like her show and I don't watch it, however, I don't want her to get fired. I am more in line w/also not firing the next white dumb ass who has a slip of tongue.

No kidding.

That's- interesting.
I tripped over it on Cleveland.com not more than 2 hours ago, while I was looking for something else.

Couldn't avoid it right now if I tried.

She should get fired because she is terrible at her job. I used to watch sports center all of the time. I turned on the new SC6 with her and another man. That show is terrible. It is almost unwatchable.

While her views are typical left wing hate I never agree that people should lose their jobs because of personal views away from work. I know it does not stop ABC/Disney for firing people for different views than their own but I grew up different. Sticks and stones may break bones but words can never hurt me.

I am sure that this post will be met w/harsh criticism, but I'm going to say it anyway. I am not saying it to be mean. I am not saying it because I am a racist, which I'll surely be accused of. I am saying it as a word of warning and as a call for fairness.

I have been reading some articles on this subject. Some points to consider:

--Curt Shilling was fired by ESPN because he said that men should not use the women's bathroom. ESPN said they were an inclusive community, that his conduct was unacceptable, and that he was being terminated.

I'm sorry, but what Shilling said was not as offensive as what Hill tweeted.

--The National Association of Black Journalists issued a statement saying that Hill should not be fired because she was expressing her right to free speech. Okay, but wasn't Shilling doing the same thing? Who defended him?

--There was an article about Shilling was fired because he was previously warned for making political comments and that this was Hill's first offense. Once again, I am sorry, but that is a lie. She was actually suspended in 2008 for comparing rooting for the Boston Celtics to rooting for Adolf Hitler during her work as a columnist for ESPN.-------------Are you freaking kidding me?

Yet, she is being defended by many blacks and liberals.

I am thinking that there is a double standard at work here.

I have always defended and supported minorities, such as African Americans, Native Americans, Hispanics, Jews, etc, etc. I probably always will, but the double standard is a turn off for a guy like me.

Some of you will attack me for my opinions, but those of you who actually want to use your brains to help your personal gains, might want to consider what I'm saying.

You can't become what you hate and not expect to be hated. Consistently calling out whites for their misdeeds while excusing and even applauding the misdeeds of your race is not intelligent.

Instead, it is alienating to those of us who actually have an open mind.

There will always be a segment of whites who will hate you no matter what. There are blacks that will hate the white man no matter what. I am not speaking to either of those groups because both are hopeless.

I am speaking to the intelligent, open-minded individuals that understand that two wrongs do not make a right. I hope you understand that it would not be in your best interests to alienate the very people that support your cause.

Peace. Out.

What do you think of the following news headlines?

- Black men must be stopped: The very future of mankind depends on it

- 5 reasons "black pride" is always racist

- Let's hope the Boston Marathon bomber is a Black American

- Feminism's ugly internal clash: Why its future is not up to black women

- Black fragility is real: 4 questions black people should ask themselves during discussions about race

- Black privilege: An insidious virus that's eating America from within

- Black guys are killing us: Toxic, cowardly masculinity, our unhealable national illness

- Black People say the Darnedest things

- The plague of angry black men: How racism, gun culture & toxic masculinity are poisoning America

- Black supremacy and Trump fever: The toxic combo that's killing people - black people

- Black people are more racist than they realize

- "You can't coddle black brothers and sisters": The fiery racial gospel of Michael Eric Dyson

There are many more where those came from. flamingmad

Wow, some of those are pretty wicked. They sound like some twisted white supremacist material, right?

Now, I must apologize for some trickery. It was necessary to prove a point, not necessarily to you but to others who are not as independent of thinkers are you are. Those are not the actual headlines.

The actual headlines say 'white' and not 'black'. Other than that they are verbatim (feel free to Google them) and they are taken from Salon, HuffingtonPost, and BuzzFeed.

Hmmmm........I was about to go off and defend blacks. You did trick me.

With that said......I am not sure if either side gets my message. I am not knocking all blacks. I am not trying to defend all whites.

I am simply asking that we judge individual actions based on their own merit instead of condoning or defending the act strictly based on what "side" you are on.

I have become increasingly frustrated and discouraged because I just don't think people are understanding what I am saying.

I want us to work together and understand and accept that we will always have differences of opinion. That doesn't mean the other side is evil.

My last post was in response to your post before this one, just a heads up.

I hear you. I'm all for judging individual actions based on their own merit, just as surely as I am for judging individuals on their merit (and character, etc.)

This is complicated. It might not seem this way, but I am not really calling for her to be punished in any way.

I'm really asking for more consistency.

Vilifying one act and making strong generalizations for groups of people over that one particular act and then ignoring, rationalizing, and even applauding a similar act from your own group is a tough pill for a guy like me to swallow.

LOL....I don't even know if that sentence makes sense.

I'm just looking for fairness and for us to move beyond sides and pointing fingers all the time. Instead, I wish that we would try to understand and at least tolerate our differences and work towards unity rather than furthering the divide.

Here's a question for you Vers: When you were a teacher, were all groups treated equally, or were some allowed to get away with more (poor performance, aggressive/appalling behavior) so as to 'not rock the boat', so to speak?

I'm actually curious to know what the administrators and fellow teachers thought and how they behaved. I've read some of your posts on the matter, and you have always been big on earning your own keep, and not having special privileges handed out based on who somebody is.

Part of the problem is that the left has taken words with very serious definitions.. fascist, racist, white supremacist.. and redefined them to mean "anybody right of me politically"

When I see them now, especially on social media, I just role my eyes because 95% of the time, they are not applied correctly, they are used as a very extreme exaggeration and, as such, they don't really mean much any more.
