Most likely Haslem did, IMO. There is nothing that says Brown called with everything I've read. Only that the Browns called the NFL asking for a change. Who do you think would most likely call the NFL asking for a favor? The owner maybe? The one who swooped in and tried to force the deal in the first place?
There is nothing that says Haslem tried to force that deal, either. Who do I think would most likely call the NFL? The head of football operations for the team, of course. It would be a stretch to think that the owner did. Sashi's a laughingstock in everyone's eyes at this point.

I'm glad the deal didn't go through as well but let's not make Sashi Brown into some hero. He's 1-23 as a GM and has built a team that might not beat Alabama.
I was actually perfectly happy to not watch anymore, but then in weeks 7 and 8 I happened to be places where the game was on. Might as well just save yourself the time and do this instead:
Nice read. I agree. Sashi knows he will slide in to another top paying job if he gets the axe in Cleveland.
Wanna bet. The guy is insubordinate. That is not a good quality. He is a snake in the grass and will probably never get another job in the NFL if the Haslams rightfully fire his snake ass.

I don't disagree. He did the right thing.
He doesn't need a NFL job. He will have job offers out the ying yang. That is how it works....you hold a Harvard degree, you write your ticket...he got a cush job with the Browns....right?
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.

Insubordinate? It's literally Sashi's job to determine who is and is not added to the roster. How, why and when. Regardless of how you personally feel about Garappolo and McCarron, it is Sashi's job to determine if they should be added to the roster.
If Hue Jackson and Jimmy Haslam are attempting to force Sashi and the front office to unwillingly make draft selections or trades, that's insubordination.
Sashi may not land another NFL job. But I question what quality of general manager we can add if Hue and Jimmy are overstepping their paygrade.
If your owner tells you to do something and you purposely refuse to carry out that act, you are being insubordinate.
I would never trust the guy again if I were the owner. He has to be fired.
If Jimmy Haslam is really forcing the front office to make trades, signing and draft selections, then we've got much bigger issues to worry about than insubordination. Namely having an owner with zero ability to evaluate talent who is essentially our untitled general manager. That is a horrifying thought and there is nothing acceptable about that situation.
And it still isn't insubordination. Being someone's employer does NOT mean that have to meet your every demand that exceeds their job description.
If you're right, the NFL needs to step in immediately.
And yes, we do have deeper problems because he is meddling and impatient.
However, you can't defy your boss. Come on, man.
You also can't have a FO that the coaching staff despises. You can't have a FO that leaves at 5:00. You can't have a FO that doesn't even bother to call NE about Jimmy G before the trading deadline when your HC is in love w/the guy. You can't have a guy like Sashi cutting guys like Haden and Greco to save money. You can't have a guy like Sashi choosing Britt over Pryor or alienating guys like Mack, Scwartz, Gipson, etc.
And this is speculation, but I am pretty confident in this:
Hue and the coaching staff knew that Sashi was going to throw them under the bus and that he would ask the Haslams to sacrifice them due to the team's bad record.
I believe the coaching staff got upset because they didn't think that Sashi provided them enough talent to compete and that he would blame them for the record.
I believe that Sashi wasn't listening to the coaching staff in terms of who to acquire.
I believe that Sashi can tell the Haslams to give him time because he has so many future picks and he should not be judged by the team's current record, but when push comes to shove, that Hue is responsible for the team not winning.
I believe that Sashi should be fired.
These are just my opinions [Memphis and Dep] and I am NOT insulting any poster who disagrees w/my opinions.

We're talking about A.J McCarron here. If we're going to go the ol' talent route, giving up 2nd and 3rd round picks for him isn't a good place to start.

I'm not just talking about the trade. 24 draft picks and Sashi has nothing to show for it. If Sashi would have done a better done drafting, we would not been in this mess over the trades this week.

Almost as horrifying as having a lawyer, with zero ability to evaluate talent, building our roster.
It's supposed to be hard! If it wasn't hard, everyone would do it. The hard... is what makes it great!
It scares me that Hue demanded McCarron. I am glad some screwed up the deal...be it on purpose. That's even better actually. It means someone was thinking clearly.
Yeah, I agree. It was too much to give up for another weak QB.

Yeah, this week has proven that the FO and coaching staff need to go.

"Nothing to show for it" is an unfair criticism. We have plenty of young talent who are continually showing improvement as they find their feet in the league, and some non-drafted players who are showing themselves to be fantastic additions to this team.
After a year and a half, we've already gone from the 32nd defense in the league to top 15 in most categories, and a top 5 run defense unit.
The offense has been a little slower out the gate, but our offensive line is already dramatically better. I would argue that inexperience at quarterback has been our biggest issue.
Sashi does have zero ability to evaluate talent. That's why he's literally got an entire staff of talent evaluators at his disposal to assist him with that. Evidently, he listens, which is more than we can say about Jimmy.
Weird. I never thought I'd ever have to defend that Jimmy Haslam forcing moves is a bad thing. I'm stunned that's getting defended like it's a great thing.
Yeah, this week has proven that the FO and coaching staff need to go.
Sadly, I agree. I can defend imperfect drafting and free agency signings. I can defend a coach struggling to get a young team playing at a consistent, winning level. What I can't defend is the utter dysfunction coming from both sides. They are children with no professionalism and clearly no ability to communicate with one another.
I'm looking forward to the next coaching/FO search with Jimmy Haslam: "Candidly, I'd like to hire you. Just ignore it that I force trades, draft selections and signings every time I damn well please, and ignore my history with perpetually firing everyone after asking them to tear down the roster and start again. That was just the last two. I'm pretty sure I'll be different this time. Candidly."
And yes, we do have deeper problems because he is meddling and impatient.

Dude needs to go!
The FO didn't leave at 5. Greco isn't good anymore. Haden is decent, but not $11 million decent. Mack was long gone mentally before Sashi took over. We made the highest offers for Schwartz and Pryor. Britt (terrible signing) was signed after Pryor was off the table. No one seems to know what happened with Garoppolo, but several have reported we had zero chance to trade for him.
Is it too early to wonder if we've reached that point in the season where we stop complaining about having not won any games yet, and instead start complaining that any wins we might get screw us out of a higher Draft pick?

Cleveland has a battle between the front office and Hue Jackson
Hue Jackson wanted Jimmy Garoppolo. The Browns didn’t go and get him even though they had the assets. Hue Jackson maybe kind of sort of wanted DeShaun Watson. The Browns didn’t draft him. Then this happened at the trade deadline when the Browns were apparently trying to get A.J. McCarron:
Aaron Goldhammer ✔ @HammerNation19 Grossi says that apparently the Browns were celebrating their trade and forgot to call in the deal before the deadline... 2:06 PM - Oct 31, 2017 531 531 Replies 5,500 5,500 Retweets 8,491 8,491 likes Twitter Ads info and privacy Adam Schefter ✔ @AdamSchefter NFL rejected Browns request to overturn AJ McCarron trade. Even though Browns’ notification of trade arrived moments too late, NFL said no. 2:26 PM - Oct 31, 2017 295 295 Replies 992 992 Retweets 2,106 2,106 likes Twitter Ads info and privacy The fact that news even got out is crazy. It was leaked by someone. Someone wants to make it look like the Browns front office is incompetent. This has to come from inside the building.
Simply put, there’s a power struggle going on in Cleveland. Hue Jackson doesn’t trust the front office. It’s pretty obvious. There’s no reason for Mike Silver to report Jackson wanted Garoppolo otherwise. Silver and Jackson have a great relationship and have for some time. It’s pretty easy to connect the dots and say that Jackson is trying to throw the front office under the bus.
That’s a good way to get fired and maybe Jackson wants that. His time at the Browns hasn’t been great. He’s 1-24. There’s a perfect landing spot for Jackson if he wants one, and it’s further south from Cleveland in the same state. Jackson was set to be Marvin Lewis’ replacement once Lewis retired, but he ended up going to Cleveland. Lewis doesn’t have a contract beyond this year. Cincinnati players still respect Jackson. Maybe Jackson wants to be fired so he can go to Cincinnati where he was expected to be Lewis’ replacement in the first place. The only way to do that is to burn everything to the ground. He needs to create issues with the front office. Leaking that the Browns wanted Garoppolo is an easy way to do so. Pointing out the Browns couldn’t get a trade in on time only makes it worse.
The other option would be a them or me scenario. Maybe Jackson wins the power struggle and gets to send Sashi Brown and Paul Depodesta out to pasture. Giving Jackson complete control of the roster would be a huge risk since he hasn’t won anything ever. He didn’t do well in Oakland. He hasn’t done well in Cleveland. Maybe he’s just a great offensive coordinator a la Norv Turner. But missing a trade because they can’t file things correctly is complete and utter incompetence. It’s a reason for firing. Heads should roll now.
How do we know Garoppolo didn't tell the FO forget it I'm not signing with the Browns? I'm a life long Browns fan, until death do we part, but I wouldn't blame him if he did. In fact I'd probably do exactly that. There's a price to be paid for decades of incompetence.

oh I am sure Jimmy G told his agent that. I'm just throwing this up as I have not heard this version yet is all.

It is widely thought Bill didn't want JG to play in the AFC.
The trade also brought Bill the back-up he wanted...Hoyer...so the trade was a bit more then simply for a 2nd rounder.

On the flip side, Schefter thinks Belichick had no interest in sending Garoppolo to the Browns, a team that has a lengthy track record of failure when it comes to quarterbacks, as well as one that fired Belichick during his first stint as an NFL head coach.
"Do you think he trusted to send this guy to Cleveland? To the place that basically has cycled through quarterbacks the way that we cycle through plastic bottles? No way," Schefter said. "Do you think he's going to send him to a city that once fired him and banished him? No way. So, again, it wasn't like he said, 'Okay, Cleveland, forget them.' But in the back of his mind, it's just one other reinforcement to 'He's not going there. I'm sending him to a place I know will do right by Jimmy Garoppolo.'"
Take your pick as to reasons Belichick did not want to sent JG to the Browns...lack of trust in Browns FO, still holding grudge for firing, doing what is JG's best interest...
...what the name "The Cleveland Browns" represents, has become so TOXIC, that some teams would rather NOT deal with our front office and the last place players want to be traded to is the Browns.

So, Mac - are you agreeing that there was no way that JG was going to be traded here? Essentially that he was unavailable to us...
When the debate is lost, slander becomes the tool of the losers...Socrates
But..did our front office even attempt to make the deal for Garoppolo or were they asleep, not even knowing that JG was on the trading block again?
The information floating around the web is merely speculation speculation after the deal was done. I'm not upset about JG going to SF..I'm upset that our front office didn't appear to have a clue that the deal might be happening and that they didn't have the forethought to check.
To me, the front office's lack of knowledge of the trade and lack of interest in improving the QB position, as the trading deadline neared, sends the message that the front office has "no worries or concerns" about the QB situation they handed to their headcoach. Also, there seems to be no concern from the FO with the 1-23 record.
If the front office is trying to "LOSE OUT" a second year in a row to improve their draft position, someone needs to tell Hue and the coaching staff.
I appreciate the alternate approach of the author, and I can see some rationale in what he is saying...but the bottom line is that Sashi Brown's "rationality" has lost us a bunch of talent, which is the primary reason we are 1-23. We are markedly worse.
The other fact to consider is that he is an attorney who has had no experience as a talent evaluator, or deciding which personnel should/shouldn't be a part of a team before last year. In that same vein, maybe Peen and I should run the personnel side of the Browns.
