Not much of a big deal here but in NY? Gotta be a big deal there. 210 consecutive starts comes to an end. Second only to Brett Favre's 297. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000...ning-vs-raidersAROUND THE NFL NEXT > < PREVIOUS 180 Published: Nov. 28, 2017 at 03:29 p.m. Updated: Nov. 28, 2017 at 06:07 p.m. Giants to start Geno Smith over Eli Manning vs. Raiders Kevin Patra Around the NFL writer Print The New York Giants will take the field without Eli Manning starting under center for the first time since 2004. The team announced Tuesday that Geno Smith will start at quarterback Sunday in Oakland versus the Raiders. Coach Ben McAdoo said rookie Davis Webb will also play, if not in Week 13, then some point before the end of the season. "Geno will start this week," McAdoo said, via the team's official website. "Over the last five games, we will take a look at Geno, and we will also give Davis an opportunity." The switch ends Manning's streak of 210 consecutive regular-season starts, the second-longest streak by a QB in NFL history, behind Brett Favre (297). With the 2-9 Giants desiring to test-drive their backups in a lost season, Manning respectfully bowed out. "Coach McAdoo told me I could continue to start while Geno and Davis are given an opportunity to play," Manning said. "My feeling is that if you are going to play the other guys, play them. Starting just to keep the streak going and knowing you won't finish the game and have a chance to win it is pointless to me, and it tarnishes the streak. Like I always have, I will be ready to play if and when I am needed. I will help Geno and Davis prepare to play as well as they possibly can." The question is whether Manning has taken his final snaps for the team he helped lead to two Super Bowl championships. With possible changes to the coaching staff and front office coming at the end of the year, that query likely won't be answered until the offseason. McAdoo told reporters Tuesday that "this is not the end of Eli in New York," and Manning will be active Sunday to back up Smith. "This has nothing to do with my future," McAdoo said. "It's what's best for the organization moving forward." When asked if this was the hardest day he's had with the Giants, Manning told reporters "it's up there." "It's hard," Manning said "It's been a hard day to handle this." In the meantime, the Giants will give Smith his first start since Week 7, 2016 with the Jets. The bigger evaluation for Big Blue will be of Webb, who has yet to take an NFL snap. If the Giants head into 2018 ready to revamp their quarterback room, they need to rule out the third-round pick being the possible solution. "This is not a statement about anything other than we are 2-9, and we have to do what is best for the organization moving forward, and that means evaluating every position," general manager Jerry Reese said. "I told Eli this morning that an organization could not ask for any more in a franchise quarterback. He has been that and more. Nobody knows what the future holds, but right now, this is what we think is best for the franchise."

Weird that they go to Geno Smith and not Davis Webb.
I wish they would just cut him and he could go play for a team like Jacksonville. That would make the league a whole lot more fun.

They are just trying to do it the 'right' way by putting Geno out there first to save face. Webb will be on the field in no time.

IMO, just cut him ... or at least offer him that opportunity behind closed doors. How cool would it be to see him with JAX for a playoff run
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."

Honestly, if they let Eli go, I think we should pick him up and let Kizer watch an accomplished QB for a while.
WE DON'T NEED A QB BEFORE WE GET A LINE THAT CAN PROTECT HIM my two cents...

What a crappy move the the Giants. I just watched Eli's interview and he was fighting back tears. He handled it w/class and refused to start the games just to keep the streak going.
I really am sick of some people blasting players for not being loyal. LOL.......what a crock. Manning is a two-time Super Bowl MVP and has been durable as can be. He has handled himself w/class and the Giants just publicly humiliated him.

I'm surprised the Giants hierarchy allowed this to happen with what has to be a lame duck coach. Their season is a foregone conclusion; they owe Eli a graceful exit, IMO. This should have been an off-season move.

I think McAdoo is a crappy coach who has alienated his team.
Hey, maybe the anti-Hue guys will lobby for him after they get Hue fired. How appropriate would that be.

They want to see what they have in Smith and give Webb some reps ... This season’s toast ... its the smart thing to do ... Stinks it happenend to Eli ... CLASS CLASS ACT ... He’s not the same QB he was 3 years ... his decline was rapid ... For those thinking he goes to Jax or even us and plays right away ... .... This isn’t RB or WR where u can learn a few plays and go right in .. u have to KNOW MUCH MORE OF THE PLAYBOOK and also what the others are suppose to do and how they line up .... Only reason JG is starting in Frisco this week is because of the injury to Beathard ... u don’t go learn enough of the O in 2 or 3 weeks to go play QB in the NFL ... And yes I know how complicated Shanny’s O is compared to most ... but u just don’t pick up a qb and play them right away .. I also know we’ve done it before ... because we had NO OTHER CHOICE ...

KC's OL is pretty bad. A couple of injuries and Fisher is trash at LT.
Besides that, Reid gets too cute [LOL] and abandons the run game too quickly [LOL]

The funny thing is, Eli Manning isn't playing that bad. Got great, but not bad. Certainly not enough that I would move to Geno Smith.
Eli needs a team around him, and they just don't have it.

If the Gianta want to see what they have in Geno Smith, they could ask anyone who has ever watched him play. He's terrible. When Beckgam went out they were screwed... plus maybe Eli is suddenly washing up... It happens.

A move made by an entire regime that is about to be fired.
Depending on what the new regime wants, I'd expect Manning to end up in Jax should the new regime release him or trade him.

Is now also a good time to mention the Giants were really, really interested in Hue Jackson but we swooped in and signed him first? Because I feel like now is a really good time to mention that. “Jimmy and Dee Haslam [are why I never made it to New Jersey],” Jackson told reporters on Wednesday. “I feel very comfortable about my time here and I think I’m in the right place. Regardless of what the record says, I really feel comfortable where I am.
“Even knowing that New York would be a tremendous opportunity and the Mara family and everything that was going there. I just felt comfortable being in this division. I know it, I’ve been through it and I’m still very excited about the opportunity here and I think we’re going to get it to where it needs to be.” http://giantswire.usatoday.com/2016/11/2...ants-interview/

Eli's career is waning and they are in a completely lost season and currently sitting with the 3rd pick in the upcoming draft.
I think they are looking at the rookie while also ensuring they go no lower than that 3rd pick. If San Fran wins one, the Giants might move up to the 2nd pick.
Browns is the Browns

If anything I'm betting the owners want to see the other QBs before they make a decision on Eli (and they don't want Eli to get hurt).

Eli would be smart to sign with the Browns, if we're honest. He'd be loved by default. We have a good OL, plenty of picks to put some weapons around him, and we've just got a few pieces to add before our D is legit.
He'll only be 37. Think we can put a team around him within three years, during which time our current roster will be in the prime of their careers?
It'll never happen, but he'd be smart to do it.

J-Ville is HOPEFULLY us in 2 years RIGHT NOW ... but he don’t have to wait 2 or 3 years and HOPE we make good picks ... its sitting there for him right now ... Denvers ready to win now ...

I think its obvious that the Giants see an opportunity to suck the last 5 games to obtain a QB in the 2018 draft.
Gino Smith = Kizer
Meanwhile our game vs. the Jets a few years ago at NJ Gino played like a freaking HOF QB...smh
Manning still has 2 years on his contract. 22mil and 23 mil cap hit 6mil each year accounting for the Signing Bonus. I think they have Manning play one more year to groom the new QB that they will pick...possibly they will try to trade Manning next year?
Not a classy thing by the Giants...they have never really given Manning an OL year after year he stands in that pocket and gets pummelled, maybe one of the most durable QBs I've seen.

I will admit I was not a fan of Eli when he came into the league, because I do not like it when a player refuses to play for the team who drafted him. Not supposed to be how it works. Never cared for Kobe for the same reason. But over the years my take on Eli has changed. And he is handling this kick to the nads very well.

I think you can blame the drafting thing on his parents, not Eli.
It was still wrong, IMO.

Webb is a 3rd round pick and just like Kessler he was not expected to become that Franchise QB it was something they hope he could develop into one or at least a back up.
They are committing to taking a QB with their 1st round pick next year...Webb is not the answer and of course we have not seen him in practice but I can just PRESUME That is close to ASSume without the ASS...Presume that he just is not developing enough for them to put him on the field.
I think they want to get a conclusive idea on Gino so that they can consider trading Eli.
You don't always have to play a QB to know where he stands...us fans need to see them play cause we don't get to see them in practice. I think the Giants know who Webb, isn't.
Gino is the guy to get to know cause he could be a key in their plans Next season not so key in being the Franchise QB but if they have to hold onto Manning or trade him.
