when the season began I thought we might be able to compete in 2018 ... now I don't see that as a possibility. It sucks, but it's the reality.
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."

Such a class guy. Incredible record being set every snap. This guy is a metric for NFL quality. Hope he does retire as a Brown. He will know, I suspect. Hats off to the great one!

Joe Thomas’ Snaps Streak: Five Things to Know Joe Thomas, in this day and age, is absurd. The streak of consecutive snaps played by the franchise left tackle for Cleveland is now 10,062. It’s comical to suggest that any position player has ever played every snap of every game in a decade or more. Your shoe splits and you have to come out for a snap. You get a busted facemask that has to be fixed. You get stepped on. Something. Not Joe Thomas. Five things about the streak you should know: 1. No one acknowledged it Sunday in Baltimore when Thomas played his 10,000th straight snap. It happened on a nine-yard Isaiah Crowell run … to the right side, on the fourth offensive play of the game. “We were in the middle of the game,” Thomas told me afterward. “It was just a regular play, like so many others. Not like you ignore it, but no one really says anything. It wasn’t till later in the game that a couple of guys on the Ravens said something. Eric Weddle, C.J. Mosley, they both congratulated me on the field.” 2. He’s played through a grade-two LCL tear, three MCL strains, and two high ankle sprains. “In 2012, I got the LCL tear mid-game in the last game of the year, and I was able to hobble through it. If it wasn’t the last game, I might have missed some time.” 3. The streak came closest to ending on Oct. 12, 2014. Near the end of a rare blowout win over Pittsburgh, the Browns were subbing in backups to rest vets. Earlier in the game, center Alex Mack broke his leg, so there was more motivation to keep everyone else on the line healthy. “Yeah, the famous Vinston Painter incident,” Thomas said, laughing, on Sunday. “I was not hurt, but they sent Vinston in to replace me. I think they were just paranoid after Alex Mack got hurt. But Vinston got out there, and I wasn’t leaving.” By that time (Thomas began to realize the rarity of playing every snap of every game in 2012 or 2013) Thomas knew he was doing something gre 4. The ethos. “How did it happen? To be honest, I never set out to do it. It just sort of happened. It’s ingrained in you as a young athlete: ‘Get up! Play the next play!’ It’s the job. You know, obviously, the losing hurts. I’m human. But something I’ve found comfort in is, Just do your job. I’ve got people in my family who get up and go to work every day and they don’t complain. Regardless of the record, I get to play a kids’ game. I am blessed to do what I love to do so much.” 5. What does it mean? Thomas tries to not overthink this. “I just hope it means I’m a regular guy who gets up every morning and goes to work, and plays as hard as he can, and is a good teammate. I hope that’s what they say about me.” https://www.si.com/nfl/2017/09/18/joe-thomas-cleveland-browns-nfl-snaps-plays-streak

Joe and lebraon on the same basketball field ... what hasn't this guy done =)
I love Joe T. He is that rare person who is a role model and hero to a younger generation that you know is safe for your kids to idolize. I wish the Browns could reward him with at least one playoff win before he leaves the Browns. I have that ominous feeling that when the streak ends so will his career. We gotta get him the wins man!

I think you missed my small attempt at humor, but yeah, it would have been cool to see both those guys playing on the same court.

Haden in all Browns gear might've been the weirdest thing, which is kind of weird itself with some of the other guys on there.
Must've been recorded a couple weeks ago? If not, interesting statement (like Cribbs and Greco).

I'd retire and get my 5 years in and go the HOF. Nothing is happening here soon.
Congrats to a great pro! Except that doesn't pay millions like playing the game you love a few more years does... I bet he becomes a coach or a popular sports media commentator because who wouldn't want to hear what Joe has to say.

I think that is his true passion in life. He probably will pop up from time to time on TV and Radio to speak Football both Browns and Badgers.

He is well spoken and can be pretty funny at times too, so there are several things he could do. I see him wanting to coach football myself.

He does little "segments" and let's then on the internet (for fun?). Seems like he wants to be in a booth or on the sideline.
He'd be awesome.

I think he'll take some role on TV over coaching, but what I do know is that I hope to see him on TV playing for the Browns in a Super Bowl someday.

LT – Joe Thomas, Cleveland Browns PFF Grade: 87.3 Elite Stat: On 190 pass blocking snaps, Thomas has yet to allow a sack, the most snaps of any tackle without an allowed sack this season. Joe Thomas hit a milestone of 10,000 consecutive snaps played since entering the league over the first month of the season. If you count plays that were nullified by penalty he exceeded that some time ago, but despite all that mileage he remains the standard by which all left tackles are measured. Thomas has allowed just six total pressures across four games so far. Second Team LT – Jason Peters, Philadelphia Eagles (86.4) Honorable Mention – Andrew Whitworth, Los Angeles Rams (83.6), Taylor Lewan, Tennessee Titans (83.9 https://www.profootballfocus.com/news/pro-nfl-2017-first-quarter-all-pro/

Trade Joe Thomas by the end of this week to a team worthy. I think the trade deadline is almost near. Let this star and professional play for a team that's worth going into work and etc. Worth looking people in the eyes and etc.
Sashi can continue to stock pile those picks too. We'll get worse than what we already are (yeah, it's possible) but at least the thought of some class act like Joe will enjoy the last years of his career and we can continue to cut off the remaining limbs of this team at the expense of the success of other teams and stock piling picks that won't amount to crap anyway.

He doesn't want to go. Joe wants to finish his career in Cleveland. He's expressed that every year for the last few years. Same thing happened last year: "So when I first got here my goal and my mission is kind of always to make the playoffs and to help be part of turning the Browns into a consistent winner and kind of turning the franchise's fortunes around. We haven't done that yet, so to me that means that my mission is not yet complete here." "It feels good to be loved, I'm hoping that they stick to their word on that (Regarding Hue Jackson emphatically stating Joe Thomas will not be traded). Obviously I really want to be here. It's important for me to be part of the turnaround."

Yeah, but Joe has got to see there's no turnaround happening here. Probably one of the biggest fiasco he's seen after the many we've had. After the first time he's won two games back to back, his entire career as a losing Brown will be long forgotten.
I love Joe with as much a man can move another man and not be fruity about it, but enough is enough. Do what's best for him.

I think at this stage, it wouldn't mean as much to Joe if he went and won somewhere else. It just seems to be the kind of guy he is. The integrity involved with sticking it out, giving it his all and retiring a one-team man, in an era in which there are very few of them, seems right up his alley. I genuinely think Joe would sooner lose with the Browns than win with another team: On the off chance we somehow manage to turn it around before he retires, he'd roll that dice any day.
Of course, there are other huge factors, too. Joe has been in Cleveland for a decade now. It's home, it's where he's raised his family, I'm sure where most of his friends are, too. He's such a down-to-earth kind of guy that I think he'd really be disinterested in having to relocate his family.
I think even when Joe retires, he'll be like some of our other legends who bleed orange and brown, and will remain in Cleveland.
If Joe asked for a trade, for sure. Do it. Or release him. But as long as he says he wants to stay, I'd hope we would do everything possible to ensure he remains a Brown.

During yesterday's game, the announcers talked about how Joe said that he can't wait until the trade deadline passes and that he wants to remain in Cleveland.
He's a loyal dude.

Never questioned his loyalty, but do what's best for him. Keeping him on this roster is NOT what's best for a star athlete and stand up man. Do you think Alex thinks about his Cleveland career, like, at all, after seeing a winning environment?
I bet Haden has already forgot ALL his time here too being on a team that can win.

A guy whom I really feel will make a good coach someday is Josh McCown. A decent QB who really knows the position and could grow into a HC job. We really could have used him this year to mentor our young QB's.

I didn't know that and glad you mentioned it. Josh got a lot of grief on this board and let's face it he's no Brady or Rodgers but for a guy to stick around all these years as a back up and occasional starter he must have some value. He's a player I have respect for.

http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/21288182/joe-thomas-cleveland-browns-gets-new-deal-big-raiseThe Cleveland Browns amended the contract of stalwart offensive tackle Joe Thomas this week, making him the highest-paid offensive lineman in the NFL in 2018, according to league sources. The deal includes $3 million in new money over 2017 and 2018, including a $1.5 million roster bonus paid this past week, plus a raise of $1.5 million for 2018 of his base salary, which will now be $10.3 million. Factoring in his base salary and bonuses, Thomas is now scheduled to take home $13.5 million in cash in 2018, the highest figure for any NFL offensive lineman. Thomas, a Pro Bowler in all 10 of his NFL seasons, was recently placed on injured reserve after a triceps injury ended his streak of 10,363 straight snaps played to begin his career. While it's unclear what prompted the raise for Thomas, he's long been regarded as one of the NFL's best and most consistent players.
