I don't know where I read it because I dismissed it when I did read it, but there was a rumor that he would be traded to Cincinnati. That rumor is starting to hold a little more water.
Nothing but idle, BS speculation by folks with too much time on their hands and jobs designed to promote controversy, IMO.
Hue Jackson to Bengals trade rumors gaining steamCould a trade be in the works between Cincinnati and Cleveland after all?
Josh Edwards
Hue Jackson is 1-27 as the head coach of the Cleveland Browns since taking over last season. The record has led to many publicly speculating about his future.
Most considered that he would either be retained or fired. A third option is gaining steam, however. Trade.
During an appearance on NFL Network, Michael Silver speculated that Jackson, a close personal friend, "could end up coaching elsewhere next season."
The statement piggybacks off some previous comments made by analysts.
On Tuesday, via CBS Cleveland, Sirius XM NFL's Ross Tucker joined Ken Carman and Anthony Lima of 92.3 The Fan to discuss the possibility. First, he acknowledged that head coach Marvin Lewis is done with the Cincinnati Bengals.
"Maybe the Browns can trade Hue Jackson to Cincinnati. Marvin Lewis is done. I think he knows that. I'm not convinced that [the Bengals] would want Hue Jackson as their head coach. Maybe, but that would tend to surprise me," Tucker said.
CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora joined Baskin and Phelps and shared that he would be surprised if a trade happened. He would not be surprised if Jackson returns to Cincinnati in some capacity.
"I don't see Mike Brown trading for a coach especially a coach who could potentially be 1-31. Could he be back there as a head coach or an offensive coordinator? It would not surprise me at all. I've been hearing that since August. That would be one of the least surprising machinations if that's how that turned out."
Jackson served as a wide receiver coach with the Bengals from 2004-2006. He coached a variety of roles in a second stint with the franchise from 2012-2015.
The New York Jets traded Bill Belichick to the New England Patriots in 2000. The Oakland Raiders traded Jon Gruden to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2002. The Jets traded Herm Edwards to the Kansas City Chiefs in 2006. The Green Bay Packers traded Mike Holmgren to the Seattle Seahawks in 1999. The Patriots traded Bill Parcells to the Jets in 1997.
