Crazy to think of winning 100 games in a season, don’t think the browns have done that in 20 years

They haven't. The Browns have won 88 games in that stretch. That encompasses 18 full seasons plus the three games here in 2017. You have to go back to the 1994 season to get to 100 wins.

Sorry for being a downer.

Go Tribe. What they've done this season is amazing. If they're going to win it all, this would be the year to do it.

Just because I'm bored...

This is the third 100+ win Indians season according to this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Cleveland_Indians_seasons

1954: 111-43
1995: 100-44 (strike shortened season)
2017: 100-59 currently

Third time's the charm?

Me too.

A primer on the Tribe’s play-off probabilities and probabilities in general:

The Tribe is the “favorite” to win the 2017 World Series.

They’re given a 28% chance. (the best of all the play-off teams - LA is second at 16%)

Here’s how that is basically calculated:

The Indians are 2 out of 3 favorites to win each of the three play-off series they will have to play to win the Championship.

That’s good.

A 66.6% chance of winning each individual play-off series.

Since there’ll be 3 series the Indians will have to win, the odds of the Indians winning all three are:

66.6% * 66.6% * 66.6% = ~ 29%

Every game the Indians win, that probability goes up.

The most dangerous series for the Tribe will be the first one since there's only 5 games. And a smaller accumulation of bad bounces, calls, breaks and any team can lose. (the best team in the history of baseball could lose to the worst team in the history of baseball)

Of course Tito knows this and he's been planning for that first series for a week now.

Getting the ducks lined-up.

And he's fine tuning his personal strategy.

For instance recognizing when to pull any of the individual starting pitchers BEFORE they give up that big inning.

He's getting the best possible team and formulating the best possible strategies for the month of October.

And especially that first series.

So game 1 of the first 2017 play-off series for the Indians is this Thursday (t-minus 6 days).

The crucial 5 game divisional series.

The riskiest series to becoming world series champions.

If the Tribe survives this ALDS, their odds go up to 50/50 of winning the WS. (of winning both the AL Champ. Series and WS)

Do we already know the Tribe starters for the 5 games of this ALDS?

I would guess that the rotation has been set up as this:

Kluber
Carrasco
Bauer
Tomlin (if necessary)

yeah, Klubs, Carrasco, Bauer for sure. Tomlin is the 4th IMO as well

I would guess Salazar, backed up by Clevinger, just like the game the other night. I don't think Tomlin makes the ALDS roster.

wow really? I think Tito's proclivity for Tomlin puts him on it

I actually think that Salazar makes a lot of sense if we play the Twins. He had 3 starts this year vs the Twinkies, and went 2-0 with a 1.02 ERA, and 26 K in 17.2 IP.

Did you guys watch Salazar pitch the other night? He was dominant with a capital D. Tomlin's margin of error is so very small when he pitches ... if he leaves one over the plate, fuhgeddaboudit. You can't have that in the post season. Danny was dealing unhittable [stuff] his last outing.

Anyway, the happy thought is we're debating who our 4th starter should be. Our first 3 are very strong.

Oh, I agree about Tomlin ... I just know that Tito really likes him and trusts him

Francona: Clevinger going to bullpen "to be a weapon." Indians leaning toward 4-man rotation for ALDS.

Francona didn't name the 4th starter, but sure points to Tomlin in rotation for ALDS, if Game 4 needed. Team still weighing Salazar's role.

I LOVE Jose Ramirez!! He's a pretty talented player who plays the game "the right way." His hustle out of the box and mindset of always looking to go for two has helped us steal runs and extend leads. I hope we can keep him around for a while.

Dodgers are down 5-1 to the Rockies in the 3rd. We could be 1 game back of LA (for home field in the WS) with 2 to play after tonight. Red Sox are down 3-2 to Houston in the 7th. The Yankees won and are sneaking up on the Sox - 2 games back with 2 to go. Red Sox need to win one this weekend with Houston unless they want to play the Wild Card play-in game with the Twins, because the Yanks are on fire.

Do the Dodgers have the breaker over us though? The other problem is that I think the Rockies clinch a wildcard if they win, so they might not try to go for the sweep.

They do. We need to finish a game ahead of them.

They need to lose out, and we need to win our final 2 games for us to have home field throughout.

IN the AL, we won the season series against the Astros, 5-1, so if we are ahead or wind up tied with them, we have home field in the ALCS.

Both the Indians and Astros have better road records than home records. D'oh!

(I still think getting home field would be nice.)

If that is the case:

My take is Ervin Santana beats NYY.

Houston wins against Boston. (tough series)

Arizona wins and plays LA. (Arizona good chance against LA but LA wins)

Washington Beats Chicago. (Nat's rotation to good)

Tribe takes down Twins (easy)

Tribe beats Houston (bullpen battle goes to Cle)

Nat's beat LA

Santana pitched well at NYY last time, so I anticipate playing Minnesota too

I think I like the Yankees to beat the Twins if they start Severino. In any case, I do enjoy watching the 1 game play-in for the wild card entry. I'm glad its not us, but its great theater. The best part is whoever we face next Thursday will have burned their #1 starter in the WC game.

I think the Tribe is three outs away from home field advantage through the AL championship.

Boston 6 Houston 2 at Boston bottom of the 8th.

I'm not 100%.

Do the Indians hold home field advantage over all the AL play-off teams?

If Houston loses to Boston, Cleveland clinches No. 1 seed in the AL. Dodgers' magic number at 1 to clinch possible WS home field over CLE.

Wasn't the Tribe 3-4 against the Red Sox?

Oh wait.

It's not head-to-head?

OHHHH... As a tie-breaker.

Primary is overall record.

Kimbrel gets the last out and the Red Sox clinch the AL East. Yankees will host the Twins in the WC game Tuesday; winner of that plays CLE.

Home field addy through the ALCS! thumbsup

Kershaw pitching for the Dodgers tonight - they can clinch home field in the WS, if they get to it (which I don't think they will). Maybe we can just let Kluber get his 5-6 innings in tonight and then be good and rested for the Thurs start in the ALDS. I'd rest all the position players tomorrow unless the Dodgers lose tonight.
