I find it hard to believe that we brought Hue here to help find and groom a QB and then just completely ignored his opinion come draft time. I think the blame for missing on 2 QBs is on everyone involved.

I honestly think that a good QB and another good receiver and suddenly our team is pretty decent. Not saying SB contenders, but our defense is solid, and our running game would be much improved if we were any threat to throw the ball consistently. Right now teams want us to throw because it usually results in an INT.

I will side with this.

I do think Wentz was a joint decision after we realized we weren't getting Goff, the QB Hue coveted. And we ended up trading the pick and building the base for our team. This deal was huge for building our team.

I also do think that perhaps Hue wanted Trubisky or Mahomes over Watson. However this might be the time when the front office overruled Hue and said we are taking Garrett. Unfortunately Trubisky and Mahomes were gone by our next pick. Hue didn't want Watson and Kizer fell in our lap.

I am of the opinion that if we get an OC, he should be in charge of his offense...or what's the point?
In football, if you are an offensive HC typically you hire someone that comes from your scheme. Hue would hire someone that runs his scheme but allows him to call the plays. That's what most offensive coaches do.

Much much better. But I think you give too much credit to Hue and has his talent evalution abilities.

Can you provide proof to all these claims? I really want to see the proof that Hue wanted any of the qbs over Myles and that Hue did not want Watson.

Sashi Brown the key to Browns new management structure

Jan 5, 2016
Pat McManamon
ESPN Staff Writer

BEREA, Ohio -- The new structure for the front office of the Cleveland Browns has caused more confusion than satisfaction among fans.

That might be putting it mildly. The anger-filled rants on talk radio Monday were fervent.

That doesn't mean it won't work, but it means that the new structure is hardly being greeted with universal approval.

Owners Jimmy and Dee Haslam have set up a system reliant on the administrative skills of a vice president of football operations whose personnel experience is minimal, but who still will be responsible for personnel.

Sashi Brown, 39, is a smart, capable individual.

But he's never been a personnel guy. The team's 2015 media guide lists his duties as including "contract negotiation, government affairs, employment matters, insurance and risk management, licensing and intellectual property issues and litigation management."

On the football side, the media guide said he oversaw "management of the salary cap, negotiations of player contracts and various strategic initiatives."

There isn't much about picking players.

"He's very smart, very organized, good at systems and processes, and [is] an outstanding team player," Jimmy Haslam said. "He's also very strategic so we will use those skills, and working for him will be a GM whose primary job will be talent acquisition."

Brown has final say over the 53-man roster, the draft and the players signed and not signed in free agency. The GM will report to Brown and will focus on finding good players.

If this organization stays in tact, I don't see much change happening within the organization. If the organization stays in tact it would be an endorsement that the Haslams are on board with the plan, and the plan is working. If the organization stays in tact they will be forced to use this offseason's draft and free agency to finish building the team out. That includes acquiring a franchise QB. Putting together a legitimate receiving corps. Shoring up the O-Line, possibly needing a starting LT. Shoring up the DBs, getting another corner and a safety. And shoring up the MLB spot. If the organization stays in tact, I would expect some free agency veterans of high character to be courted, hopefully signed. Then we see where we go.

If the FO & Hue are fired, all bets are off. We start this circus merry-go-round all over again.

I missed the part where it says where he RULES WITH AN IRON FIST ...

Can u show me that part please mac ...

The THIEF messed up giving him final control ... someone has to have it ...

NO MATTER HOW WELL THEY WORK TOGETHER .. theres going to be disagreements sometimes ... ITS GOING TO HAPPEN ...

So someone has to be the ultimate decision maker ... i think the thief made a mistake giving that control to a lawyer ... i’d Rather have HUE be that guy since he has WAY MORE ACTUAL FOOTBALL EXPERIENCE ...

With that said .... NONE OF US HAVE ANY CLUE HOW IT WORKS INTERNALLY ...

- sashi could rule with an iron fist ... that’d be stupid and makes no sense ...

- the other extreme is Sashi always does what hue wants when theirs a disagreement .... highly doubt thats how it works ...

Is your closed mind capable of seeing ALL THE MIDDLE GROUND IN BETWEEN THOSE TWO EXTREMES ...

Fact is ... we have no clue and that article does squat to tell us what actually goes on ... NOW MATTER HOW INCONVENIANT it makes it for us arm chair dawgs ...

I would really hope that Sashi defers to Hue on the QB position .... but we have no clue regardless of what your article says ...

I don't know...maybe nothing, or not much rather than talk about the upgraded roster.

I am not saying he should have said the roster was garbage. Just don't make it sound like night and day.

It's already been established Hue wanted Goff and didn't want Wentz. It's been posted in another thread.

Saw this on twitter regarding the rebuild and the FO.
---

In 2 drafts, the Browns front office has spent four top-75 picks on the front seven and now they have a top-10 run defense.....

They actually rank No. 1 in fewest yds/att allowed... if you think this rebuild isn't working, you're not paying attention......

Where picks have been invested, there's dramatic improvement. It'll take another year or two to rebuild the whole roster, but it's working........

I'm fine with it.

I also don't believe who has "final control" on the 53 man roster is truly relevant. Like you said, someone has to have it. I would be willing to bet also, like you said, he doesn't rule with an iron fist and the final decisions are more of a joint effort than most realize. I believe it's that way on all 32 teams with maybe a couple teams in absentia.

I think everyone at the top of the organization has input on players and that includes Hue Jackson. In fact I might go as far as say the final ruling on a player by Sashi may not have even been used yet.

Kinda like when Depodesta was interviews about Wentz and it turns into we are the laughing stock of the NFL because Depodesta, "a baseball guy," said Wentz isn't a top 20 QB... People laugh and point, but I would bet my left arm that he was speaking on behalf of the organization.

If we get a QB this next year and they turn into the Franchise guy, does it matter?

Not being a jerk, honest question. We are focused on who we passed on and not who we drafted. We have a large number of draft picks form the last two years that are developing pretty nicely, and are contributing and showing flashes of a lot of potential.

J/c ...

I wanted to quote u lurker but didn’t ... oooops ... thanks for sharing ... with that said ... and its not negatively directed at u ... thumbsup

This is not near as bad as it looks ...

There’s some talent on this team ...

Its young and we have no QB ... Hue has to coach with that ... VERY DIFFUCULT to do ...

I’m blaming NO ONE ...

Its not as bad as it seems ... NOT EVEN CLOSE ...

I get the fact folks are disillusioned now .. this VERY HARD ...

But its not near as bad as it seems ...

If there is a change it would probably be an OC per say. Might be just a young coach not ready to call plays but has a lot to offer. He will be instrumental in game planning and the execution of the game plan. Maybe Hue still calls the play but the kid can offer a lot by being the eye in the sky.

If a seasoned OC then they would take over the O all together...the only thing I don't like about that is a new system must be learned.

With the money we have in cap space and a bevy of Impact draft picks...we finish this build up. I hope we do not blow this up again but ride it out.

In the FO I think the only change would be to hire Payton Manning as President all others would remain in the same position they had before except Sashi would lose some power and be mostly on the business end instead of personnel.

Tab, this for me, is the ideal scenario (not even just the manning thing, can be anyone imo that is qualified). But like you said we are halfway through this build, and we have a lot to work with in cap room and draft picks this next year to REALLY make a leap. Look at LA, they were awful last year, and look at them NOW.

We have made mistakes on players by passing them, but we I wouldn't say we have made MISTAKES on the guys we have drafted yet. Other years, they were bad picks and mistakes. I don't really see BAD picks, yet. Maybe not as good as other picks, maybe the wrong pick, but I don't see BAD picks...if that makes sense.

the only real criticism is Britt. But if they continue to improve like they have been on defense, and can do that next year with the offense......we might just turn this thing around.

It makes sense and I agree...my only shake my head moment is looking back at not taking Wentz. My only major disappointment. But the guys we did pick I like and they have produced. We are building something here for sure.

Improve maybe but don't tear this down.

glad we are thinking alike wink

Wentz is the real deal. I THINK and this is purely my thought, is that they were all 100% in on goff and split on wentz. I don't think they are going to draft a qb or a player that high unless the room is 100% committed. when goff was gone, they traded out. I think this happened again last year with WATSON, I don't think the entire room was sold on him, so they traded out. I do believe this year we will get a QB. I think the entire room agreed Myles was a solid pick and was a sure player, so they took him.

I have an inkling if Cousins becomes available you see all the cap room we have dwindle fast in an offer to him. If not, we will be taking a QB.

Add a new OC, a new QB, a new OT, a new RB, a new CB, a new Safety, and a couple new WR's ... Whether FA or Draft these things need addressed ... JMHO

We can't draft players worth a damn, passing on the ones.

We can't find FA's willing to do anything but take money.

I can't agree. I think we've done a pretty good job of drafting and bringing in players. We haven't hit on everyone, but no team does.

It's not even about mindset, or being grumpy we lost another game, or whatever... it's just stating the truth over the years and years of watching this team.

So why are are ranking bottom in most categories? Why are we losing? Why are other teams winning?

WHY?

Stop trying to candy coat the turd people. We're nothing short of a joke. Jets killed that entire roster and are winning. Hard to find a team to say "well, least we're not <so and so>" and etc. We're literally, whether fairy tale land wants to see, the worse product in the league and next to no signs of improvement and we've had more #1 and high round 2-3 also included selections... and we are what we are.

I'm not trying to start a fight or make fun of anyone, this is just real talk.

Quarterback play has been atrocious. That's the main reason. What do we have, 17 INT through 7 games? That's pretty much the reason why we are 0-7 and not 2-5 or 3-4.

And for some reason people will defend Hue to the death, but I don't believe he's putting us in the best position to win.

The roster isn't playoff caliber, but we are good enough to win games. In year two, despite people barking about how bad the roster is, 0-7 was not in the plans. Yes, the roster is young and largely inexperienced, but I don't think Hue is doing us any favors yet everyone keeps saying he's not a problem.

A year ago our defense was bottom 5, this year we are top 10. Is that because of talent or coaching? If your answer is talent, then the front office is doing a good job bringing us players, no? If your answer is coaching then how come the defense can play so well void of talent, but the offense can't?

We are top 10 in some very specific categories, but we are not a top 10 defense. This defense has issues that are very exploitable... as it is right now. But they have young talent that needs to develop... which is really promising for the future.

This defense isn't enough to carry the team now, but it'll get there.

There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

I'm not sure if this will make sense to anyone but me, but I think we need the iron fist to go with Hue's velvet glove. Track down someone to be the assistant-HC with a focus on discipline rather than O or D. Hue saves face (by avoiding demotion to OC.), but we get something resembling a firm hand on the rudder.

I agree and like your reasoning. And we've had many chances to do two things:

Find a QB that will make minimal talent look good

Find talent that will be a minimal QB look good

We've failed at both. People like Ogbah, Garrett, Coley (heard he got injured?) and some other kids have been good selections and the defense likely will approve, more so than we have - but we're still losing. We've hit on some people, I won't deny you that. My point is with the number of opportunities to find players to help, our trck record (with Sashi, Kokins, Farmer, it don't matter who), we should have won two SB's and have had many, MANY pro bowl selections.

A QB could be a total game change, I won't deny you that either. Who do we have that's able to identify that? Our head coach can't even figure out who plays on Sunday (as you eluded, he's not positioning us to win) hahaha. Our FO trades all the QBs to other teams, as if stock piling to pick crap players is going to help us win.

My head goes down deeper and deeper when i talk and think about this team and how poor we've been in almost every... single... category.

LMAO...........that's what thought.

Please stop making things up. There is no evidence that Hue didn't want Myles and/or Watson. Zero.

Curious what changes you would make to the offense to make it better fit our current talent...

What are we doing that we shouldn't be doing and vice versa? Because I see QBs missing wide open receivers (either they don't even see them to throw to them or they over/under throw passes so bad they either can't be caught or there is no chance for YAC).. I see receivers drop passes when they are open and have it thrown to them... I see guys committing stupid penalties to negate what progress we do make and putting us behind the chains...

I'm curious how a different offense would fix any of that.

I honestly don't see the Wr's getting open in a consistent base, what I see is our Wr's getting beaten on release, and consistently being redirected to where the D wants, namely very close to the sidelines, where its very hard for the QB to place the ball.

I also fail to see, with the possible exception of Njoku, a WR/TE that can dispute a ball and win most of the times.

The inability of our WR's makes it very hard for the Qb to believe in them in the first place, and also gives no cushion to our Wr's and no easy completions.

The BIG FAIL, IMHO, is that we have no running game, because nobody sane would expect the Browns with the current Wr's/TE's and a rookie QB to have a passing O.

We have to commit to the running game, and make all things possible to get that going, so instead of rotating Qb's I want to see us experimenting with RB's, FB's, OL and TE's
